iPod Touch with cellular will sell like hot cakes.

Why didn’t they think of that before???

I must say, even as an old time Apple follower...
I am very confused by the iPad lineup, release cycles, and the exact generation we are on...

Don’t worry, we’re here for you.

Come March we’ll have an $329 iPad with the A11. And an iPad Pro, with almost the same size, using the A10X for $649.

Then in September we won’t have new iPad Pros because God knows what cycle they’re on.

Meanwhile we’ll have a new iPad mini because surely that’s what the market was craving, a new small tablet.

You’re welcome for this thorough explanation which surely cleared things up.

Are the iPads coming with the new bendable feature?

Apple innovation is so forward thinking that they are bringing the iPod back...
really?

What is next bring back the G5?

I am expecting it to sell for under $200 (read: $199). Smartphones have eaten so much of its market share that I just don’t see a case for it outside of a cheap MP3 player.
I would bet $299 minimum if they make any changes beyond a spec bump. If they just spec bump, maybe, just maybe it'll be $199.
I just feel like for it to be successful in 2019, they're going to have to modernize it a bit more than the current form. Maybe full screen like the XR, without FaceID/TouchID. The appeal of the iPod touch in the past, to me, was always it was at it's core the same screen/experience of the iPhone just not as powerful.

I carry a 6s and mini 2 in my shoulder bag. They are the ideal size for me when on the go. All I want is a substantial performance bump for the mini. It’s hard to imagine anything less than an A10 in a newer model.

But you would have expected that regardless of the clearance price of the SE?

A10 is surely the baseline - especially for media consumption devices. A10 is where HEIF and HEVC support are enabled - imagine Apple launching a new device in 2019 that couldn’t open pictures taken to on a 2016 device without conversion!

Did anybody see this? That would be fantabulous D7D1C35F-AFB2-441D-9A95-BC833244BF1D.jpeg

I think it will be apples $179-199 device, just a 4 inch with an a9 or a10, no other drastic changes.
After that a new iPad mini with an a10 for 259-279 and after that the rumored 10 inch iPad of 329-359(a11?),
They’ ll keep the 10.5 inch iPad Pro around for 549???

If you want an iPod touch with cellular get iPhone SE at Best Buy for $140. :p
[doublepost=1548602946][/doublepost]Looks like Apple will be phasing out the A8 processor this year:

iPad Mini 5 (& iPad 9.7) probably A12
iPod Touch? If updated probably A11...but iPod should be EOL.
In fall update to Apple TV 4K to A12X...Apple TV (4th gen.) with A8 dropped, price reduced on current ATV 4K, one config. offered, (2 for updated model).

...by Q3 2019 A8 no longer made.

Oops... home pod uses A8  never mind o_O:confused::oops:

I had a iPod 6th Generation and it was handy for keeping music on without cluttering up space on my iPhone.

Have since gotten rid of it as I stream a lot of music, rather than storing it on my phone, but if it wasn’t for the iPod Touch 2nd generation I doubt I’d be an iPhone user these days.

So, depending on your stance, situation and finances, I can sort of see why there’s a market, potentially, for a new iPod Touch.

So an Apple Watch cellular with an iPod touch might be a thing?

I think that’s where it’s eventually all going. The heart of the iPhone is on your wrist, and the foldable display never comes out of your pocket unless you need a larger screen, or just mirror to any public display at work, Starbucks, airports, hotel, car, etc. but that’s a few years down the road.

As for using an iPod Touch as the primary devicefor setting up a watch, that’s likely just around the corner. I’ve been of the opinion since the beginning there’s no reason not to allow the watch to pair with any Apple device, with some reasonable limitations, and now that the watch is cellular, there’s really no reason not to — it would be a quick way to boost the customer base to Android and Samsung phone users who have iPads or Macs.

Does an iPod touch even have a place today, given how you can easily buy a second hand older iphone for around that price anyways?

Historically, Apple has been more considerate and accomodating of the standards of the visual arts. When it comes to music appreciation, they’ve chosen convenience over quality. Apple could improve its reputation with musicians and audiophiles—and impress the general fanboi—with a hi-fi iPod and hi-fi audio codecs. Of course, it would have to accommodate wired headphones.

Yes, that would be great, an iPod touch that is big and you’ ll also got to have a phone. Great!
No, I’ d rather have a 6.7 iPhone or a 9 inch iPad Pro . But not a 7 inch iPod touch.

Portable PlayStation, Nintendo, are not so small either. It could be a nice little gaming machine. Please, somebody port all the classics Sega and PS games to it

That *does* look like quite a cool product but it would ruin my use case (exercising) if it got too much bigger... I think I’d prefer it to be built around the 4.7” display of the iPhones 6-8 if it can’t use the same form factor.

I think an Apple Watch with AirPods are a better choice for exercise, than iPod touch.

This would be nice little gaming console

Not as much chatter about the iPad Mini as I expected. I've always loved the Mini. Since it has the same resolution as the large iPad 9.7" you don't miss out on much of anything, IMHO. And it's small enough for some of us to hold like a cellphone and type on the keyboard comfortably. I hold the iPad 11" while in bed in portrait mode, and I can still type on the keyboard, but it's honestly not nearly as comfortable as the Mini. The iPhone Xr is slightly too wide for comfortable one-handed typing, but the iPhone 6, etc. is perfect for one hand typing.

(I realize all of this is pretty specific to the size of my hands, but Apple is(was) the absolutely best at finding universal device sizes that pretty much work for everyone. Was the iPhone Xr designed to be typed on with both hands? Because I think that's the hallmark of a phone that's now larger than what a phone should be. The Xr is also too thick and too heavy, IMHO. Had I done a little more research I would've gone with an X or Xs instead.

To circle back to the iPod, I hope it's more like the Xs than the Xr. But like others are saying, I don't know what's going to differential it from a phone. We have (or have had) what appears to be an "iPad" at 4", 5", 6", 7.9" 9.7" "10.5" 11" and 12.9". I think one phone and one iPad is plenty (if not a little spoiled) since most people also have a laptop and a desktop of some kind as well. It's too many devices to keep coordinated with passwords, etc., if you don't turn over your entire digital existence to Apple.

Certainly the most interesting rumors right now, ones that I hope do have some slice of truth to them. I was in the market for. a new iPad last year, but opted for the regular iPad, but I would have loved an iPad mini, but the hardware was already 3+ years old. I saw a woman at a computer store that was looking at replacing her current iPad mini (it had to be small so it could fit in her bag), but unless it was a really old model, buying a new one probably wouldn't have any advantages.

A new iPod Touch would be interesting, useful for music, children, and also for an inexpensive testing device. Hopefully Apple would at least add Touch ID to them, but we'll see what happens.
