Just got the same shipping notice . I ordered on 3/11 at 1:43 PDT.
I wonder how accurate Fed Ex shipping estimates from china are. My cover shipped on 3/17 and is suppose to be here on 3/23 also.

Mine is coming to PA too... it would have been nice if they could have thrown mine on the plane with yours, but those ATT 64 gb 3G models seem to be on the slow boat.
 
Mine will be delivered as PROMISED TODAY!

I ordered a Black WIFI 32GB (with engraving) on 3/11/11 at 3:09a CST. Estimated shipping was 3-5 business days.... and that my friends is TODAY (5 business days). With the looks of it being stuck in China and Japan a few days, I didnt think it was gonna make it, But low and behold.... This ends IPad2 ShipmentGate for me! Looky below:

It's gonna be out for delivery today I Feel it!!!!! Im on excitement overload right now!!!:D:p;):)

Parts Shortage

Despite all this anxiety on shipping times, based on the article below which came out last night, I am glad I ordered when I did.

Still hoping to get your hands on the elusive Apple iPad 2?

The updated iPad, which went on sale last Friday, was sold out in most Apple Stores by early morning, where customers lined up often as early as 6 a.m. hoping to be first when the stores open at 9 or 10 a.m.

But with the impact of the Japanese earthquake and nuclear crisis, the iPad is going to be even harder to come by.

Thursday, Apple updated its lag time for online iPad orders from 3-4 weeks to 4-5 weeks.

In a note to investors, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster said that two iPad suppliers—Mitsubishi Gas and Toshiba, for circuit boards and flash memory, have shut down their factories temporarily.

A report from research iSuppli Thursday says that five crucial iPad components come from Japan—NAND flash from Toshiba, memory from Elpida Memory, an electronic compass from AKM Semiconductor, glass from Asahi Glass Co. and the battery from Apple's Japan division.

The uncertainity in Japan will add "days, if not weeks," to what already was a pre-existing backlog, says Richard Doherty, an analyst with the Envisioneering Group.

Doherty says that Apple, however, always has backup plans for suppliers. "This is a company that's been through volcanos in Iceland, the earlier Kobe earthquake in Japan—they always have backup plans for everything."

In Japan, many companies have closed down their factories. Whatever happens, Doherty doesn't believe Apple will be forced to hike prices for the iPad. "That's not in Apple's DNA."

However, savvy speculators have turned to websites like eBay to make a quick profit on the iPad, by offering new models at auction prices from $799 to $1,200.

Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster, in a note to investors, said the shortages will cause Apple's revenue to fall around 1% for the quarter.
 
I gotta say, this is the worst experience I've ever had with Apple. I've always been their champion. People even joke about it at work but this changes everything. I ordered a black 32GB ATT at 1:03 PST. 3-5 days to ship and here I sit on day 6 (not day 5 Apple!) and it has been "prepared for shipment" for 2 days! And all I get from Apple reps are excuses. It's just day5, it's gotta clear customs, yada yada yada. Bottom line is this should have shipped already and now I don't even want the thing I'm so disappointed.

I think this may be Apple's "shark jumping" moment for me.

I was told by FedEx that they don't deliver on Saturdays (unless shipping company requests it) but they do still transport to hubs and FedEx facilities on Saturdays. The rep told me if I see it scanned to my local facility I can call and ask if they can hold it there and pick it up Saturday. If I see it scanned in I am going to try to call in and do that - I've never heard that before so I don't know if it is true, but it is worth a shot if it gets close to home sometime Saturday.

I'll try that then. Or just go straight to the local facility. I really needed this gadget to add the spiff in my business presentation next week. Sigh. Thx for the advice :D

There is no such thing as priority shipping on these. Apple will tell you that, but they all move as fast as they can move them and deliver on your scheduled date. They just tell you that to pacify you, but it doesn't change a thing.

Really? You're going to post this same crap again? Read my original response to this claim of yours.


BTW, many of the iPads, such as mine, looked like they were sitting somewhere for quite some time. While you ignorantly accused Apple of "holding them" somewhere, they were actually loaded on a nonstop flight from Asia to Memphis. Which hey, what do you know, that flight takes 12-15 hours! The scanning just wasn't up to date until the plane landed in Memphis last night. So unless you have some facts, stop making BS comments like this.
 
Fedex

Just spoke to fedex. They said even if my package gets there to the facility on a saturday, they cant give it to me because they dont open freight containers from international on a saturday at all. (So they're obviously not going to open the package just to find my ipad). So hopefully it arrives there tonight, if not I'll even deal with the weekend so that I can pick it up Monday. They say, however, that usually the day of your delivery is the day they are opening the frieght container.
