I think the iPhone will fit right in since over the years they have tried to push a cellphone on me every time I was paying for my purchases. I think they sell more cell phones than anything else there. Now they can start pushing iPhones too.

Radio Shack needs to go out of business. Selling the iPhone will simply keep them in business which is EXACTLY WHAT WE DON'T WANT.

They tried to charge me $78 in-store for a battery that I got for $6 online.

As if Apple doesn't overcharge for their accessories and adapters.

I used to love Radio Shack. Piles of random electrical parts, seemed like you could build anything.

Now it's all cell phones and radio controlled cars. With one tiny little section of parts.

Boo Radio Shack.

I didn't know so many people hate RadioShack.

I haven't been there in a few years but the last time I did go they didn't even have a simple RCA female to female audio adapter. That was ridiculous.

Come to think of it, I don't even know were a RadioShack is around me.

haha i used to love radioshack whenever i went to the US... it is now a bit dissapointing how awful it is

I don't mind the iPhone being sold anywhere... I just don't like Radio Shack. I think they were ok 15 years ago, but now they just suck. Their stuff is so over-priced and the knowledge base of the average salesman is grossly inaccurate. --not all of em, but most.

I worked at Radio Shack for about 3 weeks in college. When they hired me they told me I'd earn minimum wage plus commission. I got excited every time I sold something, imagining my paycheck ticking up slightly. Then I got my first paycheck, and it was minimum wage. That's when I found out it was minimum wage OR commission, whichever is higher. I would have had to have sold truckloads of merchandise daily to break even with minimum wage.

I guess it's different now. There are bonuses for selling cell phones and such. But what hasn't changed is the attitude that the customer is stupid and is grist for exploitation.

You know

If Radi -- uh, The Shack really wanted to stay in business, they would start selling all the equipment to take your home "green". Solar panels, Industrial batteries, wind turbines, water turbines, anything anyone would need.

Radio Shack

First of all I hate Radio Shack. I can care less if they get the iphone. They make crap and usually sell crap, they won't get my business.

There used to be a "pact" between the employees and the tinkerers... when you see people walking over to that area, you leave them alone. Don't try to sell them anything or hassle them. They are there for a very specific purpose and know what they are doing, so don't piss them off.

We wouldn't even ask them all the BS questions about their phone numbers or service plans at checkout. We'd just exchange money for goods and let them go.

That seems to be diminishing. More and more when I go to pick up some parts , I get hassled, and get hassled some more during checkout.

Radio Shack will now be handling the wireless phone service sections for all Target stores, so it looks like the iPhone may head to the big red bullseye, as well.

the iPhone is going to be everywhere, and soon.

There are two Radio Shacks

To answer what a lot you expect, there are two types of Radio Shack stores. The crappy ones run by franchise holders and the ones owned by corporate that very good, have trained sales crew and is more interested than pushing extended warranties.

My guess is that this is a dry run to get the Verizon phones out to other retailers. I keep on wondering when we will see iPhones being sold with pre-paid plans. I heard that Virgin has wanted to sell the iPhone for over a year now.

im sorry but everybody here is an idiot. The more places the iphone is offered, the better market penetration Apple has. The iPhone isnt like the Mac that its all premium and omg needs to look like this and that to be sold.

Its a mass market product. Just like how the iPod is sold every time, the iPhone is the same as well. Otherwise, in a few years, the Android is going to destroy the market share of the iPhone because it is sold everywhere in every phone.

Actually having it in places that either don't support it well, don't know how to sell the product, etc can be a horrible decision on the retail end....absolutely horrible. Remember the days of Apple products in Best Buy and Circuit City, and Comp USA when none of those places either sold them well or cared about them at all?? That almost killed Apple. When done right it would be a great thing- but as others have said Radio Shack has yet to do anything right in the last 30 years!!!

Also- Walmart does such a crappy job locally here of selling the iPods- they had a huge display with one fake nano on display, and lots of empty slots. They had a hand made sign which said they carry other ipods- just ask. Tell me how that is helping Apple at all!!!!

Yeah, if we don't hassle you, our bosses hassle us. Once my boss is gone for the day, all I do is help the customer for what they came for. I could care less about selling cell phones, the company can choke for all I care.

The reason why the associates can be so relentless in their selling is because if we aren't, we get fired. If you ever want to see the worst of radishack's micromanaging ways, meet my district manager Gene Gross. They pay us minimum wage to work our asses off. It sucks, but I guess that's retail for ya.

Big difference is Apple's stuff is quality. Radio Shack stuff belongs in the shack out back!

It is true- they are a radio controlled car, phone store....not much else worth while- OUrs is always out of stock of older technology I need to locate- not that I expect them to carry everything, but they need a niche....some sort of niche...not just random overpriced tech crap.

The business secret to Radio Shack . . . location, location, location. While they have some mall sites, the majority of retail locations are in lower rent commercial space . . . which helped them survive the economic downturn rather nicely without having to close as many stores. So, having them sell your product is a good thing.

granted lower rent is helpful in economic downturns, however lower rent areas are bad when the economy turns upwars- location, location, location is THE most important thing to a business. You can have a great product or store, but if you have the wrong location you are most often of luck.

I work at Radio Shack in the DFW area and CFreymarc makes a good point and possibly the best point. The store I work at is corporate owned and not trashy and low maintance. We don't "all" concentrate on pushing a buyer but were also no different than a wallmart or best buy, we assume the sell and do our job. The new name The Shack is very stupid even in my opinion. Other than that the stories some of you guys are saying is idiotic, not everyone working at a radio shack is ignorant, alot of us do know alot about the electronic world. Those who go to stores and notice associates not knowing what they're talking about is most likely that there manager is not doing a good job hiring, or that the district manager doesn't take his job serious. Our group of stores in our district does it's job and were ready and we will be ready to sell the iPhone. Radio shack isn't going anywhere anytime soon, I promise that. It may not be what you want to hear but it's the truth.
