I love the Mac Pro's internal design A LOT. As well as any Dell XPS, but the one that will forever capture my heart is the HP Blackbird 002.

It's the only tower in the word that makes me convinced that the Windows PC will be far superior to anything Apple can create hardware wise....

I got bored with waiting for the site to load. Is that the HP with all the scribbles on the sides?

and people claim apple macs are expensive!! You can drop $4000 on something you can get for $3000 from apple and still have to pay $150 shipping!

Did you mean to write "hardware wise"?

Or did you mean "giant preposterous footwise"?

Thanks ;)

I'm not sure if mine is the exception to the rule or not but on my 2008 2.8 Octo when i open the dvd flap manually i can see the standard dvd drive which is just your generic dvd drive. It has an eject button on the lower right hand side and I can also see that little hole where you stick the paperclip if the tray gets stuck.

I've gone home for the weekend so can't check it myself but couldn't you use that button to open the tray, you know without you having to rip it open manually?

It works under Boot Camp for me. Never had an issue.

Good, so people are just making stuff up then. If it works in Boot Camp and VMWare I can guess that it would work on Parrallels, unless the app is just going against the grain.

Yeah, HP's site is terrible in every respect. I can't stand looking for anything on their basic lineup, staring at the site gives me a headache. I do believe it is the one with the scribbles on the side. Or the swooshy stuff that I see lazy web designers putting in their sites. And it clearly  appeals to the gamers I guess.

Oh, don't forget the height and weight of the beast. I would hate to see the box for it. I saw the review for it on CNET and the thing makes the MacPro look like a mini tower for girls. The sad part, is that the hardware inside of it does too, and I'd still pick one up for the RAW POWER of it all.

Anyways,
I must say I am, and have always been satisfied with Apple Computer products and services. My Macpro is by far one of the best machines I have EVER owned. The inside is clean, it's funny actually, I build custom PC's on the side for a few extra bucks, and well, every time I put one together I TRY and make it as clean and perfect as Macs always are. But like I said, TRY. Their laptops are ...sexual to say the least. Always thin and beautiful. My G3 I picked up back in 1999 is still humming away, I remember picking it up and un-boxing it...I could not believe how the side just folded down, giving quick access to the internals. How many times I wished all PC cases had this feature as I always seem to get caught on sharp edges working inside machines.

Now about the whole optical drive eject thing,... Whatever. It's not a big deal to me. I know; 1. How to right click, 2. How to manually eject, and 3. How to use a Mac.

Lastly, everyones always saying how Apples can't play games or have poor graphics card support in their machines. Yes, they do. There's a reason for that. Well... Mac Mini, iMac, Macbook, Macbook Pro, Macpro... Hmmm I didn't think their was a MacGame... did you? If my Macpro could play all the newest titles on max settings... I'd be **** out of luck cause nothing "Pro" would ever get done.

The End.

If it has a button, I don't see why not - providing it is possible to open the aluminium cover that hides that generic drive. I must say, I opened the DVD tray on my first Mac Pro I was playing with at my local John Lewis store the other day and was completely shocked to see some dirty dark grey drive spew out of the front!

Not quite sure what I was expecting, all I know is that I wasn't expecting that tray!!! It just wasn't Apple-esque enough for me! Also, the hard drive tray's didn't slide out very smoothly. Grinding/scratching metal didn't sound too nice.

However, the rest of the internals were mighty fine. All appeared clear and very well engineered.

Nope. Apple and OS X are smart. Press the F12 key and you get Dashboard. Press and HOLD the F12 key and you get a disc eject.

AND... if you aren't using an Apple Keyboard in OS X and have Leopard, the eject icon shows up on the menu bar. At least it does on the iMac.

Oh, teh noes... where do I find the DVD drive on this!

Hehe, even Dell does it ;). It's actually a pretty cool mechanism. I used to use one of these at my former job as a Hackintosh to edit video. I suppose with this one you can argue that the magic button is still on the case and not on the keyboard, but the drive is still equally "hidden."

I've seen worse out of techs though to be honest.

Getting back to the DVD button theme...

Is it OK to push the tray to make the drive close?

I noticed when I was in Vista that there's a menu
option for eject but, oddly, no similar option for close.

Yep. Feel free to push the tray... been doing it for years... never had an issue :)

Well i just got got round to trying out my own advice and i can say that it doesn't work. The button is two low to be pressed as it's hidden by part of the Mac Pro's case but there is a button there....

To be honest, I miss the days where I could just tap the eject button and the drive would pop out... I'm not a big fan of this delay tray.
