Agree. This seems to be an exercise in "look at me and what I can do!"

I am not a fan of these projects or renderings dreamed up by graphic designers with too much time and websites with space to fill.
I enjoy seeing people make things, and even if I don't find it appealing I still enjoy seeing what people are capable of making. Similarly I also enjoy cool Hackintoshes.

I remember frequenting the Apple Fritter website back in the day.

Like the notch in phones, only "iconic" until Apple does away with it. Then "our" collective opinions seem to flip right with Apple making each change.
Every Macrumors commenter at the 2021 iMac reveal: Boo! The chin! WTF??
Every Macrumors commenter at reveal of chinless mod: Chin for the Win! Bring back the chin!
Personally, I would prefer this version by far

Honest question, if could be found for near or below the same price, why wouldn’t anybody choose a separate monitor and Mac mini over an iMac?

So... on the iMac the chin is "iconic" and it would look "generic" without it..

The $1600 Studio Display has no chin.
Have I missed the comments about it looking "generic"?

Everyone's saying they love the chin now, but if Apple end up updating the iMac to remove the chin, they'll be the first one to say the chin-less design is so much better.
Some people will, others will not even if they buy the chinless iMac.

We already know what a chinless iMac looks like because the Studio Display exists.

The number one thing that apple needs to learn about displays in 2023 is that they have to be bigger. Stop with the 24 and 27 inch displays. Everyone in the PC industry has figured out that that’s too small. I would not even look at a single display that is smaller than 32 inches.

I can’t. The computer could have been 1cm thicker instead of a useless chin. This computer is thinner than apple’s pro XDR monitor
I know people like to discount this, but in my experience users really like using the bottom of a screen to place important reminder sticky notes on.

I’m not saying that’s a “feature” that Apple even considered with the chin (the chin likely plays a role in the assembly process) but it’s neither “useless” nor something regular people give one solid damn about.

Apple should never get rid of the chin, and I don’t think they ever will.
The first comment to that tweet makes sense.
also heat from the board goes straight to the display, reducing its life cycle.
My 24" iMac runs very cool but doesn't have the cpu close to the display at all via the chin. The chin has your air intake and exhaust openings for the two small fans. The back of the 24" iMac becomes an extended heat sink to bleed off heat. It's why looking at CPU temps, the temps drop so fast after doing processor intensive tasks. Having a design like this tweet, actually makes it it thermally inferior IMHO in spite of it trying to imitate an older iMac.

2002's iMac G4, which had equal bezels around the display, was cited as an inspiration for the modification.
Screw a chinless iMac and the current design, bring back the iMac G4 design, just replace the plastic with aluminum.

The Mac Studio could probably fit nicely in the iMac G4 dome.

That's not smart, that is actually not good for the lifespan of the display.

At this point, apple can just throw the processing unit the charging brick and call it a day.
Fan and heat distribution will be fine just like the macmini deals with power+processing in one package.

Did you see the video? They actually modified it, it's not just a 3D concept.
I did, you realize apple controls their own designs and manufacturing right? This would never have been an apple product.

I've said they should put all the computer bits in the base of the stand, and have it run up from there. Make the base a bit thicker and stick the power brick in there. Only drawback is for people using a VESA mount, but how many actually do?

They kept the chin for branding—it looks like a Mac instead of a generic display—and to show off the colors. This isn't complicated.

Technicians in China have developed an arduous modification to eliminate the 24-inch iMac's "chin," achieving an all-screen design.

Io Technology, a group that makes hardware and chip-related modification and repair videos, posted a video that reveals some of the engineering behind the striking iMac modification on Chinese video sharing website Bilibili. It garnered attention on Twitter after being reposted by users like "DuanRui."

2002's iMac G4, which had equal bezels around the display, was cited as an inspiration for the modification. While moving most of the iMac's internal components to the stand like the G4 was initially considered, placing them directly behind the bottom edge of the display was the method eventually chosen to reduce the device's front profile, while retaining most of its thin design.

First, the iMac was disassembled and the display's "chin" area was cut off, with the edges being ground into the same shape as the top. A new rear casing with an enlarged area for the logic board and ports was created digitally and 3D printed for testing, before being machined out of aluminum and anodized. The iMac's components were then placed into the new housing, with some added measures to mitigate increased thermal constraints.

Along with the new casing, a backlit Apple logo made out of laser cut acrylic was added, reminiscent of older MacBook models. Io Technology also created a Space Gray version of the modified 24-inch iMac with black bezels around the display.

An all-screen iMac design was widely rumored in the run-up to the announcement of the 24-inch iMac in April last year. When the device was finally announced with white bezels and a prominent "chin," some users criticized the design. Nevertheless, it seems likely that the consistent thickness of the iMac and placement of its processor below the screen prevents heat from the chip being directly transferred to the display, which could shorten its life, as well as provides a more suitable place for the power cord.

So radical... And so ugly.

Yes? What has that to do with this being a third-party modification as a "what if" scenario? No one said Apple actually considered this design.

These Chinese haven't yet realized that this is a computer and not just a monitor. Legit like the chin better honestly. Apple combines thin elegance with technical necessity and shows how flat you can build silent computers that do not have directly visible ventilation slots. My high praise to Apple.
In a design school, these Chinese would have failed, and I'm glad America and Apple has excellent designers.
