You know very little about photography. The pre-flash you are wanting would require way more power that the LED light could hope for on it's best day. You would need a flash bright enough to get everyone's pupils to constrict to avoid the red eye. Apple provide post processing to get rid of the red eye.
LOL! Sad you are even thinking like this. It is all about physics here and large pupil openings will reflect light from the retina and there is little that Apple can do about it even if YOU demand they do something! LOL! They could move it to the other end of the phone and it would help little to none while imaging a group of people.
Both these points would have been so much more eloquent without the first sentence.

This is exactly how all my indoor photos turn out, SO frustrating!!! Never had a problem with my iPhone 7 Plus. As its not a software problem going to see if I can swap it for iPhone 8 Plus.

Ha ha ha. That made me laugh .

Yeah better get it swapped. This is why I chose the more “boring and dated” BUT refined option of 8 plus than going for the first generation X & suffer through these unforeseen issues.

Yup, I have both the 8 Plus and iPhone X and the X always gives you the red eye effect on photos and white eyes during video recording with the led light on. The 8 Plus meanwhile doesn’t have any of these problems. I believe it’s the way the position of the Led flash is on the iPhone X. Having the flash so close in the middle between both lenses is causing some kind of weird algorithm in the way the phone captures photo and video when using the flash. I hope this is a software problem but I doubt it. I’m surprised this went unnoticed when they were testing this unit before launch.

Did you have any luck? I am having the same problem with white-eye on my videos and a Senior Apple Tech Advisory basically told me that there is nothing they can do about it because it's the nature of photography...

I don't know what to do at this point? Do I keep using the iPhone X without flash in low light to keep my kids from looking like demon seeds in all my videos? I'm truly disappointed that a phone that costs so much can have a camera this sad. I would like to trade it for an 8 Plus, but I just don't see that happening.

Talk to the manager of Apple and explain your situation they can on case by case bases provide a refund if it slightly past return date so that you can get the iPhone 8 Plus, that would be a much better option. How can you not shoot indoors with flash.

I dont know if its just my X but any photo i take in low light with flash i get horrible red eye i have tryed a 7 plus and 8 and same setting and they dont have the red eye the eyes are perfect is it a issue with the new flash placement on the X or is mine faulty

My iPhone X does the same thing in low light pictures! It ruins every picture with demon eyes. I switched from being a Samsung Note 5 user and cannot believe how horrible the camera is on Apple phones. Totally disappointed with my decision to switch companies if there is no fix for this.

But it is easily fixed on real cameras by making the flash strobe a little bit before the actual photo is taken. We don’t have that option on the iPhone X

im going to try to use a piece of tape on it as a diffuser and let u guys know what I come up with

Hello there. Just wondering if you were able to try putting the piece of tape over the lens to remedy the problem?

Thank you to everyone who posted here, y’all saved me from a $1,300 mistake. I was going to trade in my 7 plus for a X 256, but hearing about this red eye nightmare has made me hold off until the next iPhone. I would have been livid had I bought an X and had important moments ruined with red/white eye pictures.

Yeah i need to compare with another X but all the other iphones turn out perfect its so frustrating, and haha yeah they are all single
[doublepost=1520554238][/doublepost]I have the same problem!

If you take a lot of people images in dark area where the flash is used you might want to look somewhere else.

Red Eye = Bad photo. Period.

I’m not paying 1K again for an iPhone that does a horrible job with the eyes. Sometimes the red-eyes are so bad that not even editing can fix them.

What do you suggest I buy then?

I understand your frustration. I have also had a ton of photos ruined due to red eye or white eye. The X is a total disappointment for me because I thought that I was purchasing a phone that had the best camera available. But it turns out that’s not the case.

I am now contemplating getting the Product Red 8 or 8 Plus because that phone doesn’t suffer from the same problem. Who knows if Apple will fix the flash location on the 2018 X. And I have no interest in Android devices.

I have the exact same issue with my iPhone X and I HATE it. My old iPhone 7 100% didn’t do this.

Mine does not have any redeye from my low light photos. Perhaps you could try to compare yours to another if you know someone that has an iPhone X.

By any chance, are any of your friends single? /S.

My iPhone X plus is horrible in low light with flash. I was just googling to see what could be done to fix it. I just got my phone in Oct 2018
