Ya, and all 155 probably returned by 3 people. :D

If your still trying to make the case that there is some huge widespread problem with quality control on these screens, it time to give it up.

There are some screens with issues, but it's a small percentage of units, period.

So true!

I have to say I don't completely agree with that statement. I think a lot of people just don't mind OR notice an inconsistent screen, and that I can speak of from personal experience. I have many friends with iPads that I personally wouldn't be happy with. They, however, are more than content with their iDevice, and who am I to tell them otherwise?

Just went through apple's forms and also searched here, 155 combined iPads returned for dust under the screen(including mine), 2 people had even gone through 22 iPads for that, i am seriously debating getting a MacBook Air 11 inch instead.
Smart move. But get the Pro instead. Air has crappy screen performance. Viewing angle sucks cows ass.

Speaking to the public: All you need is just a macbook pro or a Mac with a monitor. Anything more, you've got issues....

Apple do not manufacture anything, it's made by Foxconn who also make electronic devices for other companies like HP etc.
Foxconn, the Chinese manufacturer who pays 50 cents / hr for the workers to manufacturer these devices. They are also treated as slaves. Ya can't expect good build quality from the Chinese factories...

Unfortunately it's like that with almost all electronics today as they are all taken over by the Chinese. World is coming to an end, seriously.

The best ones are built in the 90's~ early 00', especially from Japan. They are the Gods.

Rule #1: Don't buy any electronics, well, except for maybe a laptop or desktop PC for something you have to for work.

You gotta keep in mind, that the iPad 3 tech is worse than the 1950's CRT TV.... it's more like closer to the 1800's tech, you know, during Civil War?

----------

You are wrong. The failure rate on these iPad 3 devices is at 100%. Of course, Apple isn't the only one. The people that claim theirs are perfect is not perfect.

100% failure rate for 3 people.

I went through a lot of the iPads yesterday at the apple store, almost all models where DL , out of the bunch there were quite a few decent ones , much better than any I had received but did see flaws in them. Apparently they stopped making iPads from that factory is what I was told by an employee, why? ....he didn't know.

I kept getting DM models with pink/green blotches and half tints. I requested anything but a DM but of course they only had that one model. The ones that were shipped to me also where DM's . Is that the only factory now making the newest models? If it is the new white is pink!

Seriously?

come on guys...you're looking at the screens wrong!

ha! jk

i bought an iPad 2 and while the screen itself was fine, the iPad typed by itself. restoring it did nothing, still typed by itself.

took it back to an Apple Store and they swapped it out with another one. haven't had any problems since.

i inspected every centimeter of this iPad (it's a refurb) and it's flawless. now granted there could be a sealed turd inside and i wouldn't know it, but from what i can tell it's a perfect unit

for everyone swapping out 1,2,5,8, 10 "new" iPads before finding a new one...just wait it out. whatever you are using now whether it's an iPad 1 or an iPad 2, or god forbid...a netbook (gasp)...it'll probably hold you over until they have hammered out these issues. despite what you all may think, customer returns don't fall on deaf ears. someone is keeping track of these issues. i used to work in quality assurance from the product sustainability side of things and we investigated every customer complaint.

wait it out another month or two, you'll see the quality substantially improve

Me: why is every screen different?

Apple corporate care: because every screen is unique like a snowflake.

Whatever!

I haven't seen a single post on the iPad screen issues in a long time. Does this mean the problems are fixed?

Nope! Sure aren't. #3 after 2 month wait, and now done with this product.

Assuming you bought at an Apple store, you have every right to demand an exchange until you find one with a non defective screen. Baffled that you gave up that easily.

I really don't want to be sucked into the endless exchange cycle. It's a distressing experience, and I don't enjoy being treated like a crazy person each time. They still don't acknowledge that they've ever heard of the problem.

I wonder if Apple would sell me one of their obviously hand-picked floor models.

Every right until they decide to ban you from buying anymore.

Odd, the guy at the Apple store I went to tried giving me the "glue needs to dry" spiel. Then after I refused to accept that answer the "all ipad screens are different but still within spec" spiel.

It's obvious they know there's a problem, when they are telling employees to say these things.

I had a better experience with customer service, but I also gave up after several exchanges because the exchange cycle was wearing on me. A lot of the problems my units had were very visible in pictures, such as the pink tint or the scratch on the case (brown box unit), so it helped that I could provide pictures each time, but basically I got tired of receiving an ipad with problems. It got to the point where I dreaded opening boxes, and I decided the ipad's not for me. Maybe next year, or maybe late this year if there are reports that iPads are getting better. But I have to say that all the recent units I got were incredibly pink hued, not so much yellow, which I found strange. Overcompensating for reports of yellow tint?

Regardless, I am grateful that the applecare person was extremely gracious, and didn't pretend not to see problems when I emailed pictures of the scratch, the pink tinting, etc. I don't know if the in store exchange process might be more frustrating.. I find the apple store lighting to be too bright to tell a lot of the irregular tint issues.

this thread is great. .. has giving me plenty to laugh at.

As I said, I'm glad Apple Customer Service was gracious, unlike a few of the posters on macrumors, who apparently like being on the forum to be nasty to others. It leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

oh no! not a warning message! :D

im fairly certain a mod would find this post hilarious as well.

if this isnt trolling.. man i dont know what is. maybe its just delusional

people on here who think that less than 1% of all ipads being defect constitutes as the Ipad 3 in whole is flawed and infinite problem, leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

if people think there is this ginormous problem with ipads, file a complaint with the BBB when it happens to you. Dont sit on here and whine about it on a forum like a teenage girl. We already have too many redundant threads about the "screen issues" do something about it

if its such a real huge problem, and the proper steps are taken to document it, apple will do something about it to the numerous BBB complaints.

The "within spec" comments and the leaked support document regarding how to handle the yellow tinted iMacs definitely indicates to me that Apple knows exactly what's going on with their screens.

Unfortunately most of the population can't see screen problems, or don't care about them when they do see them. Apple doesn't have to worry about this affecting profitability.

I suspect somewhere deep down at Apple, they are still perfectionists and these screen problems bother them. There's just nothing they can do about it right now, not with the current technology and volumes they're dealing with.

Because people who care about screen uniformity are a tiny minority, we're only going to see reliably good screens when a screen technology is invented that has uniformity baked deep into its fundamental nature, something that a discolored LED or plastic diffuser installed improperly at Foxconn can't screw up. Whether that's IGZO or OLED or whatever, who knows.

What leaked document? Have you got a link? Just Googled but couldn't find anything.

Thanks.

It's obviously not a problem for such a person.
