Can be current TV shows , or older ones on DVD.
Just need something new to watch
prefer an older one that can watch the whole season at once.

Below are examples of what I like/dislike

    Shows I like :
    Lie to me
    CSI
    Angel
    MASH
    Buffy
    House
    Numb3rs
    Battlestar Galactica
    NCIS
    Blood Ties
    Dresden Files

    Shows I cannot stand :
    Friends
    Sex in the City
    Seinfeld
    Weeds
    Dexter
    Tru Blood
    Primeval
    Stargate
    The Tudors
    Bones

most of the shosw in my not like list are due to the horrible acting/hate the actors rather than bad plots.

please when you tell me new show , tell me why too :)

I know there is another thread similar to this but the OP of that one is almost opposite to what I like :p

30 Rock, The Office, Parks and Recreation.

I love these shows. Hilarious, great acting. Alec Baldwin is especially good in 30Rock. No, I don't work for NBC.

How can you not stand Dexter?!

But yeah, agreed with the above.

    *goes off mumbling about Dexter*

I have been watching the ~30 episodes of Twin Peaks on my computer. I saw the show back when it first came on in the early 90s. Let me tell you the plots, the character developments, the twists are great. What is the big surprise is the sound, the dialogue and the music. Just didn't hear it well on my old late 1970s B&W 19" TV. I liked the music so well that I bought the cds. The artist that sings is called Julee Cruise. Her cds and the dvds for Twin Peaks are available from Amazon.

Another show I recommend is Torchwood. You can wikipedia both Torchwood and Twin Peaks to learn more about them.

Kind of a cliched answer considering it's legacy, but I definitely recommend checking out the first eight seasons of The Simpsons - seasons 3 to 8 in particular if you want to see some of the best television ever made. It may just seem like a lighthearted cartoon on the outside, but during these years it packed a lot of punch in regards to the humour and the satire, definitely one of the best shows in regards to social commentary and all that.

However, avoid season 9 and beyond like the plague.

As soon as i read this thread title, i rushed to suggest Dexter. I too am unsure why you "can't stand" it. But to each his own i suppose...

Aside from Dexter, i would suggest "The Wire" and "Six Feet Under". Both are brilliant shows.

I just got into it last year and watched a full season in one day but Entourage is outstanding. The acting, cast are all great. Excellent story lines, makes me and my friends wish you had a friend like Vince. Heres the link to wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entourage_(TV_series) and its coming out on Spike TV if you dont get HBO. http://www.tvguide.com/tvshows/entourage/191498 what time its playing on TV. I am sure other posters have seen the show and think the same I do. Lloyd

    Me too.

*goes off mumbling about Dexter as well*

    Community is surprisingly good.

How about a mini-series: Band of Brothers. It's based on a true story about Easy Company's experiences fighting the Germans during WWII.

A new mini-series by the same producers, about the war with Japan in WWII is starting on HBO in March. It's called The Pacific. Im looking forward to that.

Breaking Bad- Bryon Cranston is unbelievable in this role, worth watching the show just for his work

Men of a Certain Age-New show, well written, well acted, and an enjoy to watch

I'll stick my votes in with: The Office, 30 Rock and Fringe for the more established ones. Not as well loved (but still enjoy it regularly) are 2.5 Men and How I Met Your Mother (spoiler alert: at this rate, the producers will never reveal the mother).

And I've just started getting into Better Off Ted, which is early into it's 2nd season.

    +1 on Heroes.

Whose Line is it Anyway? (both the yank and pommy versions)
    X Files.
    Mutant X.

And while not a series that comes in 'seasons',
    Iron Chef.

Other than that, pull out the original Knight Rider, and go on a nostalgic 80s mystery/sci-fi trip.

    BL.

All these posts and not one mention of The Wire?!

So yeah, The Wire. Forever. You won't need another show.

As I like these shows I'm not sure my suggestions are good for you. Did you catch Dexter from the beginning, 1st season? That might make a difference, but some people can't stomach the subject matter and I can respect that. The second season was amazing.

Tru Blood is good but not as good as the novels.
Tudors is ok, although I get sick of "me" oriented Henry. ;)

    Anyway my current picks are:
    Heroes NBC
    Lost ABC (yes Lost) ;)
Rome- HBO you'd have to rent.
Deadwood- HBO, rental. (lots of cursing)
V- ABC, about aliens among us is still holding my interest.
