A comeback? There was there was an a8 2gb version with a laminated display.
Now there will be an update with an a10. What would you have liked apple to do? Release one with an a9? Or now with an a12 that is overkill for this device. Remember that it has to be a budget device for 269 to 329
We had chances to see smaller updates than the ones you'referring to (i.e. iPod Touch). My question is: are they important products for Apple? (i.e. iPod Touch) If yes, why basically forget they existed. If no, why try this revival. Just a question. No critics, just want some other point of view. I happily keep on with my SSD 1TB 7th gen Classic modified with an enormous battery. I would have bought another new Touch if it wasn't forgotten

Next to the low priced iPad mini, I was hoping for apple to release a iPad mini pro of 9 inch with the same design as the 11 inch with an Apple Pencil pairing/charging mechanism, but without the smart connector (too small for a good keyboard), for about $500-600 , with a12 and 120hz display , usb-c and faceid, smaller bezels, and a 326dpi lcd display.

A great high end small tablet in a lower price range, than the current 11 and 12.9 inch pros.

This is the Mini that I would buy in a heartbeat & which I would be happy to pay a premium price for

Two models:
ipad mini that's just the base ipad with the A11 in the current mini chassis: $279
ipad pro mini (or they'll just call it the ipad pro 9-inch): 9 inch screen in a mini frame with face id: $699

The clearance price of a product is the baseline for the launch price of a new product?

I am expecting it to sell for under $200 (read: $199). Smartphones have eaten so much of its market share that I just don’t see a case for it outside of a cheap MP3 player.

A low-volume seller like the mini is on more like a three year update cycle. That’s why...

Wasn’t it about a year or 1.5 ago that it was revealed the mini is actually Apples best selling iPad? As I recall there was no other data regarding why, but a comment from Apple leadership led us to believe Apple thinks it’s not because of its much more convenient size, but because it happened to be the cheapest iPad they made. Following that, they released the new, but bigger, Cheap iPad model, put off upgrading the mini, and dropped its price even further. But a big iPad is not a substitute for the mini. I don’t know what the sales are of the Cheap iPad, but there’s no way that drives of Mini lovers switched to that. It’s a totally different use case. If the Mini is now a low volume seller now, perhaps that’s because any time someone looks it up online, they see it being talked about as being old and abandoned.

Apples leadership took the mini from being the most popular iPad (when it was updated to match the same specs as the flagship model) to the cheapest entry-level model, neglected it, possibly attempted to replace it with an irrelevant model, and let its user base think it was dead. And they decided to put it through each step of this, intentionally. I don’t know if they’re making product plans by pin the tail on the donkey, but this is the same thing they did to the MacBook Air, their most popular computer. ...and the Mac Pro, etc. Gives the impression Apples leadership has no idea what its doing.

The iPod touch (if priced right) is still a great little device to give to kids. Other than that I see no reason for its existence.

I would imagine that they could gain some production efficiencies (i.e. profit) by standardizing on the 9.7" platform and eliminating the mini platform. Most likely a bean counters decision who would completely miss the point and appeal of the mini. I'd guess they fully intended the mini line to die out as customers moved to the cheap 9.7" since, like you mentioned, they assumed the mini's low price was its only appeal and that if given a choice customers would rather have a 9.7"

I don’t see the point of keeping the iPad mini around when the majority of phones (Apple and otherwise) have big screens.

Price
Aspect Ratio
Pencil Support

Why have an XS, and and XS Max?

How many people are actually carrying the Max or Plus-sized phones, which is not even half the size of a mini?

This is an incredibly spot-on analysis

Just because Apple doesn’t upgrade a product for a few years doesn’t mean they’ve abandoned it; that’s just an assumption (not unwarranted!) people make. Many times it simply means Apple doesn’t think the product requires updating; its performance is sufficient for its intended use cases, and keeping costs down is the primary concern.

Like the MacBook Air, the mini was the lowest priced entry to the product line. By 2015, with A8/2GB RAM and an amazing display, Apple had reached a point that the mini 4 had legs. Similarly the MacBook Air didn’t “need” updating, and it sold in the quantities Apple expected for several years unrefreshed.

For what users of the mini require—especially its vertical markets: e.g. point of sale, doctors, aviation, etc.—the mini 4 is still perfectly capable. Does it need updating to get it into 2021/2022? Definitely. Could it have been updated a year or two ago? Sure, Apple could have updated it yearly for that matter, but as a business, Apple leans heavily on cost/benefit analysis. Would updating yearly increase sales? Some, but not nearly enough to make it worth it.

Mavic drone... Simply perfect to have top previsualisation screen and portability

They need to do a better job marketing the iPad Mini to people with smaller hands: women and children. It's really a different experience and great size. It's also great for gaming, reading, and portability. If they shrink the bezel it will be even better. I much prefer it to the chunky iPad and I can't even imagine using the iPad Pro 12.9" other than artwork.

The iPod listed in iOS 12.2 does not appear to have Face ID or Touch ID, which is in line with the current iPod touch.

But coming double expensive right?, good luck selling those...

iPod Touch? What??
Did the Touch ever get Touch ID? I don’t think they’d put FaceID on a new model, but I have a hard time seeing them release an update to anything without some type of biometric.

Sexist.

I take mine running, saves taking a relatively big and much more expensive iPhone 8 Plus which could then get dropped and damaged, or all sweaty or dirty! It’s convenient for me over other MP3 players as I can sync all my iTunes playlists to it :)

I'll be very surprised if put an A9 in it, that's the 6s / SE processor which is just two years from unsupported if memory serves. Would expect the A11, possibly with a die shrink to make it even cheaper, but we'll see. God I hope they didn't go for the A9....
