Read some of the predictable, yet sobering, complaints about flipswap.com, and that will send you straight to Best Buy Trade In...(At least it would for me, even though I have used the Best Buy trade in option before).

Thanks, will do. I think I'd actually prefer Best Buy as they're well known and thus I'd trust them more. I do wonder though if they'd be able to let me offload the original iPhone since I'd like for it to be recycled and if I can get extra credit for it, that'd be great even though I don't expect to get much. It'd be something at least.

- Had a look at their trade-in calculator, think this definitely will be the route I'm going with once I can get the original iPhone working since it'll make even the 32 GB version possible with any luck. If not, at least the 16 GB will do so yippee!

I'm not a fan of craigslist anymore. On the news every week there are people being robbed at gunpoint for their iPhones.

If I did a transaction it would be inside a starbucks or someplace with camera's and tons of people.

I meet people at police stations or banks etc. dishonest people tend to avoid these places. I never meet them at my house or theirs. 3GS 32 GB still easily gets $500

yeah, I've heard about things like that happening, that's why I bring my gun with me, and if I can, a friend with a gun too whenever I go out to meet people from craigslist.

I just set up a trade in for my 1st gen iPhone with Best Buy...I haven't used it since late 2008, when I got the 3G.

I'm getting 80 bucks on a gift card. Not bad!

Radio shack deal

I have 2 3Gs iPhones in excellent condition. Why would Radio Shack give
$200 credit when they will be selling the 3Gs for $99?

I plan on upgrading to 2 new iPhone 4 phones.

Probably to drum up business and get a buzz going.

They have been bypassed by the Frys and the Best Buys of the world...

$99?? What about the 2 year contract you have to sign up for? Do you still think you are only paying $99?

Best Buy offered me credit of $322 for my 3GS. I may go for it. ;)

Eh. I can do 2x better when I unlock this wait for the new firmare to kill it then give it a few weeks till every one is paying threw the roof for an unlocked 3gs the sell on cl and sell it at starbucks so I don't get raped and murrderd

This begs the question, is Radio Shack now getting into the used iPhone business? Or are they merely wholesaling them back to Apple or ATT for refurbishing?

My God, do you keep diamond-tipped caltrops in your pocket?

Also, Best Buy seemed like an awesome idea until I realized that you have to have bought the phone from them to begin with; they require a receipt. So, I can exchange at Radio Shack for $248. Was hoping not to have to pay anything. Hrm.

No, you don't have to have bought your iPhone at Best Buy.

Read the site a bit closer. The ONLY time that it is required that you have bought the iPhone at Best Buy is if you are doing an in-store trade-in.

I bought my iPhone 1st gen and 3G at the Apple Store, and ATT Store, respectively.

I have already made arrangements to ship via UPS my 1st gen to Best Buy Trade In for an $80 gift card in exchange.

They just want to get you into the store in the hope that you will like it and shop there in the future.

regular customers who dont know anything about selling on Craigslist or eBay will hop on this easily

you can also trade iPod, cameras or any other electronics u dont use for gift cards at Radio Shack

eBay and PayPal will rape you in fees, then you have that buyer who will file a claim

Here is my quote from the other rs iphone4 thread...

RadioShack store manager here and i have some very interesting information if you guys don't already know this. Please quote this as much as possible to get the word out.

We offer a trade in program. We offer the most money on a trade in on the iPhones. As of 9:42pm on 6/8/10 these are the values...

These prices are taken off instantly from what you purchase(no mail in rebates) or applied to a gift card instantly. Your choice.
3Gs 32Gb - $271
3Gs 16Gb - $210
3G 16Gb - $149
3G 8Gb - $118
The older models are on the website as well, look for yourself...
http://radioshack.cexchange.com/onl...=sU4reD6QJWP5MQn1SwFn38CtURe9PcXAJv9fUpYciv8=

That means if you are eligible for the $199 price and trade in your 16gb 3Gs, we will instantly (no mail in rebates) take $210 off the $199 for the iPhone 4 and you will have a $10 balance either applied on a gift card, to the taxes, or towards an accessory, whatever you prefer.

Intrigued yet? Now follow me here...
Not sure if this will be the same policy on the iPhone 4, but the way its set up right now: The day you do an upgrade to any phone, you are immediately eligible for an "Early iPhone Upgrade". That means ATT tacks on a $200 early upgrade fee.

If you are currently not eligible for an upgrade, but eligible for an "Early iPhone Upgrade" (You will be, you always are, again even if you did an upgrade 5 minutes ago.) Now, that $199 iPhone 4 becomes $399. You can trade in your current model towards that $399 price.

Trade in a 16Gb 3Gs and the $399 Early upgrade on the iPhone 4 is now $189. If you need to, take a sec and read this again so you fully understand.

This is 100% accurate except there has been no announcement made for the "Early iPhone Upgrade" continuing on the iPhone 4. I very strongly believe it will. Also, the trade in values may drop a tad when the iPhone 4 launches, but look at the current prices we give on 3G's and original iPhones, it is still very good. You are not gonna get "eBay money" but you get a respectable amount and it is all taken care of instantly in the store. SPREAD THE WORD!!

Here is my quote from the other rs iphone4 thread...

So a mint 1 day old iPhone 32GB 3GS (lets say I get it replaced via Applecare) with brand new headphones , lightly used synced cable, charger, all inserts booklets and stickers as well as box will fetch the same as a damaged vanilla iPhone w/ nothing?

Just curious.

Tried two different trade-in options for my iPhone 16GB 3GS in excellent condition with cables and original packaging :

Gazelle
http://www.gazelle.com/
Quoted me $226, emailed me a FedEx Ground Airbill and offered to send me a shipping box free of charge as well. Once they receive package and inspect it payment takes about a week. They will mail you a check or deposit into your PayPal account.

Best Buy Trade-in Center
http://www.bestbuytradein.com/bb/
Quoted me $269 Best Buy Gift Card or $175 check.

Best Buy offers two options:
Instore Trade-in: You print out a Customer Item Tag and bring that to the Geek Squad Precinct counter to pickup Best Buy Gift Card immediately or they can email you check with 7 days.
Online Trade-in: They email you a prepaid airbill, you ship to them and they mail you check or Gift Card in 14 days.

I chose Best Buy Instore Trade-in, that way I can walk in on the 24th, pick up my $269 Gift Card then purchase my reserved iPhone4 without any downtime between phones.

I am going to rinse and repeat what I did last year. Buy new iPhone resell old one on craigslist. Profit.

I've sold a bunch of stuff on CL and only had an issue once because i was dumb. Learbed my lesson and never had any problems. Meet in a public place, tell them you'll do the exchange inside. If they aren't cool with that they can piss off.

Last year when i put my 3G up on CL with a cracked screen I had close too a hundred offers to buy it. So no worries bout getting rid of it.

You know I wish I knew the answer to that.

I have no idea where these come from.. honest to god.

Here is my quote from the other rs iphone4 thread...

Wait wait wait... so you're saying that even though I am eligible to upgrade and get a phone for $199... it will still cost me $399? Your post confuses the heck out of me.

They just want to get you into the store in the hope that you will like it and shop there in the future.

Yes I am aware of the reasoning. My question was more about what will they be doing with these traded in phones.
