So I checked the best buy trade in website last night and it offered me $293 for my 3gs 16GB. I checked again today and now they're only offering $263...

No, you don't have to have bought your iPhone at Best Buy.

Read the site a bit closer. The ONLY time that it is required that you have bought the iPhone at Best Buy is if you are doing an in-store trade-in.

I bought my iPhone 1st gen and 3G at the Apple Store, and ATT Store, respectively.

I have already made arrangements to ship via UPS my 1st gen to Best Buy Trade In for an $80 gift card in exchange.

Yeah, I misread, sorry.

So the question is...do I really want to go two weeks without my iPhone when they haven't even announced for sure whether Best Buy is going to have the new model at launch?

can they handle FAN accounts? i was planning to upgrade my wife's 3G to 4. i might have to do it with my 3GS now as well

If so, I may drop my FAN to get that there, then throw the FAN back on. That's a good deal.

BL.

I was wondering how FAN would work this year. I'm assuming it will work the same as last year, meaning if you have a FAN account you have to upgrade at an att store?

Just sharing my Radio Shack pre-order experience from today

I have about 3 or 4 Radio Shack stores near my home and office, so I thought I'd call them today and see what they knew about their pre-orders. Two of them didn't really know anything. I told a co-worker he could get an excellent trade-in credit for his existing iPhones, so I decided to go ahead and check with a third store. They immediately said they can take a $50 deposit to pre-order them, and they'd be happy to go ahead and do it now.

I grabbed my co-worker and we went down there to place our pre-orders. He was able to order his new one, and they said they would give him $275 (I think) for his 32GB 3GS when he trades it in. He even set up a pre-order for our boss by simply giving them her $50.

For myself, I am a new AT&T customer and need a family plan, so they pre-qualified me just to make sure I could get two phones, so when I agreed to the deposit I'll have to pay, they went ahead and took my $100 and I was out the door. They said basically they get an assortment of phones instead of asking us now precisely which size and color in advance. It worried me a little, but they said they'd call me as soon as they got them and make sure I get the ones I want.

I'm just glad that's out of the way and I'll be assured of getting my two phones on the 24th (if not slightly before, if they get them early and decide to call me to come on in, which they sorta hinted they might).

I am sure that them "releasing" the pre-orders before the 24th would be some sort of violation of the agreement that Radio Shack made with Apple. Might not want to advertise that around, if I were you.

Just my 2 cents...

I also called my local radio shack and they told me they would buy my 16gb 3g (not 3gs) back for $149 with or without any of the original accessories with it (headphone, usb, etc.). They weren't 100% sure on the pre-order date, but thought it would be the 15th, same day as everywhere else.

here is a nother question. When selling your old phone, Craigslist, Trade-in, or anywhere, should I remove the SIM card from it and trash that or if I wipe the phone clean, does it also wipe my sim card so there is no safetyy concerns about my personal info?

bestbuytradein.com :)

fixed

I purchased my iPhone 3G 16GB at Best Buy and will be going the Radio Shack route. They offered more for my iPhone than BB and will be going to my local RS store tomorrow to do the pre-ordering. I was able to put my name down over the phone but have to come in to complete the pre-order in person.
