Yeah, it doesn’t sound like Apple to have such a large gap in announcement and shipping date. However, it could be that the chip shortage is affecting production more than they thought. Still, it’s not good marketing to have such delay. You’ll be losing the momentum of hype. Better save the announcement at October or November like usual.

Yeah I think when apple decided to bring the MBP forward and the MBA being pushed back that was all due to miniLED, I am fairly confident apple intended to launch the MBP and MBA redesigns in November, but just gave in and decided to scrap miniLED in this year MBP in favour of getting M series 16” out sooner rather than later.

Seems odd that Apple would announce new systems then not start selling them for almost 6 months. That will impact sales and Apple has always been smarter than this. If Apple does not announce new computers next week, I will not be surprised.

Announcing next week would emphasize Apple's transition away from Intel and convince those developers that have not ported their software to ARM to do so asap.

I think it's gonna be similar to the new iPad launch:

WWDC announcement, late July launch

or

October announcement, late November launch.

I really doubt they will wait more than 1-2 months to launch a new laptop (after the announcement).

Apple already made that statement last year when they announced the 2 year transition. Imo it’s obvious to developers. Plus, the first Apple Silicon Macs are consumer Macs, which are selling more than the more expensive Pro models, so the writing is already obvious for developers when the M1 MacBook Air (best selling Apple laptop lineup) was released.

We’ll see in a few days.

Ah, I love WWDC time, the rumors come fast and furious and each contradicts the other.

I for one, selfishly want this to be true so Prosser is proven wrong once again and has to re-shave his eyebrows or something.

I tend to think this is true, but we will see soon enough!

Maybe they fooled all the leakers and won’t announce anything now on the MBP and instead announce a bunch of other stuff.

The report is referring to MiniLED-based laptops, so while the timeline for those might be accurate, Apple could still release non-MiniLED laptops this summer. It would be good to get these out before school starts in the fall.
I wish people would pay more attention to this.
Apple already did this with the iMac back in April, update a product design while leaving in the regular LCD.
I think that’s what we are going to see here. The MacBook Pro updated with a new design and a new processor, but retain the LCD.
and then early next year, we’ll see the mini LED version of the MacBook Pro and iMac 24

Whenever they’re released, these are going to sell out instantly. I was incredibly patient and lucky and got a PS5 and Series X at retail, wish me luck with the 16-inch!

You will see... At the WWDC 2021, they will annonuce some new intel Macs. ;)
How could they possibly spin this?!? .... after all the breathless fawning over the M1's and more than a half year after the first M1 mac was released...

I call BS… why announce these machines at WWDC, then not ship til November, they would be better off announcing them in November with immediate shipping…

So to that end I think either:

A: The MBP announced Monday will launch without miniLED with a minor refresh late this year to include miniLED with a $100 price bump

or

B: They will launch without miniLED for faster delivery, but they will have the optional upgrade of miniLED for an extra $100 but those who opt to include miniLED won’t ship until late 2021.
I agree. Apple isn’t going to announce and then make people wait months and months.

Announcing a new Intel Mac at WWDC would be completely out of character, and illogical for the future of their business.

The only product rumored to be getting a final Intel version is the Mac Pro, because it can be built to insanely high specifications that M1/M1X/M2 can’t even approach (for instance, 1 TB of RAM, which no M-series chip is likely to support for years.)

New Intel Macs at WWDC would also confuse developers and make them less likely to write code for M-series chips.

The long-rumored and highly anticipated redesigned 16-inch MacBook Pro with Apple silicon will enter its phase of mass production in the first quarter of next year, according to industry sources cited in a paywalled DigiTimes report.

According to the report, the smaller 14-inch MacBook Pro will enter "volume production" in the fourth quarter of this year, while the larger 16-inch model is aimed at the first quarter of next year. However, despite mass production for the laptops starting later in the year and next year, DigiTimes still reports that Apple will announce them in the second half of 2021.
The scenario described by DigiTimes is reminiscent of the launch of the new M1 iPad Pro. The new iPad was announced in April but didn't begin shipping until the second half of May. Even then supply continues to remains tight, with some customers having to wait until July.

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has previously noted that Apple could be planning to announce the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro as soon as early this summer. Apple will be holding its Worldwide Developers Conference on June 7, and ahead of the conference, some tenuous reports have suggested the MacBook Pros could be announced; however, those claims have yet to be backed up by reliable sources.

Nice, now i can save up a little longer without getting jealous…. 🤣

Well, there was a rumor about an updated intel mac Pro. That could be possible, as a placeholder for those Pro customers (who might want an updated Mac but not have full AppleSilicon workflow of apps). It would also give time for Apple to make a suitable Apple Silicon for the Mac Pro (which would require a lot more RAM and storage than the current solution).

$100 !? Apple isn't adding a new hardware configuration for the price of a watch band. $200 minimum.

I don’t think that any electronic manufacturer had forecasted and planned on the chip shortage that is occurring this year. I haven’t seen a comprehensive explanation of what happened, why it happened and when it will be over but even if Apples M series processors aren’t the bottleneck there are other chips that they require that can prevent their computers from being made and shipped.

I can’t do anything about it so I’m not worrying about it.

They most likely will talk about the development of the M2 chip but not give a date for the new MacBook Pro 16. Apple likes to introduce the larger machines in the fall. They start building the new machines now to build up inventory and release a new system in the fall to have enough to cover a rush of purchases.

Again people , two things

1) This is Digitimes
2) mini-led (as an option BTO) can bring your laptop to ship to you later this fall

TiBook - this exact situation occurred back in 2001 with that model
