I agree. I bought my phone partly because of the looks. Dont get those who put it in a bullet proof case to make it look like my old nokia.

I have a leather slip case to keep it safe in my pocket with keys but thats it. Day to day usage I get to feel its hard metal goodness in my hands.

So tell us, do you have AppleCare+?

I did not buy any Applecare protection.

So it looks like I can still buy Applecare+ protection and then an additional $79 to get it replaced, is that correct?

Battlescars...
Does it still work?

Still works perfectly fine.

You won't be able to purchase Applecare+. You have to buy it with the phone or take phone in for inspection, and they'll deny the purchase because it has pre-existing damage.

This couldve been avoided had you put on a case :)
Nope. Not really. Some cases perhaps (otter box), but not all. It's a truck vs a phone. It did rather well in the end, frankly. But just having a case doesn't mean it wouldn't suffer some damage.
They usually don't with AppleCare unless the functionality is affected. They won't replace it to make it look pretty.

That's PROBLY your best bet though with AppleCare.
AppleCare+. It's important to have the + there because Apple Care doesn't cover mistakes.
But you're destroying your new iPhone.

No he's not. Not having a case doesn't destroy anything.

Well I was just joking about the case.

I don't think any case will protect a phone from being ran over.

I would pony up the cash and get it replaced regardless of whether it works fine right now, and that's because you have small pointy dents in the back of it, pointing inside. I would be concerned that one of those dents could, over time, eventually puncture the battery. When LiON batteries get punctured, it's bad news....basically, they catch on fire. I wouldn't want to take the risk that eventually your phone catches on fire while you carry it, and it melts your leg or some other such fun.

I dont have AppleCare either. If it gets damaged to the point of uselessness I would look at the house insurance.

AC+ doesnt cover cosmetic damage. If the unit works, its not covered. So you would need to crack the screen or take it for a swim. Or if your American just shoot it, everyone over there has a gun right?

I shot my 360 after it RROD. Felt pretty good

Your best bet is to see if you can get the $229 replacement. Since it's already damaged they wont' sell AppleCare+. However, since it's still functional (pretty amazing considering it was run over by a truck) they might not accept it unless it stops working.

OTOH, the post above about the battery may be valid. Since there could be damage that you can't see, you might be able to purchase a replacement device. They'll send your old one back to the factory and it will come back as someone else's warranty replacement after it gets all fixed up with a new case and battery.

The Apple case is next to impossible to take off (and it's easy to damage it in the process - do this over a SOFT surface), and it covers the back entirely. Maybe that's a cheaper option for now.

I have a Space Gray 64GB iPhone 5S and had an accidental damage incident this past weekend.

As I was getting out of my truck, it slipped out of my lap and on to the gravel driveway. When it was time to leave, I got back in my truck and backed up. Unknowingly, my iPhone was being ran over.

The back side of the iPhone was down on the gravel and the glass part was ran over. It made contact with my T/A KOs.

The front glass suffered no scratchs, marks, cracks, or anything.

Will Apple replace this?

Put it in a case. :)

Cases cause more destruction than not using one. Cases trap in moisture and dirt. Sometimes the damage is permanent. I have NEVER used a case and all my iPhones look mint after a year.

I've always used cases and my phones look mint after a year.

No clue how Apple will handle it, but DAMN, that's impressive that the front glass was totally unaffected!

Good luck, OP!!

Ditto this. And permanent damage caused by cases trapping dirt in? Take it off and clean it once in a while! :) That's an unstated benefit of being a total casewhore--none of my cases are on long enough to trap anything and cause damage.

Ah. You had me a little concerned about your logic. Sorry I missed the joke. It's Monday, I think. ;)

Cases only hurt phones when people put them in the case and don't take it out for a year. If you regularly remove your phone and wipe it and the case down its rare for the right case to cause damage. At least a quality case.

I had my iPhone 4 for almost three years in a variety of different cases and I took it out yesterday and my boyfriend thought for a second it was my new phone because it was in such good condition.

You can't expect to never clean the phone/ case and allow dirt to build up and it not affect the phone aesthetically.

You're within 30 days, so you can get AppleCare+ over the phone by having them run a diagnostic test over the internet. Not 100% honest, but within the rules as your phone is still fully functional. (Just cosmetic damage, and they don't cover that anyway).

With your track record, I'd do that and then just live with the damage you've done until you actually break it, then get it replaced. It's gonna happen at some point.

Shooting isn't covered.

And what do you mean if you're American? I guess were all just toting guns around waiting to shoot what makes us mad.

Pretty sure you need to take it in for the visual inspection before they will sell it to you... This may not work.

It's next to impossible to remove the iPhone 5s case that Apple sells. It has a very tight grip on the phone. It's easy to see how it can get scratched or how the phone might suddenly pop out while removing it. I recommend removing it over a bed or a soft carpeted surface.

I have this vague recollection that we got AppleCare+ for my son's 4S over the phone. I don't remember us having to show the phone to anyone, but my memory might be faulty. If you're calling from the phone, that would be an indication that it's working, so they might just let it go at that.

What I'd do, if you're able to get AppleCare+ at this point, is just case the thing (if you don't like seeing the damage; the case will hide the damage, obviously), and then wait until you have glass damage, or you drop it in the loo or whatever...

The leather case complements the 5S quite nicely, I think.

I don't think that's how it's going to work. They *might* let you do it... I've heard of that happening.... BUT be fully prepared to get socked with the "Out of warranty replacement fee" which I believe has jumped from it's old price...it's now $229.

So if you're lucky, they'll charge you $100 (for AC+) + $80 for your "accidental damage" = $180. If you're unlucky, you will be charged $230 for an out of warranty replacement.

Honestly, I can't believe you carry your phone without a case and have zero warranty/insurance. As a sympathetic human being, I sure hope you get off paying $180. As a repeat AppleCare+ buyer who "plays by the rules", I hope they charge you $229 for the OOW replacement.

How to get AppleCare+
Add it to your shopping cart during the checkout process when you purchase your new iPhone.
Buy it within 30 days of your iPhone purchase. Your iPhone purchase date is the date we ship and charge you for your order:
At an Apple Retail Store (requires inspection of your iPhone and proof of purchase)
By calling (800) 275-2273 (requires you to run a remote diagnostic and provide proof of purchase)

Thanks for not asking if you could claim that it came new, out of the box with this damage.:p
