I played it on my vanilla PS4 (matte revision from Uncharted Collection bundle) in the bedroom on a Samsung LEDTV and it's still a lovely experience graphically with a consistently stable 30fps, same as on the PS4 Pro. It's not as amazing as it is on a 4K HDR of course, but easily one of the best looking titles on the PS4, better in 1080p than Uncharted 4 (not surprising given how long ago that title came out) but still that level of fidelity and polish. It's clear that loads of love went into this game and Guerilla wanted even those with older hardware to have a memorable experience.

Thanks.

Is there a lot of "story"? I hate games that try to have "a story".

Quick story snips (like DOOM) I don't mind. I tried Skyrim (I was able to go fix a sandwich and return and they're STILL talking ) - forget that...

If games with a narrative bother you, then you should definitely avoid Horizon. Myself, I can go either way. I definitely appreciate a game with a well-built story, and I also enjoy games with no narrative frills that are built on strict implicit characterisation and strong mechanics, like Doom, which I personally considered one of the best games of the 2010s and the first FPS to evoke the same experience as the originals since, well, the originals..

I liked Doom for the PS4. It played so smooth. Although, the going from arena to arena was redundant. The selection of Guns was awesome and it was innovative how they served two purposes.

Just ordered Splinter Cell: Double Agent, Splinter Cell: Conviction, and Splinter Cell: Blacklist for Xbox 360. GameStop buy 2 get 1 free deal this weekend. I'm planning to eventually play through all of the Splinter Cell games. I have the original for PS2. Back then I loved it and played through it several times. I don't know what happened but I never kept up with the series after that 1st game. I did pick up (and still have) Pandora Tomorrow at a garage sale years later. I remember playing through it and enjoying it but I think, if I remember right, it was rather short. Now all I'll need is a copy of Chaos Theory and I can start a Splinter Cell marathon!

And:
I purchased Yoshi's Story (N64) for the Wii U VC. I played this when it first came out. A nostalgia purchase, lol. I'll save playing this game for after I finish a long, stressful game (probably Dark Souls 3) when I just want to play a simple, relaxing game. :D

Clash of the Open World Action RPG Titans.

I enjoy them both, though, for my own sensibilities, I consider Horizon to be the superior game. BotW is an very good game as well, though I'm not certain yet how much of that is because of what is in it (actual content) versus what's not (the same basic story that has been rehashed in virtually every entry since OoT). I will say that one couldn't ask for a final bon voyage for the Wii U.

I think both games offer similarities in terms of an open world style and have similar combat techniques/weapons.

However, neither one of them actually competes with each other, because of the different platforms with What the gamer actually prefers out of the game itself.

One of the games obviously offers the latest in 4K/checkerboard, and the other one offers a history of more than 20 years ago that most grew up with. Both have different appeals to different gamers. Both games will be successful in their own rights.

Ironically, being they both offer similarities in terms of gameplay style, it will be interesting to see how they contend for being nominations for game of the year.

FYI for anyone in my position, but Target starts their Buy 2, get 1 free sale today. Comes out to about $35 per game if you use your RedCard.

I am going to get Zelda (Switch coming Tuesday), Horizon Zero Dawn, and then torn on the last one. Hmmmmmm

Never mind Switch games are excluded

I'm trying to decide between Battlefield 1 for 35€ and Rise of the Tomb Raider for 29€, both on discount now in the PS Store.

I'll end up getting both in the end but right now just one, and it might be Tomb Raider, since I already have too many shooters.

Should I buy it now or wait even more for the price to come down?

But it now, at most any future deal might only save you a further €4. I can't see it dropping below €25. Plus ... It's a fricking amazing game.

Most games I want to play have been on discount since I got my PS4 two months ago. So lucky!

Oh, and my gf also gifted me 'Until Dawn' this week for my birthday, so I'm all set for a while now I've got 12 games to play right now, 13 with Tomb Raider. I'm having so much fun with all of them I keep buying new ones when a new sale appears

I'm anxiously waiting to see if this Wednesday a new sale appears.

Until Dawn was a really good game. I enjoyed it and graphically it's gorgeous. One of the better PS4 exclusive's out there. It's an intense game, but somewhat short in length.

Pre-ordered Mass Effect Andromeda. So looking forward to that game. The mass effect series are my all time favorites.

Agreed. I have Watched quite a few demo's. This game looks incredible with combat, exploration and story line. Mass Effect fans have been waiting a long time. Andromeda is one of the games that I believe will be nominated for game of the year. March 21 is quickly approaching.

I have all of them in my backlog due to EA Access but will never complete those in time for this one so I assume pointless as it continues the story?

I picked up BoTW (Wii-U). We'll see how long I hang with it, as once the puzzles get really hard I usually end up putting these sort of games down never to return.

While I know I will enjoy Horizon Zero Dawn more, I decided to play BoTW first since you know that game will never go on sale. Horizon Zero Dawn will drop in price in a month or two.

Damn, it's a good time to be an RPG fan. Nioh, BoTW, Horizon Zero Dawn, Mass Effect Andromeda, Red Dead Redemption 2...

Yeah too many big games over the space of a month ....

I want them all .... But reality is I don't actually have the time to play any of them.

The paradox of being an adult gamer ....

Picked up a PS4 Pro to compliment the new living room TV. Currently playing Horizon, which is fantastic.

The Pro came with Dishonored 2 and CoD: Infinite Warfare which got shuffled into backlog of games I'll have to get around too someday.

That's a nice bundle the PS4 Pro came with. Dishonored 2 was a great game. Really enjoyed it. Enjoy Horizon.

Yeah, it was just good enough of a deal ($399, no tax, free shipping) to get me to pull the trigger on a Pro.

I have the remastered Dishonored for PS4. I'm only through the first area, but I like the art direction and story so far. I've heard nothing but great things about Dishonored 2 so I'm looking forward to it.

A little something arrived in the post today. It was a fluke wait list opening a mere week ago if that can be believed.

Nier and Bloodbourne are the sole (but extremely tempting) reaons I somewhat regret not having a PS4. And maybe not being able to play RE7 in VR.

To join the 200 + Skylanders from Giants/Swap Force/Trap Masters & Superchargers - I decided to go big on Switch Imaginators on Switch & PS4 ....

Such a child at heart ...

I'm just glad they are taking a break from releasing a new version this year. I have an entire cupboard dedicated to all the toys from the previous games, and as new games all offer backwards compatibility it means the 200+ figures I have in there will all work with this .... crazy stuff.

It reminds me of playing lego and transformers as a child. Myself and my eddy friend would take hours setting up all our toys and figures and then actual play time with them was the minor part.

It takes me ages to set up each of the skylandwes games, being out all my figures (and clean up afterwards) that doing so is more cathartic than playing the actual game .....
