Apologies guys my post should have been 13" not 12"

It for me was the only downside to the 12" with that said.
That's amazeballs considering the 12" MB doesn't have a TB3 port......

- Documentation? 'Cause I really don't think so.

There's no chance a 12" MacBook works with any ThunderBolt enclosure.

With Windows, why not?

Edit: sorry I thought it was the 13"

im hoping that there is no EFI or Bios restriction that prevent even the bootcamp from connecting to Core..

Anyone have any experience with these guys: (https://bizon-tech.com/us/bizonbox3_design)? Looks like it might be a good alternative to the Razer Core.

Looks like the popularity of eGPU's are gaining some traction due to the introduction of TB3. It would be nice if Apple would allow more support within Mac OS.

On Bizon landing page for this TB3 box, there's no Late 2016 MacBook Pro in any photos yet they claim full plug-n-play. The port layout in the rear looks identical to AKiTiO Thunder3 and Thunderbolt 3 dev kit. - http://www.inxtron.com/products/thunderbolt3-hdk

There appears to be no restriction. It is working under bootcamp Win10.

I have no experience myself, but have only heard BAD things.
Apparently, they sell rebadged akitio @ over double the price.
In this case $649 vs $299 for the same product.

Ah. I'll steer clear of them then. I'm sure there will be a flood of eGPUs at CES this year anyways. The more options the better. Right now the Razer seems like the best option though. It would be nice to have something that works in Mac OS natively.

Whoa...Thats fast.. You used the 2016 Macbook Pro, correct? I heard the 13 inch versions have different bandwidth on the right side port with left. Did you try both ports??

Edit**
Wait..it might work with BootCamp tho..?

Currently you need to tweak port drivers and similar on most non-Razer Windows machines to make it stable.

It could be years before Bootcamp has anything close to compatible.

Woah! Is that actually playing though? Natural Windows machines can connect... you can't actually play anything without blue screens.

Now if only Apple would officially allow this then both parties will be happy since it's obvious that Apple values battery life more then performance in their portables and some power users can only afford 1 portable, this eGPU will make lots of people happy

Not 100% certain about what was played on this system, but the exact quote from the tester was "working perfectly", & this screenshot of a benchmark:

(This was re the BizonBox 3)

I wonder if there is more to this than simply rebadging. Bizon says their product works with 2016 MBP, and Akitio says their's does not.

I asked Bizon what "plug and play" means for them. They told me that you have to reboot the mac when you plug it in/remove it. So certainly not hot-swappable like the Razer Core with Razer computers.

Why not? Apple doesn't want people to buy low end Macs and have more power than the high end Macbook Pro by simply purchasing a 3rd party peripheral.

They're releasing a whole generation of underpowered machines with USB-C... I think it's pretty likely they have their own eGPU in the making.

So they likely will block others... and release in 2019.

Thank you for posting!!! I hope it can run a 10xx gpus without problem! Though I doubt there would be any on Bootcamp..

MacOS certainly can block the external gpu (which i guess it already is). If Apple sells their own egpu enclosure.. Get your wallets ready!

But I dont know if that makes sense in the Apple's sense of aesthetics.. But they've been doing some weird things lately.. So i guess it's a possibility.

Their own eGPU could explain abandoning the desktop lines... the sales base for (weak) laptops PLUS a eGPU would be much larger than just professionally.

Hmm? I dont think they abandoned their desktop line. What brought you to think of this?

I don't know if Apple would ever offer direct support for this. If you want a graphical horse they do sell iMacs/Mac Pros for your desk. I can see a possibility in combining a display with an eGPU in a single package, single cable, which might make it through Apples standards. But I don't see a clunky box being officially supported.

Unofficially however, give it 6 months.

Yeah I agree. Also not everyone can afford a top spec MBP and an iMac/Mac Pro, the display + gpu thing I like but from what we heard, it seems they're "giving up" on the display business

Though I kept saying, Apple could just officially allow it via OSX, they don't even have to put any further resources as the graphic drivers and such will be based on the graphic manufacturer effort and not Apple.

I agree with you on Apple not (at least on OSX; bootcamp is *almost* not in their control) supporting chunky box next to computer.
But iMacs aren't graphic horse.. Not only they don't have CUDA support (Nvidia's advantage), they are mobile chip inside desktop... So Razer Core + Macbook has more computing power than highest spec iMac.

Problem is Apple tend to be really fussy when it comes to hardware support, as they care about the user experience. They wouldn't want someone to be able to plug something in that'd completely crash their system. And so they'd want to officially support it. And even then, it'd likely only be a few select cards through their own interface (And likely costly too).

On top of this however, there's just not really a need for an eGPU at this stage, specially for Apple. They aren't gaming PCs and that's the main reason someone would want an eGPU. So the market they'd target would be workstation quality cards. Problem is people who need that kind of GPU will have a desktop, as it makes no sense to pair that with a notebook, there's no situation that would benefit from it (And again cost).

As I said, the only way I see this happening was with an Apple display with a build in GPU. Now though, they could go with LG. But it's just not going to happen... Again though, no doubt you'll be able to plug it in via bootcamp soon enough.

Bare in mind that currently, you could probably build a decent gaming system for the cost of just the eGPU+GPU card...

Having a better GPU doesn't necessarily means = gaming, they're people who uses Mac for 3D related stuffs and better GPU will allow them to complete their job faster (applies to videographers, photographers and etc.). Also with how Apple is with GPU right now, guess they'll be left behind in any 3rd party VR/AR development as those developers will just develop for PC since Mac doesn't offer them the hardware required to do those development. If in the future Apple has to play catch up cause people didn't develop AR/VR, I'll say they deserved it as they put themselves into this corner when they have the resources and financial means to do better.
