Where in Oregon are you? I called FedEx earlier today and they told me that if it came in tomorrow, there wasn't Sat delivery for this type of shipping, but I could go down there and pick it up at my local FedEx depot in Roseburg!

Really?? I am in Salem - I didn't talk to a Salem person- I couldn't find a number besides the general number. Did you talk to a local Fed ex person? From what I have read - it seems like Apple specifically said that Fed ex has to try to deliver once before things could be picked up at the office, and even on the actual fed ex website my tracking says that I am not able to ask for a hold. But hey, it would be worth a try right?

I talked to some Phillipino lady, probably in Manilla.. :/ I should try to get my local office... Ill let you know if I find anything out.

Wow...that would be pretty cool. What area did you call? Your local office, or an 800 number?
I'm in Portland and would love it if I was able to pick it up in person tomorrow instead of waiting till Monday.

1) If actual orders begin on March 11th, then that should not mean 3-5 days for shipping, otherwise it seems to indicate that these are more-or-less 3-5 day pre-orders.

Come on now - a 3-5 day pre-order?

Everything you buy online as a 3-5 day shipping time (meaning time to prep before it ships). They need time to process an order, pack it and organize logistics to send it out.

Literally everything.

People are being way overdramatic about the shipping times. Its not like apple changed it after you ordered: they said 3-5 to ship and an estimated arrival time - of which they have beaten on countless occasions.

I love the products and I've been following mine on here too, but give me a break. You ordered a product (you meaning everyone generically) and it gave you a time frame. You agreed to the time frame when you placed the order.

They have not missed any of the time frames and have beaten them on a high number of cases.

This obviously isn't all directed at the quoted post, but its an issue that is getting to be a big deal here when it shouldnt be

Oh NO! You have to wait a little longer!!! Shame on apple, you should call CS and complain like the others and ask for a free smartcover due to the massive inconvenience!!!

If Apple's made the choice to give away free covers, that's their business. I'm not making an immoral decision by taking advantage of that offer.

Besides, we all know those covers aren't worth anywhere near the $39/$69 they're charging; those things are almost pure profit. That's why Apple took almost no financial hit by giving away all those free iPhone 4 cases last year that had been selling for $29 a pop.

I called the same # again and the lady barely knew her own name, let alone what I was asking....so I guess we might have a wait and see situation here. I still can't find a local number... :(

The guy I talked to seem incredulous I was asking about a shipment that hadn't been sent to the facility yet. I figure I will wait until it shows up in Salem (hopefully by tomorrow morning) and then maybe try calling again. Maybe that would make the question less confusing (eye roll)

I love how Fedex intentionally screws with the consumer on its tracking site. Even though they've known for more than 24 hours that my package wasn't going to be delivered, it still happily proclaimed "ON SCHEDULE" and "delivery by March 18 at 4:30 pm" right up until 4:30 pm.

Now it merely says "IN TRANSIT" and that delivery time? It's literally disappeared. Just a blank spot where it used to be.

Bite me, Fedex.

I hear ya. I got the same model. Ordered at 1:07am PST. It went "Prepared for Shipment" and sat there like that for 4 days. Just barely shipped last night (the 17th). I definitely was hoping to have it by now.

+1. Same model same order time frame.
So is it pointless for me to keep checking over the weekend - will our iPads be in Lantau Island until Monday at least or is there a chance they might actually ship to Anchorage over the weekend? Even though Apple told me it would be shipped Priority - FedEx says "International Economy" which suggests nothing is going to happen this weekend. I'm hoping that when it gets to Anchorage, it gets individually scanned and the Priority kicks in at that point. Then perhaps my iPad can find a more or less direct flight to Washington DC, or not if things continue as they have. I can't remember any other product launch that went like this one has, and I'm very puzzled.

Thank you. Well said.

As a side note. Those orders that are bypassing Anchorage and taking the non-stops from Asia to Memphis are cutting out a good solid day. I am sure FedEx is trying to clear the backlog.

No, everything does not have a 3-5 day shipping time

I don't want to seem argumentative but no, everything doesn't. My iPad cover had a 1-2 day shipping time; OK it took 5 days after that to get to me today - but my iPad took 3 days to enter "prepared for shipment" status, then 80 hours before it "shipped" missed the FedEx cut off, was in Shenzhen for 24 hours and Lantau Island for 24 and I understand may be there all weekend. I've had a lot of experience with Apple shipping and "fast free shipping" has previously been just that. I hope this product launch is "unique." Something must have gone awry in their order system.

I'm in the 5-7 shipping day camp. Credit card available balance was decreased at time of order for the cover and adapter, but not the iPad. Followed the tracking and received both items yesterday. Just now noticed my card available balance decreased by the amount of the iPad. Still in "not yet shipped" mode, but there's some progress at least.

Delivery date estimate Mar 22-29.

Yippee looks like mine is finally leaving Alaska. Departed Fedex location at 3:38 pm. Looking for flights on flightaware and there is nothing at that time only 1 to Memphis at 4:45 pm and 1 to Oakland at 5 pm. The only thing that remotely is close is a UPS plane at 4:38 to Ontario. Anyone think that with all the backlog they are handing them off for some help?????

I can't wrap my brain around their system? I'm pretty sure my Ipad2 will be in Oakland soon (about an hour from my house) and I'm not supposed to get it until Tuesday. It takes 4 days to get from China to Memphis and another 4 days to get from Oakland to my city?

In Portland!

2011-03-18 17:56:00 Arrived at FedEx Ramp PORTLAND, OR

Well, it is here in Oregon - at least I know I will for sure get it on time, and since it is by 10:30AM on Monday, I guess I have to stop complaining and worrying. Let me know if anyone is able to pick up their's at the local office on Saturday - I may have to try it too.

While it may have shipped before the window, it still had a prep to ship time. That is the point here.

And even with those waiting times, did they overshoot your promised ship time? No. Sure, it annoyed you bc you wanted it and it was taking forever.

----

people are just watching every inch of these plane routes wondering why pilots need to sleep, or why warehouses aren't sorting and releasing 24/7

It is completely nuts. There can't honestly be anyone out there that disagrees after ignoring the "I WANT MY IPAD"-itis and thinking about it logically.

People were calling and complaining to customer service about the ipad taking too long to go to prepare to ship.

They need to shut up and wait. If it doesnt ship inside the promised window, THEN you can complain.
