I've got NFC on my n7 and haven't used it for anything but to try skim my own credit cards and see what sort of information could be pulled from it, otherwise haven't used it at all.

That's fine. Not everyone is going to use it. There are plenty of people that can and do find a use for it. I've been using NFC to pump gas for 10+ years now.

Only a few have any real value to me. YMMV. My thoughts on how the improvements sit with me.........

4" Screen - Meh....last I checked, my thumb didn't lengthen
44% greater color saturation - I see no need to over saturate a display. That's more in line with a typical P&S Camera vs a good DSLR.
Full sRGB support - Good thing I don't edit images in PS on my phone
Higher brightness - Already keep mine at 50%
Less glare - Would be welcome for sure

Performance Improvements
2x CPU & 2x GPU - if it improves Siri's responses, I'm game.
Better battery life -Yet to be seen

Enclosure Improvements
20% Lighter -welcome
18% Thinner - Meh...lighter > thinner
Increased durability - $15 I replaced my back glass myself.

Wireless Improvements
LTE - Meh.....only useful if I'm using it as a hot-spot but I refuse to pay to do so.
DC-HSDPA - N/A to me
Dual band 802.11n - more useful on an iPad as I rarely wifi more than just apps. I suppose it would make syncing faster but I sync monthly if that and just leave my phone charge while doing so.

Camera/Video Improvements
Sapphire Crystal (more durable) - Never scratched any of my previous cameras
40% faster capture speed - Until it can shoot sports, no care.
Better low-light performance - In camera jpeg processing driven; good for those that don't Post Process.
Improved noise-reduction - I've downloaded the sample images and at ISO 50 they are still very noisy. No in camera jpeg processing help seen. I'd rather Post Process them.
720p HD Facetime camera - I've never used facetime
Improved video stabilization - Nice I suppose.
Still photos while recording video - Nice if you can pull a full 8mp image from a video but otherwise meh....
A6 post processing of photos - I never process on phone

All of the above are funny. Give me a camera with a decent lens and quality bokeh already.

Audio Improvements - Interesting
Better Earphones - I rather they keep any OEM ones and discount the phone
Three microphones - Interesting
5 magnet speakers - Interesting
2-way noice cancelling earpiece - Interesting
Wideband/HD Audio - Interesting

Connectivity Improvements
80% smaller dock connector - Meh.....I actually prefer a wider connection point for stability
Reversible dock connector - Not ground breaking.

On serious side, how is :apple: logo and "iPhone" text going to be embedded on the backplate?

Anyone get the information? I like how it's implemented on iPhone 4 and 4S. It's essentially non-destructible unless you also destroy/scratch/crack the backplate, in which case you'd want to replace the backplate instead. So, you essentially can't destroy those marks.

In the contrary, those imprints on pre iPhone 4 is disgustingly weak. Keep it for a few months and you'll start to notice how the logo and text imprint slowly start to get scratched and damaged.
So how about this iPhone? Will it be anodized into the back?

perhaps posted already but this made me LOL :D

While I like the iPhone 5 and will most likely get it, there are not thirty hardware improvements. Most glaring example, using the dock connector as two improvements. That's like saying adding thunderbolt to macs is two separate improvements. These things can be grouped together

1. Better picture quality. This includes 44% greater color saturation, Full sRGB support (same thing), Higher brightness, Less glare
2. Faster A6 chip. Since one chip includes both CPU and GPU, it's unfair to label them as two improvements.
3. Thinner: this include incell touch, smaller sim card, and everything they did to make it thinner.
4. Wireless improvements. - upgrading to modern network technologies is a given and I don't see why it counts as three improvements.
5. You have 8 improvements dedicated to the camera. Anybody who needs a better cell phone camera is crazy. Most people these days view their photos digitally and nobody has a 8 megapixel screen. Those who need higher quality photos get DSLRs. People stopped really caring about camera quality after iPhone 4. The biggest limitation of cell phone pictures is that it can only take wide angle shots, not any of the things Apple improved.

As I said, your use of the word "stretched" was nothing but doublespeak. :)

It is stretched from the 3:2 aspect ratio. The amount of usable space is diminished by stretching it in only one dimension.

Absolutely, you listed stuff that you feel are important. I listed stuff that are significant to me. Works out nicely. :)

Correct, except for the fact that I didn't belittle your opinion or act like it was invalid. If you're one of the people that was wishing all along for a tall iPhone, that's great. I'm guessing, though, that you would praise no matter what came out as the right way to go.

And it's probably about right for the hundreds of millions of people who thought it was good enough when they bought an iPhone in the past.

Hundreds of millions?? That might be a bit of an exaggeration. The numbers I've seen as of August are 85 million total iPhones sold...so figure about half are still in circulation and of those several are repeat buyers.

And you have to ask yourself if you really think the iPhone wouldn't have sold just as many if it had a 4.3 inch screen from the beginning. I bet it would have. I don't think it's that people have a preference for a 3.5 inch screen...it's just that has been the only option.

You might have been thinking of Android, which has sold around 250 million units to date. Most of those have larger screens...those people must be crazy!

I wouldn't hold my breath. :)

:D I get the joke, but the reduced weight isn't just about how heavy it feels when you are holding in your hand. I noticed the reduced weight more when it's in a pocket. Less mass, means less force moving around.

Again, if you can notice a difference...

Incorrect. Pixels are added. Nothing is stretched. Nothing is lost.

This is why BaldiMac is calling your statement doublespeak....and I agree.

