I thought I'd get lucky on Friday by heading to Target after work. I can't say I've ever felt "lucky" to go to Target on Friday afternoon before. As the afternoon progressed, it became clear that lines were forming everywhere. And iPads were selling out. I considered leaving work early but it was a busy day. So, I did an online order at around 6pm EST.

Today, my green Smart Cover is already here! (No doubt these things are already in the US.) My black/64/wifi Jesus-tablet has an expected ship date of April 1st. And yes, I believe April 1st is a joke and Phil Schiller will ship my sexPad soon so I can play angry birds HD and ignore my loved ones in style.

Have a nice day.

Not to burst anyone's bubble, but I think I read that the covers were shipping from somewhere within the continental U.S. No real evidence, though. I hope you're right.

Some of them have gotta be shipped within the states. I actually received my Navy Blue leather smart cover on Saturday March 12 after ordering on 1:05am PST 3/11. Definitely didn't come from China. I was quite surprised by that (and hopeful that my ipad would arrive soon as well). As of today, ipad still not shipped though. Still crossing fingers for a change today.

still nothing on a 32gb att 3g black ordered when website went live.

Anyone else have a 32gb black att shipped yet from apple?

Same specs here Cosworth! Seemed like I was the only one with this spec but glad to know I have a twin out there. Still "not yet shipped" though.

Sounds like they made and shipped to the US a bunch of the green covers but not the orange. My wife's green cover already shipped from TN, while my orange cover shipped from China. Guess which one will arrive first? :)

Nope! I ordred 32GB Black AT&T at 12:44 PST and it still says "not yet shipped"!

Same spec here...but I ordered two since I trust Apple about as much as North Korea...my apple.com ordered version is still 'not yet shipped', while the one I ordered from att.com at the same time not only has shipped by free 2nd day air on Friday, but is actually on the truck for delivery today. :) :) :)

@ JohnnyBravo, i ordered a 32gb black verizon when site went live and still "not yet shipped". Guess getting it this week is looking less likely. I did just call Apple customer care, and they have no idea why people who ordered later are getting shipped sooner.

My black leather smartcover, did ship yesterday, but no update with tracking number.

For me, it is almost to point, where I'm over it. If for some reason, Apple cancelled my order, I'd be like ok, I'll just wait a few months and pick one up at my leisure.

I'm convinced my 64 gb ATT black ipad will not ship until the 5th business day. It's just my luck. Not once have I ever been in the first batch of shipments. For anything with Apple. Wonder how much my blood pressure will spike this week.

3-4 weeks, really?

Has anyone that got the 3-4 shipping estimate had their order shipped?

As they put that estimate on every model, I'm just wondering if they are really short on every model or once they start to asses their stock this week there may be some of the models that can be shipped earlier. I ordered a White 64gb Verizon model, which I've heard was the least popular in the retail stores.

I've never ordered online from Apple before so I'm not sure if they have a history of being 'safe' on their estimates and sometimes shipping sooner, anyone had experience with this?

Starting to think that will be the case for me too. Frusterating for sure. But, like I posted earlier, I'm about over it. The reason I woke up at the crack of dawn to order it was because I wanted ASAP, but if I'm not going to get it until late next week. I should have just waited indefinitely.

I had no other option but to order from Apple, I have $350 in Apple giftcards.

What's the status to show that it's in the air?

My FedEx.com status hasn't been updated from "In Transit-Lantua Island", but the Yahoo small business fed ex tracking link that gives more detailed scan info has a slew of updates say:

2011-03-14 20:43:00 Left FedEx Ramp LANTAU ISLAND,
2011-03-14 20:43:00 Left FedEx Ramp CHEK LAP KOK,

It's a slew as they're repeated several times at the same time stamp for some reason.\

Someone posted this site earlier; it's a more detailed summary of what's going on.

http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/r-packageTracker-s-fedex

Through Fedex's site, I see my package still on Lantau Island. This site says it has "left the Fedex ramp".

You posted while I was typing up the above, but yeah that's exactly what I see on the two sites for mine as well.

The lack of correlation between order times shipments, I'm guessing, is because apple didn't have a single ipad ready to be shipped on the 11th. I'm guessing as soon as they come off the line they are shipped out which can take awhile and seem almost random considering there are 18 different sku's apple is shipping out. Then on top of that there are still ipad's being made to be shipped out to retail stores rather than heading straight to consumers hands who ordered online. While fulfilling demand for online orders apple is also trying to fulfill demand for Walmart, Bestbuy, Target, Verizon, ATT, and physical apple stores. Considering the number of sku's/models and the number of retail obligations apple has. I doubt apple is putting a first class priority on anything having to do with online orders.

I remember when the xbox 360 came out, people would be huddeled around spots in circuit city where they predicted new boxes would appear. Apple is trying to create that same marketing strategy of consumers huddeled around display's, while also trying to guarantee the patient their own. Too bad they didn't give us guys ordering online a heads-up.

Your tracking also says its still in HK? I figured it probably won't get updated until it goes through Alaska
mine shows the same.

I called the rep in special services.

Oh, agreed. I'm sure mine will ship at the last possible hour on the 5th business day, just in time for the weekend where it will not move all darn weekend only to sit in that damn island in Hong Kong until it can leave the follwing monday only to be on a plane that has mechanical problems, crashes in the ocean and ends up on an island with Tom Hanks for 5 years.

Ordered around 7:30am ET on the 11th.

16GB WiFi Black, with an expected shipping date within 5-7 business days: not yet shipped.

Gray poly cover: received tracking number on Saturday, but the package is not tracking, with an expected delivery date of the 16th.

Feel like my order may be shafted :(

This is my first time (It's been so long since I could say that) ordering a product through Apple on a realease day. I've seen in the past that they do pre-orders. Does anyone know why they didn't do it this time?
The whole system seems a bit chaotic and incredibly frustrating.

Looks like supply. They wanted to have a significant amount in stores on day 1 and they couldn't do that if delivering those to preorders. Instead for us folks who ordered day 1, we get the 2nd rounds of shipments. The only alternative was for Apple to delay the launch but I suspect they wanted to nip the idea that Xoom and more important the Honeycomb 3.0 operating system on the new Android tablets was any better that what they had coming.

Interesting find. The main FX site says it's in Lantau, but the one you gave me says it left the ramp there. I would imagine it'll be in the air now or very soon, and then get scanned when it gets on US soil. I think I remember this happening with my previous iPad order too.... as in it didn't update til it got over here.

Just called FedEx Int'l to see what my iPad 2 was up to since it still says "LANTAU ISLAND HK" the lady at FedEx said it is in the air..so
Hopefully it will get to Alaska, then Memphis, then South Carolina!!

But When I check Flightaware.com for FedEx Flights from HK to Alaska, I don't see any...Hopefully Ill get an update soon and my smart cover will get updated soon too

still nothing on a 32gb att 3g black ordered when website went live.

Anyone else have a 32gb black att shipped yet from apple?

I have the same config and it still says "Not yet shipped." I understand I'm still within the 3-5 business days range, but still. I'm just impatient. :)
