I think it's gonna be similar to the new iPad launch:

WWDC announcement, late July launch

or

October announcement, late November launch.

I really doubt they will wait more than 1-2 months to launch a new laptop (after the announcement).

I was thinking a little teaser at WWDC, and then a release of Sept/October.

Perhaps the reference is to mini LED models not being ready until later or next year with regular LED's getting the go in the next few weeks?

WOW! gotta wait until Jan of next year to order a 16" MacBook Pro M1 Fixed.

Gives Intel Plenty of time to come out with a smoking fast chip!
That would be over two years between 16 inch MacBook Pro releases. 2015 to the 2016 redesign was a long wait. More than two full years between product refreshes though? I think that would be unprecedented for a notebook.

I think that might happen, but a release in Sept/October is a long time for that 16" to go without a refresh and for no 4 port M1 option. I think they will be available sooner but in limited numbers.

This particular article is very biased. Using wording such as “tenuous” to reference Prossers speculations. In all honesty, Gurman has changed his prediction many times. For example, he first announced the Apple silicon Mac Pro describing it as half the size of the current Mac Pro and with a similar design.

Another rumour comes out from another source, I believe this one was from Prosser, saying it will have an appearance of 3 to 4 Mac Minis stacked together. In reaction, Gurman says the design will invoke nostalgia for the G4 Cube…… and edits his original article…

They all seem tenuous and unaccountable. Let’s not pretend that one is more “accurate” than the other just because they edit their reports after new information comes out.

Seems odd that Apple would announce new systems then not start selling them for almost 6 months.
Except that's pretty much what happened with the 2013 trashcan, the 2017 iMac Pro and the 2019 Mac Pro.

Lost sales are a two-edged sword - especially when it comes to commercial users who might actually need to plan & budget ahead. Yes, some will put off buying for 6 months, others will say "OK, I can't wait" and go out and buy Intel or M1.

Also, Apple really now need to show the world that they can scale-up the advantages of the M1 over low-power Intel chips to something that show the same advantages over 10-core CPUs and discrete GPUs with >> 16GB RAM.

...and if there are any significant hardware changes that affect developers, they have to start telling developers about them soon, at which point any secrets will be out of the bag.

The scenario described by DigiTimes is reminiscent of the launch of the new M1 iPad Pro. The new iPad was announced in April but didn't begin shipping until the second half of May. Even then supply continues to remains tight, with some customers having to wait until July.
jon prosser still remains confident for a wwdc announcement
I call BS… why announce these machines at WWDC, then not ship til November, they would be better off announcing them in November with immediate shipping…
It’s not REALLY reminiscent of the M1 iPad Pro launch, though. It’s more like the MacPro launch where it was announced at WWDC and I THINK the first ones delivered in December. So, I could certainly believe that they still make an announcement.

Slightly changed wording of the WWDC hardware question: How many WWDC’s have seen Apple announce hardware AND have it available for immediate delivery/ordering? Adding that stipulation will definitely drop it below 50%.

The Mac Pros and iMac pros were all low-volume specialty devices for video editors and number crunchers.

The 13"/16" (or 14"/16") MacBook Pros are Apple's cash cows. I doubt they're going to Osborne themselves here.

This is from Digitimes and does not correspond to any reliable source. False.

Oh, they may be hard to get for the rest of the year. But this report is false.

They’re going to announce new MBPs this WWDC with regular LED-backlit LCD screens, but will also announce that pre-orders for a mini-LED backlit version will start being taken in September, with shipments in November. 🤷🏻‍♂️

On AppleTrack, Gurman is still showing more accurate than Prosser, though. I THINK that’s due mainly to Prosser having their source “found out” (as Apple was providing the leaker with inaccurate info) and eventually removed.

Given the 16" was last refreshed in November 2019 they have to release something! It's ridiculous to let their flagship MacBook sit untouched like that. Much longer and it will begin growing green fuzz 🤣

Meh. I’ll just wait for more AMD laptops coming out later this year. I’m sure there will be some issues with these first gen Apple MacBook Pros.
There will be some issues with anything Apple releases. Even if it’s not widespread to all devices, some are guaranteed to not be perfect.

I call BS… why announce these machines at WWDC, then not ship til November, they would be better off announcing them in November with immediate shipping…

So to that end I think either:

A: The MBP announced Monday will launch without miniLED with a minor refresh late this year to include miniLED with a $100 price bump

or

B: They will launch without miniLED for faster delivery, but they will have the optional upgrade of miniLED for an extra $100 but those who opt to include miniLED won’t ship until late 2021.
Yep

I’m wondering if that is partially because Gurman is changing his stories slightly on the details. Last I checked, the G4 Cube vs a half-sized Mac Pro (2019) look nothing alike. I’m not saying Prosser is generally more accurate than Gurman, but let’s not turn a blind eye to these “leakers” changing their story and playing it off as if it were in fact the original story. It is deceitful.

I was wondering about this. How many times have they showcased something and then said its 'coming soon' - I'm sure this will be the play they make if they are announced, given supply chain constraints everyone seems to be experiencing.

announce preorders 3+ months out and ship 6 months = out? ok then . . . :(

Paywalled sites aren’t reputable sources. They have a good reason to shove clickbait BS in your face. Don’t believe a word they spew.

The chances of the new MacBook pro’s being announced at WWDC, are as slim as the new MacBook pros themselves.
There's been too many rumors and leaks leading up to a WWDC announcement. Apple would have leaked something to squash those rumors if it wasn't going to happen. They'll announce, but the laptops will either have no mini-LED or mini-LED will be severely constrained through next year.

I would love to be able to order a replacement for this loud, egg frying machine they call a macbook pro 16 that is sitting on my desk as soon as possible, so I've still got my fingers crossed. My only hope if it isn't available soon is that this computer can last another 6 months before the CPU goes dead because I really don't trust that its not taking damage with how hot the enclosure gets all the time.

That said, an argument others have said which is announcing now and shipping next year would destroy sales: What sales? Right now, the only people buying the old MBP16 are ignorant people who don't know they should be waiting, or are people who absolutely need one today for work. I doubt the sales numbers are very high at the moment. Everyone else stopped buying the moment they saw how well the M1 was performing in lower end Macbooks. Anyone who even follows computers at this point has heard of the M1.
