This is a companywide promotion. If the employee is not aware of it have them do a search or ask their manager. Once you prove your eligibility they enter the appropriate sku and the giftcard will auto prompt at the point of sale.

Good advice, I will not leave the store without a discount and GC.. If not I will leave and go to different store.

I am going to try this tomorrow. Except for the 13" Macbook Pro.

Has anyone had any success with the 13" What are we looking at $100 and a $150 giftcard? Anyone have receipt for a 13"?

Also, did they check your college id or just give it to you? I have mine but im just curious.

Should still work, all you need is proof that best buy matches apple store discount. So it shouldn't be a problem using this receipt.

I haven't purchased it yet, but i would assume a student ID will work, or they might not even ask you at all. If you look like a college student they probably won't even bother questioning.

I posted this in the bigger thread about having them in stores but I thought it would be helpful to post it in here as well.

I went to a local BB here in socal that had the base model available but was only able to get a $50 discount + $150 gc. I show them the photo of the receipt of the other user here and they said they could not match it because that BB should not have done that discount. After going back and forth for like 30 minutes I caved and took the deal they offered but I left PISSED.

For my own sanity, I called other BB in the area and found one they said BB has an offer going on right now that was $150 off + $150gc, basically matching apples total discount for students. But this BB store did not have the rMBP in stock. This BB store offered to call the manager of the BB store that I just made the purchase from but was unable to get him on the line. So I tried calling them and was able to talk to the manager and explain what the other BB was telling me. He couldn't have been more of a absolute D**K to me. I explain that another BB was giving this offer and that the store's manager even agreed to explain it to him but he wouldn't budge. Telling me he never heard of this offer and that he knew the "play book" and didn't need to talk to the other BB manager.

I going to other BB in the mourning to see if other BB would honor the full discount and if they do I'm going to return the one I purchase today. It's killing me that I have a brand new rMBP in my possession and can't even open it.

I got extremely fortunate today and drove about 45 minutes away to a Best Buy that had TWO retina Macbook pros in stock. I actually had just gone to a nearby Best Buy to reserve one after several failed attempts to get one at the Apple Store, but as I was reserving one the employee told me one location had two and they held them for me.

After several very difficult attempts, I failed at getting the $200 student discount. I am a college student and I have a college ID, but the manager told me that unless Apple gives Best Buy explicit info directing them to match a discount, they can't apply it to a customer because Apple is "very controlling" and that they don't want to "lose Apple products". I even showed her a post on Macrumors and the picture of the receipt, but she refused.

The SKU people posted earlier, 5700826, was the code that allowed to add a $150 gift card. I was successful in getting this applied to my purchase, so yes I received the gift card, but getting the student discount ($200 off) was much more important for me. Does anyone know if there's a separate SKU for this $200 off or was it a manager over ride?

First impressions: screen is unlike any laptop screen. Amazing. And coming from a 15'' early 2011 Macbook Pro, the keyboard feels different (more comfortable). Not much, but the travel has seemed to decrease slightly.

I do have the other RMBP on ebay right now if anyone's interested...lol

Haha man I'm in the SAME situation except I got NO discount, just the $150 gift card. I'm gonna try the exact same thing as you and try to go to another Best Buy tomorrow to get this corrected. But to let you know, Best Buy offers a 30 day, no questions asked return on open box laptops. I confirmed this with 3 employees about 5 times, so enjoy it while you can! It's incredible I'm telling you....But you're good to open it and use it, just don't use the Best Buy gift card or they'll deduct that $150 from the return price.

Are you sure about that? You can return a open item and get a full refund?

dang...the OP got me thinking about cancelling my amazon order but given the lack of success around...i dont think it's worth it for me to cancel. =/

I'm in the same situation as you two. I got mine from a BB in Austin today, but after 15 minutes of arguing with them and showing them a pic of another BB receipt, they still refused me the $200 discount. Please update us if you go to another Best Buy and they correct it.

