I have been able to duplicate the iphone 4 reception problem with a bumper installed.
Hold it in right had fine, hold it in left had in the same spot bars drop off. EVEN WITH APPLE BUMPER INSTALLED.

I really think this has to do with an area that has weak reception in the first place because I have done this at other places and it doesnt move. Hence the reason some are reporting this and others are not.

I live in an area where I do get 3-5 bars, but when you were able to do the DB check the DB was weak. If the DB signal is strong it doesnt do this in my testing.

There going to issue a "software "fix"". They are also going to spin the media into a different direction to make it seem as if the phone is not the issue. They will deny, deny and deny. Then it will all fade away after people just give up trying to get it fixed.

That's what happened with the piss yellow screens on the 3GS. Apple stated it was "normal". Some accepted it, others did not. Then, it just faded away.

I love mine it's working flawlessly  I can make calls and i haven't dropped any since i've had my iphone 4, No yellow screen , No prox sensor problems and no camera issues. Apple IMO at least for mine has outperformed itself

I know 5 people with the iphone 4 and none of them have had this issue. I am on my second handset, because of the yellow screen issue, and neither have suffered from this issue.

I am not doubting that its widespread but maybe it isn't as prevalent as you think and I severely doubt there will be a recall.

Replacement Will be Offered

I believe that replacements will be offered to those experiencing the drop...I am not sure what percentage of folks are experiencing the drop but I would believe that should a replacement be offered that the number of folks returning their units will not be as great as some media outlets are reporting...yes....their is a problem with some units...but.....media knows that reporting problems gets more attention than reporting good things....we'll see how big a problem it is here shortly...just my thoughts

Sorry to burst your bubble, but no way. At most I would see them sending out bumpers.

Nope there won't be a recall. And not everyone's iPhone 4 is having issues. This reminds me of how the networks covered the shark attacks. They hyped it up so much that it seemed like hundreds of people were getting attacked, When in reality it was a few.

But then some people just want to buy a ticket to ride on the bandwagon..i suppose

They won't need to recall my phone - it's going back for a full refund on monday! I was so excited to get my phone and thought tmobile were having a bad network day when I experienced the well documented problems. To use legal speak, it is not fit or purpose or of merchantable quality and SJ comments just make me MAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will swap for a blackberry but probable get an iPad which was my original plan before I was swept up in all the iPhone hype!

I will wait and see what Apple comes up with on Monday - if they acknowledge the problem and recall then fine (I can't see how a firmware update will resolve this). I love Apple, but after 3 replacement Macbook's with a cracked case I am starting to question their approach to customers.

I don't know, this is pretty damning:

http://www.cnn.com/2010/TECH/mobile/06/25/iphone.problems.response/index.html?video=true&hpt=T2

It's likely only going to get worse before it gets better.

That’s old news. There are plenty of people that don’t have this problem. Because of that and all the other good things about the 4 (and because I have a 3G), I’ve decided to get the 4. I’m going to try to see if it has the issue before leaving the store and if not, it’s mine. If later I do have problems, I’ll just return it. Apple will get this sorted, no matter what.

this reception issue is quickly spiraling out of control and getting worse by the minute. anyone who has been able to reproduce it or is not an iSheep knows that this cripples the iphone for both calling and internet. they will have no choice but recall or face massive PR hit and lawsuits

FYI there is already a voluntary recall underway -- return it to the store and move on w/ your life. Done. If you are pissed at Apple rid yourself of that evil beast iPhone 4 or just ****. There is a Droid with your name on it over at Verizon or Sprint.

I must say I was at the Apple Store today and did not see a long snaked return line. So much for the issue spiraling out of control.

That's no "report". That's some jackass analyst talking out of his ass.

On the Interwebs that qualifies as a report. Actually it's not any worse than the jackass story on NBC news last night w/ them using Gizmodo as a source.
