Got really excited thinking that I'd be getting my 4S formfactor back. Realized that was only 3.5 =[ I miss being able to do everything with one hand

I think this will be a very popular phone, and it will hurt sales of 6s and even future iPhone7 ...

4" is perfect size !

64gb with A9 packed in a 4" phone? hit me!

Definitely. It needs to match the power button, and it just looks better as a pill anyway. Speaking of the power button, i wonder where they will place it.... It not apple like to go back to old styles. And the power button on the top of the phone is now old.

^^ I like the power button on the top. I always accidentally pushed the power button when I am using the camera.
Moments lost when that happened. Especially when you're shooting sports events.

So if Apple doesn't release the 5se do you think they would still upgrade the 5s with the A9 processor?

If Apple is smart and it starts the SE at $399 16g it will sell millions upon millions. Otherwise people will go with the 5s at $299. This is the market for this device, IMO. :apple:

I'm not so sure, depending on what this phone actually is ... if there are two phones, it could be a good test case for Apple.

Well, given todays Apple most of us are unsure of anything from Apple. I'm simply going by the "suggested" thickness of the phone. I suppose they could offer the 5s with the jack, and the SE without. I'm having difficulty trying to nail the market for this phone. Just how many 4"users want "almost all the features of a 6s?" How many are looking for a "new, nice" 4" phone they don't use for video, tons of web surfing, or any real amount of multimedia? I'm going to stick with it having a 3.5mm jack. :apple:

if its going to look like this, with an A9 and the 12MP Camera, it could easily replace my iPhone 6

I still think it will looks like iPod Touch 6G, just a bit thicker for the extra battery and cellular chip.

If the rumors are correct, the only feature will be missing is the 3D Touch, that personally i don't care about, so all n' all it will be up to date phone in a smaller package. Im in for a new 4" phone aka a communication device and internet excess on the go. Just coz its not fit your consumption needs, and coz of this you need a giant phablet, it doesn't mean it wont be useful for many others, thats the beauty of choices...

This is quite off topic... but why oh why does Apple insist on putting the camera on the corner? It's so easy to cover it. Nearly every other smartphone has moved to put it in the middle. Does Apple really care that much about being "different"?

Look at the inside of an iPhone, what benefit is there to reconfiguring the entire layout just to move the camera to the center?

Protruding camera?!? Not getting it!

Or Apple finally gets that 95% of iPhone users use a case. Typically I haven't with my 3G, 4, and 5, but my 6+ is the first device that I knew was required to get a case. Due to size, slippery material, and the protruding camera. Honestly, after being a strong naked advocate I've just kind of grown to accept that case is the way to go now.

Considering how every re-design typically requires pretty significant re-arranging inside anyway, I don't see how moving the camera around would be a big deal. Especially when it would be objectively a superior experience due to minimized finger blocking and providing a more centered lens (not to mention making the iPhone more symmetrical).

If you look at the internals of iPhones, historically they consist of a battery one one side, a logic board on the other, and then the components for the earpiece, speaker, ambient light sensor, and camera in the upper portion of the phone. I'm not sure there is enough to be gained by moving the camera to justify re-engineering each of these other parts and how they connect to each other.

I'm not against it, but it seems of more of a cosmetic thing over functionality.

Man that looks really nice. My wife uses a 5S, I don't know if she is going to like inheriting my 6, but the SE mockup would be perfect for her. Too bad though, I get the 7 and she gets all my tech hand me downs ;)

It depends on the alternative solution.
Removing the clutch pedal could be a stroke of genius (if you replace with auto transmission), or a stroke of idiocy (if you replace it with something clunky).

For some of us, there's no replacing the clutch pedal.:p

But seriously, removing the headphone port would be a stroke of idiocy in itself.
[doublepost=1457017675][/doublepost]I like the mockup more than the current iPhone, but I think it'd be better if the back was all glass (like the iPhone 4, Sony's Experia and Sammy's current Galaxy phones).

There's no saving the phone if dropped anyway, so make it as sexy as possible. ;)

Also, I think the ring around the camera lens gives the phone some class; I don't like the simple hole-in-aluminum look.

-2 cents

P.D. An iPhone with a dedicated "back" button or expandable storage would almost bring me back (but alas...we know it ain't happenin'). I miss my all-Apple ecosystem (I'm mildly OCD) but I'd have to give up a lot to come back to iOS. :(

No problem. You just get no phone reception.
Ah. Didn't know of it's purpose. It's just that other flagship smartphones don't have those. Disregard.

And I just realized that my post sounded kinda dirty lol.

The best design by far that has been for iPhone.

Will it turn into reality?

Apple always had the camera at the corner. The other companies wanted to be different and put it in the middle.

I'm looking forward to comparing the two in person. I'm somewhat concerned the iPhone Se may be too small. I opted for the plus because I wanted a larger phone and while I now think its too unwieldy, the initial need is still there. I'll see what apple does before deciding what to do

I bet the low end iPhone 6 does not have an audio jack to save cost.

That's backward. The cheaper the phone, the fewer premium 6s features they squeeze into the 5s, leaving more room for the negligible cost of the headphone jack. And the headphone jack is going to be used by more entry-level customers who cannot afford relatively expensive Bluetooth headphones, and Lightning headphones, so it's unlikely Apple would remove it at this juncture for an entry level phone, thus making it less attractive to its target audience.

This is true. I'm still rocking my iPhone 5 purchased in December 2012. The iPhone SE needs to have 2GB of RAM. Visually I'd like it to look like an iPhone 6 nano, pill shaped buttons, antenna bands and all. If it comes with an A8 that's acceptable(since it's in the appleTV and ipad mini 4 with 2GB of RAM), would appreciate the optics from at least the iPad Pro. I feel like this device should replace the iPhone 6 AND 5s in the lineup, but I realize that's wishful thinking.

Apple is not likely to pass up their opportunity to appeal to low budget Android customers by offering the cheapest 4.7" phone they make for the lowest price they currently offer. The 6 will continue to be sold at the bottom of the lineup to draw new customers.

I'm leaning toward not removing the 3.5mm Jack because they tend to save unveils of major changes like that for the flagship devices, even at their own detriment sometimes. But the issue for me, is even if this phone is still the same size as the 5s, they're potentially squeezing most of the features of the 6s into the same case, and something's got to give. That also assumes a more premium phone which is being rumored. And the benefit of the doubt I keep giving Apple is that the Jack is being removed because they need the internal space. Now, a low end phone is easier to reconcile, as fewer new features are squeezed into the case, leaving room for the Jack, which would be important for a budget phone. Less so for a premium phone, which has an affluent captive audience with a pent up demand for a 4" iPhone and would likely buy it no matter what -- which is what makes it an excellent test market.

Now a new thought just occurs to me -- maybe they've found a way to squeeze the minimal amount of features into the 5s case to both upgrade it and keep the headphone jack, with the intention of depreciating the product when the 7 comes out, to offer an iPod Touch replacement, thus keeping a cheap iPhone with headphone jack for the next 4 years, even as the 7 drops it, while the cost of wireless and lightning audio products improve in quality and drop in price.

The biggest surprise Apple could unveil would be offering a 4.4" screen in the same case dimensions of the 5s or smaller. I wouldn't mind having a bigger display, I just don't want a bigger phone. A 4s phone as thin as the 6s, with an edge to edge display, would be ideal. Since I doubt that's going to happen, and I know I'm going to have to compromise, I'll take whatever I can get.
