Well, the next update will shush some people up

This is turning into a Spam thread and the creators are reminding me of David Watanabe.

Im purely insulted. Watanbe is out to make money, thats it. He makes good applications but gives you bad support and over charges for those apps. I am not looking to make money, and i am not spamming. We are looking for feedback, not purchases

I understand you're not associated with forgottonsoft therefore I can't say much about that. Members of MR have pretty much given them what you asked and the developer has taken this all to heart.
If it's constructive criticism forgottonsoft want, they've certainly got it.

I am associated with forgottensoft/Radon by the fact that im a beta tester. Yes i agree things have got alittle out of hand and yes its been taken to heart and maybe shouldn't have been. But unfortunately because Radon is still in beta there's been alot of negative feedback, and like others have stated maybe we should have waited abit longer to ask people to try it.But Radon needs feedback so forgottensoft was/is in a catch 22 situation

Ok, so, we're supposed to ignore the missing features because it's in beta, and only focus on what is there?

Well, what is there to comment on? The WebKit engine?

dpaankla: Has merely backed up my point.

Thanks, I've just removed Radon from 7 machines I asked people to test, congratulations.

So if it's feedback you want, why are you being such a stubborn git about it?
You asked for feedback. You got it. You don't like it so you try to argue.

I'm sure people can see where I'm going here..

forgottensoft, for god sake please learn to use multi quote.

I'm about to spend the next 5-10 minutes going through this mess merging all your double posts. edit: now I look at it, a lot are guilty of this. Please use multi quote and edit functions.

This thread also doesn't need you and whoever else (neil321, applefan69) is apparently involved to announce updates and defend everything twice over.

I want feedback on the application, not on my moral character. I care what people think about the application, that is why I take time to read and reply to these threads. Its when people get rude and start insulting me and neil that I get defensive. I really dont mined if you dont like Radon, or you can not use it. But, do something to help us and nicely tell us what we could do to resolve it, not saying "Use, hated it, unistalled it" or say things like "If every person that made a browser in IB posted a thread about it, then MacRumors would be full of Spam.
I a a new developer trying to get a good browser going. It may have started out a little over simple, but it is developing nicely. I have heard positive and negative, but he only place that I have been personally insulted is by the people on this thread. We all have a common interest, and that does not include being unfriendly. I am not saying that every person on here that has disliked Radon is unfriendly, im just saying that some people have been.

I do not insult any of your work, so do not do it to me. Im a fragile soul :D

If you want us to stop mocking the lack of features like tabs and bookmarks, can you explain what it is, exactly, you want us to test?

I have to agree. All I can figure so far is that RADON is a wrapper around the Webkit engine.

Hello all,
Need a new batch of a few people for the next Private Beta of Radon. I will need about a week of your time with about 4-5 correspondents about features. Radon has made some improvements and I need all the feedback I can get. Email me at logan@forgottensoft.com if your interested. I particularly wanted all the critics on here.
Alls you need is Leopard and a little bit of time.

Thanks
Logan Cooke

^ i will gladly try the new beta :). email sent.

here are my opinions on version 1.5.1 in Mac OS X 10.5.3. may seem too 'harsh', but these are the genuine thoughts from a Safari lover.

the goods

- toolbar icons look good. almost like the Firefox 2 icons which seemed to be popular.
- seems to be quick. but not as snappy as Safari and Firefox from general browsing.
- browser didnt crash for me in general browsing. only crashed once when i clicked "Don't Save" when it asked me to save.
- browser window seems very 'slim' especially with the borderless window.

observations

UI
- no loading feedback like a progress bar in Safari or spiny wheel in Firefox. some users will like a status bar too.
- there should be a view menu with customize and hide toolbar in it like Safari.
- about window font is hard to read (pixelated).
- the preferences window should have native UI and have the new indented preferences icons (Leopard).
- the red font for "Browser restart is needed" in advanced preferences is too "bright" and hard to read. may look better in the native preferences UI.
- browser window thinks its a document. the dot in close button should appear when writing into text boxes and disappear when finished writing. and the window should look like this when trying to close the browser with unfinished writing.

toolbar
- too many icons in the customise toolbar window. choose and stick to one icon set.
- whats the need for the computer icon? it doesnt seem to do anything, i removed it straight away and same for the customise icon as this can be accessed thru the toolbar menu or by right clicking the toolbar.
- only the URL bar and the icons to the right get smaller when "use small size" is ticked.
- the google search field size cannot be made larger and too small in the first place.
- url field size should increase when browser window size increases
- back button has a white square around it when pressed, while the forward button does not.

tectanium is a good idea, kind of like web applications in Safari 4. but i feel users dont want a seperate browser to browse YouTube, they just want to use the main browser like they use for everything else! i feel it makes things more complicated and cluttered.

downloads dont work for me in the main browser. opened krypton and the file seemed to be downloading but never did. krypton should open as soon as an item is downloaded like the download managers in Safari and Firefox. also download preferences should be in the main preferences.

bugs
- my university website doesnt work quite right. should load to the login page straight away and it refreshes a few times by itself a few times after already loading when inputting my username and password.

feature requests
- tabs
- bookmarks
- favicons in the URL bar and in the History menu.
- no need for Tectinium, integrate Krypton into Radon more and put the download preferences into the main prefereces window.

Hey Rich,
almost all the things you bring up are valid problems and most of them have been fixed already. Krypton has been scraped for a built in downloader that is more traditional. It is small but its fast. Browser UI has been overhauled with many of the changes you mentioned. Techtanium is in the air at the moment and the icon sets have been narrowed down to one. Include with the next release will be a theming application to change the icons in Radon or use youe own custom icons. Progress bar has been added, Google search and URl bar are auto resizing as well as being resizable by the user.Ill have to look into the refresh problem as it seems to be a bug that needs to be fixed. javascript has also been improved for faster scrolling. Save nag is gone. Bookmarks are soon coming but Tabs are not a feature that we feel works with the style of Radon. Favicons are being worked for near future, so stay tuned.

As a new developer, you should take some basic advice. Don't overhype your programs, claims like smokes safari, having sped up webkit, javascript etc are a bit questionable when you're just wrapping some code around webkit. The krypton downloader was simply Apple's Downloader example code renamed and you use Sparkle for program updates, (you really should credit them). Apple already provides the source to a faster simpler browser in the developers tools, it's called MiniBrowser, I'm sure you've seen it.

A quick Google shows that you've posted Radon to almost every Mac program download site and most of those don't even mention beta, just wild claims of "revolutionary" and "fastest browser".

If you really are just doing it to learn then you shouldn't be posting it to MacUpdate, Versiontracker and in the Mac Applications forum, it belongs in the programming forum.
