Does FedEx let you pickup before it's delivered?

A pallet of iPads, waiting in Japan...

so mine is still stuck in Japan even though it was ordered before 1 and other people who ordered half an hour later have theirs or at least have movement in theirs. Really lovely.

I am pretty sure after this they go to shanghai then memphis based on someone who was researching this stuff and I am so bummed. There are people who ordered hours after me that will get theres before me or at the same time as me. My hubby and I were up all night that night between this order, the baby and him having to get up for work at 430.

I know that I have no reason to complain. I really am lucky and if I get it by the 22nd then they carried their side of the bargain but boohoo I am being a baby right now

Do we all have the same Estimated delivery date of the 22nd? I called fedex today and they said that there have been some delays, and it might still come by the 22nd.

While it may have shipped before the window, it still had a prep to ship time. That is the point here.

And even with those waiting times, did they overshoot your promised ship time? No. Sure, it annoyed you bc you wanted it and it was taking forever.

It is completely nuts. There can't honestly be anyone out there that disagrees after ignoring the "I WANT MY IPAD"-itis and thinking about it logically.

People were calling and complaining to customer service about the ipad taking too long to go to prepare to ship.

They need to shut up and wait. If it doesnt ship inside the promised window, THEN you can complain.

Not to worry, the karma police will come back and kick these people in the arse. Nevertheless, after bitching to customer service reps to get something for free, their unprotected iPad will drop to a floor and shatter. They will return to these forums and claim how Apple screwed up this launch while they track each mile of their next Ipad's journey across the pacific.

They aren't just giving things to people who complain. I had called twice, once because my order history completely vanished for an hour making it look like I had never placed an order and another time because I saw they refunded me for a cover - that they shouldn't have (two were sent to me I only ordered one, we returned one and the one I kept got taken off my bill - I wanted to make sure they weren't expecting 2 back).

Both times the CS reps thanked me for my understanding and kindness and gave me free things as a thank you (probably for not screaming at them asking where my order was). The first time was a wireless keyboard and the second time the refunded the price of my iPad 2 dock.

The CS rep I was talking to when I called in about the error in credit they made on my account, were just chatting and she told me that Apple was no where near prepared for the volume of orders that came in and they were backordered almost from the start - especially on certain models (I think we all already knew that). But it was just nice to hear someone finally say it.

That's cool to know, thanks. I'm excited to get it, but I know that getting upset because it isn't moving isn't going to get it here any faster... but it is hard to be patient, I've been waiting for this since the first one was just a rumor. Apparently I ordered a very popular model and the almost instant back-order was the cause for such delays. If they had just said that upfront I don't think that people would have been as irritated (they would still have not been happy, but I think there would have been less over all frustration). Here's hoping I wake up to a Memphis update tomorrow! Thanks again for the glimmer of hope it is actually headed towards the US.

My delivery date hasn't moved up, it's still the 22nd. But I'm sure they'll deliver it on the 21st. They delivered my camera connection kit a day early and my smart cover, too. As of 5:14pm today my iPad is in town, so looks like it'll be delivered on Monday, that's also a day early.

I called and provided feedback to Apple about using only a single shipping carrier for a launch this size and they did not offer anything for free. They basically expressed their sympathy but of course pointed out that the order was estimated to deliver between the 18th and 25th when the order was placed. I did not press it because the fact of the matter is that she was correct about the quoted estimate upon placing the order. I don't deserve anything for free, but if they were volunteering free cases to increase "good will", then I would be glad to have my Smart Cover for free.

While I had them on the phone I took the opportunity to point out a few things to them:

1) If actual orders begin on March 11th, then that should not mean 3-5 days for shipping, otherwise it seems to indicate that these are more-or-less 3-5 day pre-orders.

2) They should prioritize orders in the sequence they were received which does not really seem to be the case as many had their iPad 2's shipped and delivered before those who ordered online before them.

3) They should be rushing to fill online orders taken during the "3-5 day shipping" window before restocking their retail stores. Once they increased the delivery time that essentially says "we are out of our online stock allocation" -- I get that, but it seems their "online stock" was allocated but took a back seat to shipping prioritization to their retail store shipments.

Incidentally, I called FedEx and they indicated that Apple chose to use "International Economy" shipping which is their slowest shipping option for international orders (I wonder if they use the same for their retail store shipments). I also don't know if they usually use that or not -- but certainly "International Economy" is much slower when FedEx lacks the capacity to handle that many shipments.

Anyway, it looks like that while everything was suppose to arrive on the 22nd (according to FedEx) that the iPad 2 is the only thing that is still held up in China and now Japan -- everything else I ordered was delivered.

Frustrating, but I must learn patience.

My iPad is oh so very close. It just reached the sort facility in Sacramento (where I live) and it was shipped from China on Wednesday. But I called and it's still set to to reach me on Tuesday . I'm going to try and call tomorrow to see if I can pick it up from the Fedex facility.

My cover showed up a day early but the FedEx date never changed. I hope the same is true of the iPad, it's scheduled for Wednesday but I wouldn't be upset if it showed up on Tuesday.

Where in Oregon are you? I called FedEx earlier today and they told me that if it came in tomorrow, there wasn't Sat delivery for this type of shipping, but I could go down there and pick it up at my local FedEx depot in Roseburg!

I hope mine is shipped directly to Indy! I live in Indianapolis, so it would make sense. I bet it ends up being shipped to Memphis.

The rep I talked to earlier said that they were back-ordered almost from the get go. Hopefully next time they will take pre-orders and not worry about the lines at the stores making good press - they can run with the record number pre-order sales and know they have enough stock to meet the demand.
