Great SSD. I'm just waiting for Anand's review and a little more time to pass here. I've got no reason to be part of the beta test team to determine if there are any issues. :)

holy smokes.

By comparison, my Vertex 2 gets -

239.4MB/sec
264.3MB/sec for that same test.

I'm really happy with my owc ssd I get boot up times of 8-10 secs
But those benchmarks for v3 are amazing

Just waiting for prices to drop - will deffo be coppin a v3 soon

Ps when you tested the v3 on utube did you wait for osx to load then click on all the apps individually?
It looks to me like he had the programs launch on login.
System preferences -> Accounts -> Login Items

Wow, that was fast, (video) boot times. If I didn't blow all my money on my MBP I would be getting one of these. SSD + Thunderbolt = awesomeness!!!

here is my video comparison showing the vertex 3 kicking other SSD's butts:

Computertechno,

I just got my 120Gb Vertex 3 in the mail today. Did you do anything special when installing it? Did you format it in NTFS or HFS+? I remember Vertex 2's could only accept firmware updates if they were in NTFS.

I have a 13inch 2011 Pro. Thanks for the help! Anyone please chime in if they know.

I think a lot of people BootCamp in order to do the firmware updates. So HFS+ initially for OS X, then using BootCamp will create another partition for Windows so that you can flash the drive whenever.

I'd like to see 2 of the same MacBooks Pro with the same apps one with SATA3 and one with SATA2.

Ahh that makes sense. I couldn't wait and just threw it in there and did HFS+. Its installing now, says its taking 32 minutes (I expected faster but oh well)

I'll let you guys know if I run into any problems.

It can only install as fast as the DVD lets it. If you install from a USB thumb-drive it will install in under 8min.

This drive is absolutely stunning. No issues so far and I've tried sleeping it several times.

It feels like everything in minimized as opposed to not running at all. If anyone has any software they can recommend for some benchmarking I'd be happy to help.

I have not enabled trim support yet, are there any drawbacks to doing so?

Vertex 3 lookin mighty fine.

Thanks for pointing me to that AJA system test. Just did a little benchmark for 4GB file at same settings 1920 blah blah 10gbit. Anyway got:

243.7 MB/s write
267.6 MB/s read

34nm

Good enough for me, especially since I hardly write to this drive, but just do lots of reading from SC2/WoW and applications. If I run into a deal I'll be tempted to upgrade to Vertex 3 though lol

So you guys that have the Vertex 3 are telling me that you are having absolutely NO compatibility problems and it's that blazing fast? I've been looking at SSDs and thought I would get an Intel or OWC after OCZ's problems in the past. Maybe they actually figured it out with this Vertex 3. It's intriguing! I wish Anand would put up a review already! I've been checking twice a day!

Just ordered a 240GB OCZ Vertex 3 from B&H Photo. I spent an arm and a leg for it but if so many are not having any problems with it, it seems worth it. I need the extra space on my drive anyway.

Yep, I originally wasn't planning on buying one. I was online when they released on newegg for all of the two hours they in stock. I called in to check and she said their were 16 left. I had to bite, especially with the 25 dollar off coupon available. 275 for a SATA III 120gb when SATA II 120gb is 50-60 bucks less? Why not?

I can't figure out whether to enable trim or not. Anyone know if TRIM has any downsides?

I don't know why TRIM would have any downsides. It's supposed to keep the drive running at optimum levels right?

There are no known down side to speak of, but Sandforce is already so good at garbage collection that you could consider doing without TRIM until what most likely will be an Apple official release under Lion.