Has anyone been able to find an advertisement of the Back to School promo for Best Buy? I searched online and found lots of news regarding last years Back to School promo (where they matched dollar for dollar Apple's $100 iTunes gift card), but nothing mentioning this years. I just searched Best Buy's website and wasn't able to find anything either.

That's what I would like to see as well. Their website doesn't even show the usual $100 discounts and all of their products show as pre-order only. I'm going in tomorrow morning hoping for a new 13" MacBook Pro.

Awesome I'm gonna try to bring this and the receipt to my Best buy tomorrow and see if they'll let me have my gift card.

Make sure you give them this SKU: 5700826

The manager told me regardless of situation, if you have a SKU that works with the items you're purchasing, they can't deny you. You should definitely be able to get your gift card. Let us know how it goes.

Post how your situation goes as well! I'll probably post on here by about 12 central about my experience...if my nearby Best Buy turns me down I'll go to another location lol. $200 is a lot of money. I don't get why authorized Apple resellers, especially physical retail outlets, wouldn't automatically be subject to match promotions and such. But I also reviewed Best Buy's price match post on their site and as long as an Apple Store is 25 miles away, you should be able to utilize that as your argument. The only thing that makes me think otherwise is their policy on "low stock or backordered items", but if I was able to get it at Best Buy that shouldn't apply. Even if there isn't a nearby Apple Store, I've read several posts tonight about people a couple of years back in a similar situation and they went back to get a successful student discount refund. We shall see...keep everyone posted!

Again, damn this machine is sexy!

The manager at the BB that I went too told me that you can not combine discounts. Meaning if you get the student discount than you can't get the GC or vice versa. But again, I think this manager is full of it anyways. But I would definitely try.

The managers are just making stuff up...like literally I'm positive they are. They have to sound confident in what they say and make the decision they think is right, but I think if I float around 3 best buy stores tomorrow I'll find a generous one. I was pissed at my lady. I was like listen, I'm spending almost $5000 on 2 laptops, and you can't help me out a little? Let bitches be bitches...haha

If I'm able to get another one tomorrow, when I return the one I have now I am definitely giving that manager a BIG piece of my mind. Calling them bitches is being too kind.

Sales tax is $175? I thought if you ordered online there's no sales tax. Even if you apply the $150 gift card directly into the purchase of the Macbook (which I'm pretty sure you can't), that's still $20 you'll be paying above if you paid for it online.

Walked into a Best Buy today, got the only RMBP with the $150 GC, student discount, and signed up for Reward Zone.

Someone else came in and asked for a RMBP as I was buying it... whoops!

As far as I'm aware, you have to pay sales tax even on online orders if the company you are purchasing from has a physical presence in your state. I'm unsure of which states enforce this, but that's how it is at least here in Arizona. There's no sales tax for Amazon here, but because Best Buy has a physical presence, the sales tax is enforced.

Sort of on subject. So who can help me figure out how to get all my discounts?

I'm a student. So that part is easy (maybe not so much at best buy).

I am also from Alaska, which means I'm not required to pay sales tax in Seattle (where i currently live).

So here is the issue, I want the base model RMBP with 16gigs of ram. If I order it online from Apple, I have to pay 200 dollars in sales tax (can't show my Alaska ID). If I buy from best buy or an apple store, I can only get the base model w/ 8 gigs of ram.

Do you think I could talk best buy into ordering a 16gig base model, then waive the sales tax, then get the student discount, and then ask for the 150 dollar gift card? Does best buy even do custom orders? Will an apple store even do one? How do I get a 16gig model shipped to Seattle without paying for it first!!!?

Any ideas? Appreciate any help.

Sales tax can't be waived usually and I don't think best buy even carries the 16gb model

Alaskans are sales tax exempt. As long as I pay for it IN seattle. I just show my ID at checkout. So ordering online doesn't work. But how do I get a 16gig to seattle without ordering it first? It's an odd issue.
