Yes because IF I WAS I WANTED TO GO OUT AND BUY AN IPHONE I'M GONNA GO TO THE SHACK!!! NOT!!!

what a joke.. The company just needs to go out of business already because they only offer junk. They have terrible terrible terrible customer service, and half the time they don't have anything your looking for or need. Just a waste of space. I really don't hope they don't think that offering the iphone is going to be what keeps the company going..

kids, please, show some respect. Radio Shack may be a piece of **** now, but back in the day it was really the only place to get component parts, and the employees were ex military ham operators who really knew their stuff. Plus, even today, its the only retail shop where you can still get odd adapters and cables, often a life saver for musicians.

And where would we be today without Tandy and Texas Instruments?

How is Radio Shack not dead yet? Even the iPhone can't save them, I smell a last ditch effort to stay relevant.

The Shack is on the comeback. You'll be hearing more about them next year when they start their deal as title sponsor for Lance Armstrong's cycling team.

Maybe they'll hook Lance up w/ an iPhone. :D

Could someone please tell me the difference of buying an iPhone from radioshack as opposed to the Apple store?

I'm not calling anyone a fanboy, but a lot of you are showing your true fanboy colors. It's entertaining and sad all at the same time.

I don't think I've ever seen so much smugness in my life. geeze people.

What next, you want people to take a test to determine their socio-economic status before purchasing an iPhone?

Why does anyone care where they can buy an iPhone:confused:? Many of you all need to get rid of your "hate" attitude. Radio Shack may not be the Radio Shack of old but they still carry some very good products. I agree that many of the employees are not educated about their products or electronics in general. I used to buy almost all of my parts from them but they don't carry a lot of parts anymore. I can still get cable adaptors, hard to find batteries, etc. You can still buy the best public use scanners (made by GRE and on par with Uniden) from them unless you want to pay 5 to 10 thousand dollars for a commercial grade scanner. A big boon to Radio Shack is the new Team Radio Shack led by Lance Armstrong. I hope they will sell the Team Radio Shack kit. That may bring a lot of business into the stores. Oh well, Guys, please play nice:)

I agree! We have two scanners that we bought there. The woman who sold them to us was actually very knowledgeable and unfortunately, that store was one they closed.

There still are things that Radio Shack is known for and I hope they will always be around.

As a former employee of a Lafayette Radio in Santa Clara, CA "back in the day" I beg to differ. ;)

We had more employees from National Semi, HP, Zilog and other valley tech employers stopping at our store than the nearby "Shack" to do their homespun breadboard and wire wrap projects. Radio Shack was more interested in selling K40 CB gear back then, while we had up to date Sam's and Motorola Cookbooks. The biz went under when consumer products became the bread and butter. :D

Apple stores have "Fashion" street cred. It's why some people want to pay more for, and be seen in fancy designer labeled clothes, often during the time that these can only be purchased in fanciest high-end boutiques.

The move to wallyworld and RS signals that Apple thinks the current iPhone product line has already milked the fashion market, the type of people who have to travel to 5th Avenue or Rodeo Drive to shop, and is looking for a wider revenue base.

Sorry, if any CEO made those kinds of comments, the board should fire him immediately. Those kind of comments cannot help a company grow. Maybe Steve Jobs should take over Radio Shack, hmmm:D. And yes, Amateur Radio is alive and well. Not like during it's heyday but we still draw thousands of people to our Hamfests from several states. It's a great hobby where you actually learn something (even state of the art electronics) instead of spending hours in front of a computer playing mindless games. Sorry, my soapbox regarding the dumbing down of America.

Ok. That doesn't answer my question. The iPhone will ALWAYS have an Apple on it showing that it is made by Apple. Just because you buy the phone at RadioShack, doesn't mean it's going to say "RadioShack" on it. It still shows that you make enough money to buy one, even if you buy it at RadioShack. I bought my MacBook Pro on NewEgg, does that mean I can't get fashion credit or whatever the hell people who care call it? Damn!

It doesn't matter where you buy it, but it's amazing how many people find the experience 10x better by buying it at an apple store and showing off.

What's Next?

I used to get CB radio stuff there. The TRS 80 computer was a Tandy (Radio Shack) product. MC

Saw my first computer at RadioShack - a TRS-80, replete with plenty of nerds clustering around it; its operating system was called TRS-DOS (pronounced 'triss doss'); those were the days!

Now that the 'Shack will be selling the iPhone, why not get back into the computer biz with the iMac, or even the 8-core Mac Pro for that matter?

Haha I doubt the desktop lines ever being sold at any RS. They are all about notebooks and netbooks now, apparently.

I don't dislike Radio Shack but I don't love them either.

Back in the 70s they had a battery-of-the-month club, maybe they still do. Free batteries! (At the time it was pretty cool if you were a kid.) And they gave away the first 3-cell flashlights I ever saw.

And then they had the TRS-80. Worthless but cool anyway. It was always packed but I never saw anyone buy anything. Like now. I have three Shacks on my way to work and it's an 11 minute drive. Whenever I go inside they are empty or just have one person inside buying a $0.50 plug.

I have NO IDEA how they stay in business.

My first cell phone came from them... it was a rebranded Nokia. About $80 less than Nokia. I also bought a shortwave radio from them more than a decade ago, It was a rebranded Sangen for $60 less than brand name.

To me they seem like Sears in the 70s. They sold the Atari 2600 as their own product. Lame but everyone had one!

This is pointless, radio shack is going out of business soon.

Yeah....I doubt it..

If they were to go out of business, beleive me they would of by now but there not and won't be for a while, so your post was a tad pointless.

You're wrong. RS is doing fine, really. If they weren't, they would be closing stores across the nation but instead they launched a new advertising campaign which probably costs them billions. How 'bout you bring back some information proving RS's coming downfall before you make anymore bs claims.

Again, I'm not defending RS but these fanboy claims just get on my nerves...

Radio Shack's equipment used to all be made by Panasonic and other top names at the time. Smart people knew that RS was a place to buy good gear at cheaper prices.

And long before there were such things as Best Buy or other electronic megastores, Radio Shacks were among the first places where you could buy personal computers. They were an important part of home computer history.

I do miss the old competing Lafayette stores... they always had more electronic parts.

Humorous sidenote: In the US Army back in the early 70s, there was little money budgeted for batteries for field gear training. Many stateside military units made sure that everyone had a Battery Of The Month Club card, and they'd all go down once a month and procur batteries so they could run their radios.

Radio Shack is it selling the iphone 3G and 3GS in the usvi, as a matter of fact they just started last week..there are only two radio shack in st thomas usvi and there are both selling the iphone...im not sure about radio shack in the states but here in the U.S Virgin Islands there and tomorrow im going there to take a vid and some pics of it :apple:
