I'd be surprised if apple doesn't use their own A4 processor, meaning that it will be faster.

As for the other features, a AMOLED screen could be a plus and higher resolution could be a plus but given that no changes/mention of a higher resolution in the SDK

AMOLED won't happen... they don't even use OLED...

Besides, OLED screens look like crap under the sun.

I think new iPhone needs:

-at least 5MB camera with HD video recording (must, must, must for 2010!)
-higher resolution screen
-more powerful processor
-more RAM
-front facing low res camera would be nice
-better speakers would be nice

If the first two things aren`t coming, I will not buy the new version.

5MP camera will look awful and be even worse in low light situations unless they increase the sensor size. I'd rather see them increase the sensor and not worry about megapixels. Right now the camera is decent provided you're in a well lit area. image quality quickly tanks because apple is using a tiny sensor.

Apple's 3 megapixel camera takes better pictures than pretty much all of these new 5MP cameras (obviously not in low light) so if they do move to 5MP I think you can be fairly confident that they'll include a good lens/sensor or whatever it's called to take advantage of it

It shouldnt be new... 4.0 alone should have updated the Maps app, speech to text? Why would you hold that back? The new iphone should be a Hardware update only... not app updates unless it's related to the new hardware.

Remember, what we saw last week was SNEAK PEAK. They never reveal everything up front. They didn't for 2.0, 3.0, and they didn't for 4.0

Be patient...just wait for the iPhone first, then make your decision.

I'm waiting for the next phone simply for the better screen. Definitely not a whoopty doo for me, I'll be thrilled. Being faster is really cool too, though I think the 3GS is fast enough for now.

I'm a photographer and I've used a number of 5MP cameras and I can easily and safely say that's not entirely true. Yeah it can take decent pictures better then the 3G but its no where near the quality of and performance of a 5MP camera.

Yes I do believe that.

They can't afford not to increase the resolution. The iPhone's competitors are ahead in this regard and it makes a huge difference in the user experience.

If there's one thing you can count on for the new iPhone in terms of hardware changes, the absolute most likely would be a better screen. It's the major downside of the iPhone's hardware now.

Exactly. You said it yourself.

You clearly don't like the 4.0 OS. But you don't know what's in store for the iPhone 4.0 because you haven't seen the hardware nor the apps that go along with it.

So you can't say the iPhone 4 will be a disappointment, only that 4.0 OS is a disappointment (for you).

Higher res at the current form factor mean things will be smaller. They'd have to make a taller/wider iPhone. Big no-no. iPhone is perfect at this point in terms of size. Also, this is a realistic analysis. We all know realistically, Apple doesn't adopt things fast, they take their sweet time to do so.

It means they will be smaller or they'd be clearer and the same size. Have you used a really hi-res phone? I have a Nexus One.

My Nexus One is a great size. I don't think Apple would be against changing the size slightly.

Also, this is a realistic analysis. We all know realistically, Apple doesn't adopt things fast, they take their sweet time to do so.

I'd bet a new iPhone that it has a higher-res screen. People won't buy the new iPhone unless it is significantly better in terms of hardware. Since every one of Apple's competitors have a high-res screen in their flagship phones, Apple will need one too. It's a huge disadvantage now. It makes a giant difference.

Sounds more like:

Viaos, Envys, XPS have Blu-Ray! Apple has to adopt it or they would be at a disadvantage!

To the OP:

Stop complaining and just leave the iPhone and go to Android or WinMo. After your there for a month or two and realize how buggy those platforms are and you decide to come back, make sure you start another thread apologizing for wasting our time having to read this thread.

No offense, but thats a pretty fanboy-ish thing to say. Apple is or has been an innovator with gadgets, so when iphone 4.0 is adding things phones can already do & more it seems a little disappointing. Although we have not seen the hardware yet, Apple is not going to give you "everything" you ask for upfront. They are masters at updates and upgrades. They have to leave room for 5.0. That is why i feel other compaines are catching up in developing a better smartphone. Apple needs to drop something that raises the bar again but i feel as if the devices are not going to win the smartphone battle... OS's are.

I love my iphone tons but seeing some of the things android can do it really makes me consider looking around at other devices. We will see what happens June 22

id rather they focus on things we actually want than a few gimmicks that only a small percentage of people care about...i mean fingerprint security? yea that's gonna make or break the iphone

Well actually the android platform is far from buggy. I found it quite solid in fact.

Also this is a discussion forum, and if you don't like this thread, why not just ignore it instead of telling the OP to stop posting here.

It isn't, and if you don't understand the difference I don't know what to say.

Same thing, you are just to into that fact to see it. Also, MacBook Pros in terms of hardware are at a disadvantage always, yet they sell well. Same thing with the iPhone.

Nexus One has a very nice res and screen, yet we all heard that its sale numbers are a flop.

It's going to disappoint us guys...

1. It's have a better camera, 5mp... maybe better video, maybe a flash.
2. iChat probably won't come to iphone, probably for the next iPad
3. GPS/Maps will still suck, no turn by turn with voiceover... apple would rather you spend money in the app store for that.
4. Better screen higher res.. whoopty doo
5. Hopefully a better frigging external speaker and vibration... so sick of missing calls and alerts.
6. It'll be faster... ok cool

All this crazy stuff ive been reading about fingerprint security, multitouch backing, FM/radio wave transmitter... not happening. I still have my 3G and if the next iPhone isn't more significant than this i will be upgrading to something else. Nexus one, HTC Incredible, and Droid have my attention... and apple doesnt seem to be stepping up. I REALLY HOPE I EAT MY WORDS!

Are you seriously complaining about a product that hasn't even launched yet?

I can understand realistic conjecture, but you are just whining.

Like it was said before, the iPhone isn't "one size fits all" and plenty of people are happy with it the way it is.

I know I am. If the iPhone just had a better camera and higher resolution screen, I would be happy. I do like the idea of a new form factor. (Maybe something like the iPad.) But I really don't want to sacrifice WiFi and cellular reception for a nice aluminum bezel.

I have a 3GS now but I plan on eating some money to upgrade, and I'm ok with that. It may be pathetic, but I pay for Apple because I like it and it works. The iPhone fits perfectly in my Mac ecosystem alongside my Macbook Pro, iPod nano, and yes, my parent's Apple TV.

I think you need to stop, as we in the South say, "counting your chickens before they hatch."

You have no intel as to what Apple is preparing, and even if you did you cannot truly complain about it until you hace experienced it and held it in your hands.

And then your complaints should be constructive and offer better ideas in place of the features you have issues with.

There are plenty of 3rd applications that do the tasks you ask for. (Turn-by-turn navigation for example.)

What is wrong with supporting App Store developers?

Quit whining.

I guarantee the next iPhone has a higher resolution screen. Bookmark this page for when it comes out. You can quote me if I'm wrong. I'm 100% sure.
