I'm with the 50% that was using the wrong firmware. It was so much easier with the 3GS firmware.

With 3G, it prompts you with the countdowns and you have to time it right. I was getting it into DFU every time but it would still hang on the reboot.

With the 3GS firmware file, it just had me shut my phone off, hold the home button and plug it in and it automatically went into the jailbreak.

I like simple.

Version of redsn0w

I was having the same problem today but all I was doing wrong is that I was using the versión 0.8 of redsn0w but when I tried the version 0.7 it worked perfectly.

I'm using a white iPhone 3G 3.0 on a MacBook

I've been havin the same prob... been drivin me nuts..

will try the unplugging/replug the cable tonight. And v7

this helped me, and i had to do the unplug technique because i am using a mac powerpc. Make sure you see the two attempts to reboot then pull the cord and put it back in.

and redsn0w 0.8 works with software 3.0.1

from the dev team: http://blog.iphone-dev.org/

You can re-use redsn0w v0.8 we released a few weeks ago to jailbreak today’s 3.0.1 update. Just let iTunes update or restore you to official 3.0.1 then run redsn0w. The only “trick” is that when redsn0w asks you to identify the IPSW used, point it at the 3.0 IPSW instead of the 3.0.1 one. After the jailbreak, reinstall ultrasn0w 0.9 if you need the unlock.

The computer I have is a mac powerbook G4

If it helps anyone, I am on Win XP, and after updating to 3.0.1, I had this same problem again.

USB unplug didn't help. The fix was to reboot the PC, as soon as I did that it all worked smoothly.

I just updated to 3.0.1 and was going to report no problems but i went to cydia and installed the 5 icon dock and when it was done i went to select Reload Springboard and now it is stuck in reloading mode with the loading symbol spinning around.

Now what? It wont go away even if i try to shut it off.

EDIT***

Held down power and home button figuring it would go in DFU mode and it rebooted instead. All is good now.

Yes. The "Waiting for reboot" screen was killing me too. I have a 2g iPhone. Running redsn0w 0.8 on my Power PC iBook. I got stuck at "waiting for reboot", but it did say, at first, that it was jailbreaking. But then it would get suck at "waiting for reboot". What I FINALLY found out was all I need to do was just unplug the cable from the phone and then plug it back in. Right after that, the phone screen turned white and everything continued as it should!

Hope this helps!

This guy(?) deserves a medal - I thought I was gonna blow - Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!!

Nice one!

Ya!

I have an ipod touch 2g running 3.0, and I was having many problems trying to jailbreak. first, I needed the ipsw and all of the links I could findto a download were broken. finally, I found it under library-itunes-ipod software updates. next, I was getting the same problem- waiting for reboot. but I finally found that just unplugging and re-plugging it wil start it u. so it doesn't only work for iPhones, it works for ipod touches too.

Iphone 3GS Waiting for reboot

I have two iphones one is 3g and one 3gs. I'm trying to jailbreak the 3GS and i'm getting Waiting for reboot. I tried all kind of stuff but i found out that i was using a firmware for the 3G and not the 3GS. after picking the 3gs everything worked out.

I'm a little late to the game here...

But thanks for the hint about unplugging the cable.

I am just getting around to JB my wife's iPhone 3G.

I used purplera1n for my 3 GS and I really am not smart enough to understand the differences between Geohot and Dev Team's processes, but I have to say purplera1n is MUCH EASIER to use than the Dev Team's tools.

I love the Dev Team, the FREE WORK they provide is invaluable. And they clearly have laid the foundation for others. I just wish using their tools was as easy as purplera1n.

PS-Unlock Opinion

I will totally stick with ultrasn0w for the unlock. I know that works, is easy to use, and apparently doesn't suffer memory leakage issues that the Geohot unlock does.

Again, people much smarter than me understand this stuff. I am a lowly end user, but would like to thank the hacking community, including everyone here at MacRumors for all the help the past year or so since I upgraded to iPhone.

U Rock

Ha ha ha i waited like 45 minuets for that "waiting to reboot" screen to disappear!!! finally i lost all patients and went here! thanks alot!

Thanks for this. I ran through about ten tries before I found this page and now it is finally getting past the waiting for reboot.

Rashiki, you're my new hero. I spent a solid 2 hours on this, reading various forums before I finally found your hint. Worked great. Thanks!

Make sure you have the correct .ispw file. I accidentally had used a 3G file instead of 2G. As soon as I switched to the correct file, it worked like a champ. ;)

Is the file the same for the 3GS as it is the 3G?

Many Thanks rashiki

This method worked fine for me. After restarting the process three times i was finally able to thrash it out..Many thanks!!!
