Wonder if there will be another flight from NJ to the Twin Cities (Mpls/ST.PAUL) tonight yet/early am for delivery tomorrow. I can only hope

Looks like ours have been pretty much on the same path. The funny thing is, when I first got my notice, it said the expected delivery date was 3/25, and then changed to 3/29 later. I half expected it to spend 4+ days on Lantau Island, and then, BOOM, it was in Alaska. We'll see it if hangs up there or continues to book it home. ;)

I am still hoping that it is not lost and they are just using it as an excuse because they couldn't get it to me on time. My status page is now blank where the estimated delivery date should be. :(
Gonna wait and see what happens tomorrow.
I also have a smart cover that is due to be delivered tomorrow. We'll see what happens to that as well!

That flight just left ( FDX86)....

You might check again the flight to Oakland didn't leave until 5:39 AKDT about 15 minutes ago.

I think it is random. I think they just load them up on planes in huge shipping containers and once they get to Alaska, they just randomly send them out to Memphis, Newark, or Oakland or wherever else to be overnighted to their destination.

I think I remember someone who lived in Alaska saying that their iPad went from Alaska to Memphis back to Alaska.

I think they just randomly load the planes in Alaska to try and get them out as quick ad possible.

Actually, Fedex is almost certainly routing packages using a sophisticated form of linear programming combined with cost-minimization to identify optimal routing within a bounded mathematical space. Random routing would risk an enormous waste of corporate resources, making the company less profitable and also less competitive with UPS, the USPS, and regional and local courier services.

Within applied mathematics and operations research, there is a well-established class of techniques surrounding the "transportation problem." These techniques resolve the logistics of complex routing problems. The optimal solution from a macro standpoint, however, may not seem to make much sense to an individual end-user.