I also think people were waiting for Apple to do something more "innovative" like figuring out a way to remove the top and bottom bezels, instead of just making the phone longer. Maybe a phone that is lightly flexible because of a new kind of OLED technology. Maybe a hybrid solar charging phone. I'm not saying these are good ideas, I'm not the genius here. Apple got so rich because they could imagine new ideas no one has thought about.

Cameras will always get better, screens bigger, devices thinner, and faster. This is not any sort of innovation, it's just evolution of what we already have. Whether this kind of constant innovation is realistic or not, it is what people have come to expect from Apple and why some are disappointed.

But of course you do. The ratio is stretched from 3:2 to 16:9. Stretch is a term used to refer to widescreen aspect ratios in TVs and movies. Yes I understand that pixels are added, making it taller but not wider. Yes I understand the pixels are not actually stretched in the vertical dimension. Unfortunately those added pixels are not as useful to me as they would be if added in both horizontal and vertical planes.

Wrong, stretch is used when you spread the existing pixels of a video source. We are talking a video display. The display is not stretched unless you somehow spread the existing pixels over a wider space. In this case we are adding pixels to increase the size. So stretch is the wrong word when discussing displays.

I don't exactly find them that useful either. I don't find the need to add pixels in either direction. Despite that, using the term stretch is incorrect and is probably chosen due to it's negative connotation. I would prefer people keep it clear and concise and stop manipulating the situation by chosing terms that don't fit just because they fit their motivation.

I haven't criticised Apple once. I love Apple products and have used them for nearly 10 years without feeling the need to look elsewhere.

I just don't feel like the iPhone 5 is a worthwhile improvement. What's wrong with that?

Have you ever taken a picture with the front facing camera? It's far from "fine" :) Some of the things you mention aren't a huge improvement, but a bunch are.

I have owned most iPhones produced (skipped the 4S) and am very excited about this new upgrade. I really don't understand what all the complaining is about. Seems like a great new iPhone to me.

after this upgrade the only waste to me seems to be the 4s, now that was BARELY an upgrade from the 4, glad i skipped that one.

I think its an improvement no doubt, but as much as the 3gs>4 was? I don't think so!

In terms of internal components, yes it's much bigger of an upgrade than the one between 3gs and iphone 4. The processor jump is much more significant and now they have added LTE. iPhone 4's processor speed upgrade was very marginal in comparison and it didnt have a new wireless technology.

Those do not mean the new screen is oversaturated. it means now the screen has the color gamut that fits the standard color space. In other words the colors will be more accruate than ever before. Just as with the new iPad's screen, this improvement in color saturation and accuracy get ignored or misunderstood. The older LCDs tended to be undersaturated.

As a photographer and an iPad 3 owner and user, I can say while the new screen and colors are great, it's far from accurate. There's a visible difference once you calibrate the output of the iPad screen to match a color corrected monitor and printer. Thankfully the tools exist so when I show my clients their images, they don't get the super saturated and clipped images that while look good on screen don't match reality.

Care to point me in the right direction?

Display Improvements
4" Screen I'm perfectly happy with 3.5"
In-cell touch What?
44% greater color saturation I'm happy with the current screen colour, as are most people.
Full sRGB support Not sure what this is?
Higher brightness Current brightness is fine.
Less glare Glare doesn't affect me and I doubt it affects others.

Performance Improvements
2x CPU iPhone 4 is fast enough
2x GPU Current graphics processor is good enough IMO
Better battery life I doubt it, let's see what happens in real life.

Enclosure Improvements
20% Lighter Who cares?
18% Thinner As above.
Increased durability How exactly?

Wireless Improvements
LTE Good improvement but not worth £529
DC-HSDPA Unsure what this is.
Dual band 802.11n As above.

Camera/Video Improvements
Sapphire Crystal (more durable) Don't understand this.
40% faster capture speed Current camera is fine.
Better low-light performance How much better?
Improved noise-reduction
720p HD Facetime camera Current camera is fine.
Improved video stabilization Hmmm.
Still photos while recording video Pointless feature.
A6 post processing of photos Won't change much.

Audio Improvements
Better Earphones Nothing to do with iPhone 5 itself.
Three microphones What does this improve?
5 magnet speakers Unsure what this improves?
2-way noice cancelling earpiece As above.
Wideband/HD Audio HD audio? How does that work?

Connectivity Improvements
80% smaller dock connector Nothing wrong with the current dock.
Reversible dock connector What does this improve?

*********************************************************

All the above really shows me is that a lot of the new features are very minimal and hardly improve anything of any real significance. The only feature I actually think is a good improvement is the LTE.

The iPhone 5 is obviously the "best iPhone ever". But is it really worth the money for a lot of people? Certainly not for me.

I'm sticking with my iPhone 4 and until something really game changing comes out I'll be very happy with what I've got.

You are ignorant. Ignorant = lacking knowledge or unawareness in general

In-cell touch = no additional layer of digitiser = sharper image & less glare (thinner but yes who cares)
dual band wireless n = 5GHz region is less crowd = stable connection
facetime HD = It is a big different VGA (640 x 480) 720P (1280x720)
still photo while recording video = 1.want to get one shot out of movie 2. want to have movie backup for fast motion
A6 post processing = we will see -> just like you comment on battery life
three microphones = noise cancellation -> voice clarity
wideband audio = voice of human has several frequency -> in order to send voice through phone line, large portion of frequency is cut out. This produce unpleasant voice that is not understandable sometimes. Wideband improves this.
reversible dock connector = no wrong way to plugin like 3.5 headphone jack

Other things I don't know but not gonna justify them until I know.
