Mine is on a flight due to land an hour away from me in about 3 hours. I called fed ex and asked if it would be delivered on Saturday or if I could go pick it up. He said "It hasnt' even landed yet, and it isn't supposed to be delivered until Monday morning, so they won't even unpack it until Sunday night." At least it will be here and waiting.

Mine is probably sitting next to yours somewhere. I live right across the river from there; it seems strange that I have to wait til Tuesday for them to deliver it not more than 5 miles away from there. Hoping I can pick it up tomorrow.

From what I've heard through scattered posts in this thread:
A - you can't have them hold it at a facility
B - because of A, you can't pick it up until a delivery attempt as been made
C - Early in the week, a lot of the fed ex routes are really long, which means you can't even pick up the package the same day of the delivery (though this isnt always true)
And worst of all: D - a lot of posts have said that there is no movement of internationally shipped packages on weekends.
Again, I hope these are all wrong, but it seems like they aren't.
So close, yet so far away. This shall be a long weekend .

Well - I didn't get an update it landed in Indianapolis - which means headed to Portland! It's a good thing I have a busy weekend - hopefully it can keep my mind occupied and off of my poor iPad that will be sitting in the sorting facility until Monday morning
I hear ya. I got the same model. Ordered at 1:07am PST. It went "Prepared for Shipment" and sat there like that for 4 days. Just barely shipped last night (the 17th). I definitely was hoping to have it by now.
so mine is still stuck in Japan even though it was ordered before 1 and other people who ordered half an hour later have theirs or at least have movement in theirs. Really lovely.

I am pretty sure after this they go to shanghai then memphis based on someone who was researching this stuff and I am so bummed. There are people who ordered hours after me that will get theres before me or at the same time as me. My hubby and I were up all night that night between this order, the baby and him having to get up for work at 430.
I know that I have no reason to complain. I really am lucky and if I get it by the 22nd then they carried their side of the bargain but boohoo I am being a baby right now

I called and provided feedback to Apple about using only a single shipping carrier for a launch this size and they did not offer anything for free. They basically expressed their sympathy but of course pointed out that the order was estimated to deliver between the 18th and 25th when the order was placed. I did not press it because the fact of the matter is that she was correct about the quoted estimate upon placing the order. I don't deserve anything for free, but if they were volunteering free cases to increase "good will", then I would be glad to have my Smart Cover for free.
While I had them on the phone I took the opportunity to point out a few things to them:
1) If actual orders begin on March 11th, then that should not mean 3-5 days for shipping, otherwise it seems to indicate that these are more-or-less 3-5 day pre-orders.
2) They should prioritize orders in the sequence they were received which does not really seem to be the case as many had their iPad 2's shipped and delivered before those who ordered online before them.
3) They should be rushing to fill online orders taken during the "3-5 day shipping" window before restocking their retail stores. Once they increased the delivery time that essentially says "we are out of our online stock allocation" -- I get that, but it seems their "online stock" was allocated but took a back seat to shipping prioritization to their retail store shipments.
Incidentally, I called FedEx and they indicated that Apple chose to use "International Economy" shipping which is their slowest shipping option for international orders (I wonder if they use the same for their retail store shipments). I also don't know if they usually use that or not -- but certainly "International Economy" is much slower when FedEx lacks the capacity to handle that many shipments.
Anyway, it looks like that while everything was suppose to arrive on the 22nd (according to FedEx) that the iPad 2 is the only thing that is still held up in China and now Japan -- everything else I ordered was delivered.
Frustrating, but I must learn patience.
Dont use the scan time thinking that is an aircraft departure time. Its either A) the time it was actually scanned, or B) uploaded into the computer. It depends on if FedEx uses RF scanners, those happen real time. But if the scanner is taken to a computer then uploaded, it is about 5-15 minutes after it was actually scanned. My guess, is they use RF (radio frequency) scanners though. The package could be on a flight any time after that time though. Usually, from their hub in Memphis, it will be sent to a large airport near you where it is then transferred to a distribution center and placed on a truck.
Well said, worth requoting here. Apparently a bunch of people on this thread don't understand this. I have heard the word "nightmare", "clusterf@#k", and other very end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it type terms used. And we still are not to the end of the window where Apple expected these to be delivered. If I were Apple reading this forum, I would extend that window waaaaay out on the next launch because of the unrealistic expectations noted here.
Where in Oregon are you? I called FedEx earlier today and they told me that if it came in tomorrow, there wasn't Sat delivery for this type of shipping, but I could go down there and pick it up at my local FedEx depot in Roseburg!
Your order should be in Memphis by tomorrow afternoon and in your hands on Monday...Tuesday at the latest.
