I am pretty confident now at this point that miniLED won’t come with these models, but will likely be an optional upgrade… Apple knows not everyone will want miniLED so what’s the point in having higher price points and long wait times for what many people arn’t even bothered about getting.

And those who want miniLED can get exactly what they want at a higher price tag and longer wait time.
I’m one of those who really wants the Mini-LED display I hope they at least announce it at the event as a bto option and I’m okey with it being postponed to a later date.If they don’t mention anything about it It will be really disappointing for me tbh.

My prediction:

14” - LCD, good availability starting end of June
16” - mini LED, limited availability starting in September

People’s heads exploding starting in 3, 2, 1.
Yeah I think the MBP are going to go the same way as the iPP smaller model with LCD, larger model with miniLED… either that or miniLED being an optional upgrade on both models with longer delivery times.

Either way I am not particularly fussed as guaranteed when everyone gets miniLED MacRumours will report that OLED is coming to the MBP in 2022 😂

In all seriousness, miniLED isn’t as much of a major upgrade in screen tech as what it’s being hyped up to be, yes it’s nice but it’s not a make or break whatsoever.

I would personally prefer to save some £££ and not have it as I don’t really see much benefit, Apple have always nailed their LCD panels and I have always been perfectly happy with them.

There's been too many rumors and leaks leading up to a WWDC announcement. Apple would have leaked something to squash those rumors if it wasn't going to happen. They'll announce, but the laptops will either have no mini-LED or mini-LED will be severely constrained through next year.
I believe this article is that leak that is supposed to squash those rumors. There are just too many platforms these days to accommodate anything more that software at WWDC. Let’s see. It’s still a possibility that there is a hardware release this year. But I feel it’s unlikely.

Not to offend current 16-inch rMBP owners, but it's been two years without any tweaks to a laptop that boils over just by connecting a large monitor to it.
No offense taken, however I bought my 16" last June (one year ago) when Apple did tweak it by adding a better GPU.

Personally, I think Apple already has a backup plan to offer the new 14" and 16" MacBook Pros with the "regular" displays and hold off the mini LED display update until 2022.

It's true that this could be the article designed to temper expectations. But Apple will release redesigned MacBook Pros this year. People's expectations are sky high and they know it, especially with the iMac release. They want to capitalize on the fall season with new Pros.

I'm sure they have a backup plan but likely won't need it. Mini-LED in 16" only.

The 13"/16" (or 14"/16") MacBook Pros are Apple's cash cows. I doubt they're going to Osborne themselves here.
They've already Osborned themselves - they couldn't help it. They announced a 2-year transition a year ago. It's hardly a secret that new "pro" MacBooks, likely to thrash the current Intel models, are coming soon. Anybody who has done an ounce of research, wants a new MBP and can wait is waiting.

(...and Mr Osborne didn't have to cope with internet rumours and leaks back in the day, he could just have kept quiet...)

This is my upgrade year, warranty on my ‘18 is up at the end of this year, it’s starting to show its age. And now that I have grad school to go through, couldn’t been a better timing.

The rumor mill had all kinds of **** to say about the iPhone X and it was widely hyped to be the most rare iPhone to date. But Apple was smarter than that and there was plenty of supply for the iPhone X. I got launch day delivery despite the fact that I was applying for IUP and that took a solid 10mins to get through.

Same! MBP 2018 (i9 throttled model) with AppleCare up in August— perfect timing!

Seems odd that Apple would announce new systems then not start selling them for almost 6 months. That will impact sales and Apple has always been smarter than this. If Apple does not announce new computers next week, I will not be surprised.
Isn't Apple's fiscal year one quarter early. So "first quarter" is in October which puts us already near "third quarter" by the end of Summer. That would make a WWDC announcement reasonable with devices shipping by say August-September?
I'd venture Apple has the devices ready, but manufacturing slowdowns and shortages will probably push deliveries back a month or two.

wait till y'all see the new prices!🤑
Going from “WHY DOES APPLE START AT 8 GIGS?” to “THERE’S NO CONFIGURATION LESS THAN 32 GIGS? WHAT ABOUT PEOPLE THAT DON’T NEED THAT MUCH?”

People that don’t need that much can just get the lower priced systems already on sale.

“But I want the flexibility of the high end one at the same price of the lower one!”

I started out joking about this, and I’m guessing I’m way off. BUT, the more I think about “How could Apple provide EXACTLY what some folks are asking for (HDMI, SD, MAGSAFE) in a way that would still tick those same folks off”… the price thing sticks up as the number one way.

I call BS… why announce these machines at WWDC, then not ship til November, they would be better off announcing them in November with immediate shipping…

Because Apple hasn’t released a 16” MacBook in years and people get impatient.

Well, there was a rumor about an updated intel mac Pro. That could be possible, as a placeholder for those Pro customers (who might want an updated Mac but not have full AppleSilicon workflow of apps). It would also give time for Apple to make a suitable Apple Silicon for the Mac Pro (which would require a lot more RAM and storage than the current solution).
I understand why they 'might' do it, my question was 'how' they would spin it on stage at WWDC. Theyre not about to go up there and say "our higher powered apple silicon isnt ready yet, so for those who cant wait for a new macbook pro, heres this intel one..."

Or they could just not announce it, but do a silent refresh.

So am I right in thinking if the Apple store goes down ahead of the event new hardware is coming?

Looking at history the last time the store went down before WWDC was back in 2017 when they announced new macs, HomePod, iPad etc…

It didn’t go down in 2018 due to no new hardware or in 2019 as although hardware was announced it wasn’t released until December of that year (Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR), and didn’t go down last year as again no new hardware.

So looking at it if the Apple store doesn’t go down we will either get no hardware, or hardware announced but launching much later.

That is true, but I think a unique situation.

When the new Mac Pro was announced, there was no other model. Yes, the Trashcan existed, but absolutely no one should have been buying a 2013 computer in ~2018.

The real issue for the professional/business world is that Apple has no real product roadmap. Announcing the 2019 Mac Pro in advance was frankly an exception because they needed to convince people not to give up entirely.

Apple hasn't released a 17" MBP in even more years, and now that Dell has proven with the XPS 17" that such a screen size can actually fit into a regular 16" housing due to the lack of screen bezels, Apple could do the same. People would get even more impatient :)
