AWESOME... Its not available for install on my Mac, so officially my Macbook Pro from Mid 2009 with new solid state HD and 8GB of ram is not-good enough.... So no more updates for me I guess. What a crock of SHIZZ

Expecting a now 7 year old computer to be relevant, is a little bit much don't you think?
Good riddance.

I am temporarily using a 2012 MBP while I wait for the new announcement and regularly want to throw it out the window Office Space style because it is so incredibly slow even after formatting.

Time to move on.

What? Your computer is going on a decade old!! That's some old Shizz as you say. I think Apple should drop 5 year old tech. I hope you aren't serious.

That should not be happening, it is not normal.
Perhaps a clean install would solve your problem?
Or using software like Onyx to clean up your system?

A clean install will solve the problem. I had the same issue with my MacBook. I don't understand why Apple only let you install over your current operating system (which itself was probably installed over the previous operating system and so on). This results in a lot of rubbish clogging up your Mac system folders and requires a third party solution to fix the problems this causes. Download the OS installer again and Diskmaker X to make a boot-able installer disk. It's very straightforward. You'll need either an 8 GB USB stick or a spare external drive that you don't mind erasing and making an 8 GB partition for the boot disk. You'll also need a Time Machine backup of your Mac. Boot from the installer drive you've made and before installing the OS, go to the Disk Utility to erase your internal hard drive. Install the OS and then use Time Machine to migrate over your user folder. Personally, I like to install all Applications fresh again using the latest installers and updates. Your machine should run smooth as butter after that.

This is something only Apple could do.

"We had the COURAGE to release an OS without computers to run it..."
=)

(Actually installed on my wife's MBA 2012 last night along with a 480GB SSD from OWC from 128GB, so she's pretty happy so far...)

unfortunately siri is as bad as it is on an iphone.
secondly, my macbook got slower.
sigh

3.5 hours download plus half hour install. Installed with no issues! Safari, for me, is faster. Only issue is from El Capitan where I lost my mail outgoing server. masOS didn't fix it!

Everything else is great with this upgrade!

The current Apple mobile Hardware list is too big, 5 laptops, 3 tablets, and 3 phones... I think that they have to think about it: the more models, the more difficult to update and to manufacture and expensive too.

Not to sound elitist, but I think they need to kill off their entry level everything. Sure, they are cheaper but anybody with even minimal knowledge of computers can tell there are going to be issues sooner, usually RAM or storage. In fact whenever Apple decides to increase the specs on their entry level products that should pretty much tell you it’s not going to be enough within a couple years.

My mother usually gets the entry level whatever and sure enough a few years later she can't upgrade the OS or take advantage of certain features because she doesn't have enough RAM or drive space and she's by no means a power user.

Great job Apple. Your 'Mac App Store' app is every bit as buggy and useless as it was years ago. In fact, it's even worse now.

It is always an utter nightmare to download things through the mac app store. There are almost NO options. Want to remove a download halfway through? Good luck, you can't, your only option is to 'pause' it, because the executives in Cupertino apparently aren't bright enough to figure out that some people might want to remove a paused download. I always have to type my password THREE times before initiating any download. Literally, the exact same password, it's correct (it doesn't say it's incorrect) but it always asks three times. Then, once the download starts, it will go about 20% through and then....completely stop. It goes from 20 MB/s down to 0.7 KB/s. I have fiber optic internet, there is ZERO reason for the download to go so slowly.

This is rudimentary stuff. It is so easy to set up an effective content distribution network. I don't know why Apple always has problems with bandwidth, EVERY freaking year. You people never learn.

You people really need to offer a direct macOS download URL via Amazon's CloudFront CDN or something, because your app store simply sucks.

I'm gonna love this: apple wont have any new hardwares for people to download this macOS unless they buy current models...whatever that may be.

What the..? Lol

Pretty much the same as El Capitan, more of a service pack than a new OS.

Sadly my Wifi is now not as stable as it used to be, wish Apple could release an update which doesn't screw everything up!

Yes. The download speed is pitiful.

I started the macOS Sierra download from the app store last night around 10PM and it has only managed to download roughly half by this AM. It is currently predicting over 20 more hours to complete the download.

FWIW I monitor the incoming and outgoing throughput on my AirPort Extreme. With zero other traffic last night, the incoming data was only happening in short bursts of a about a second followed by several seconds with no traffic at all. This was still the case when I checked first thing this AM. I've paused the download now and will start it back up this PM. Makes me wonder if Apple has the compute/network infrastructure to support these nearly simultaneous, massive roll outs of iOS, tvOS, watchOS and macOS?

p.s. Other network traffic was normal last night and still is this AM.
I think it just makes the roll out more exciting. Its like camping in front of the Apple store!

Here's my 2 Geekbench tests side by side. One at 11am, the other at 5pm.
Retina Macbook 12" stock standard. What a HUGE difference Yosemite to Sierra makes.
Won't even open Pages without beach balling and turning to not-responding.
Didn't expect this. Internet Recovery Mode it is, back to Yosemite.
Now after everything has loaded to iCloud the Benchmarks are now faster than they were on Yosemite.

I noticed my cpu was being used pretty heavily on my 2012 15 inch to the point it got hot. iPhoto was running hard in the background for a while.

Yeah, no ... I've got a late-2012 iMac that lost some of it's lustre with the move to El Capitan so probably won't be going to Sierra.
I have a 27" late 2012 iMac. I stayed at 10.10.4 until now. Have installed Sierra and I have to say it is great.......everything works and works fast. This, on my machine, is the best OS since late 2012:)

Dang, Quickbooks 2009 no longer works. I know it's old software but it worked fine all the way through El Cap. Anybody else able to get it to work in Sierra?

Has anyone taken advantage of the file optimisation?

I've no interest in upgrading to paid iCloud storage & the 5GB free is clearly not enough. Especially if you have a couple of iOS backups or photos saved on there.

Hah...I want to upgrade just so that my computer now runs "macOS" rather than "OS X" which has always been awkward.

However, nearly every single feature mentioned is something I'll never us. El Capitan for me at home and at work.

Sometimes I pine for my 9 year-old Macbook Pro that was stolen this year...long live Snow Leopard!

Password login takes one or two seconds, I think this is annoying for users without Apple Watch unlock.

This download system is horrible. Apple has more cash on hand than God and the United States government but they won't pay for the bandwidth they so desperately need for the macos sierra release.
