The 15W U processor series definitely takes a nice step forward with Kaby, but holy heck, can we stop nerfing the non-touchbar please? The prices on the 15W and the 28W are about the same. The absurd RAM situation is also a crock s*** that Apple makes even worse on the non-tbMBP. Some of us just want a decent laptop for not an insane price thanks to the gimmick bar.

Ah well, Linux support in Windows is maybe going to save me from Apple's totally derailed Mac lineup.

This assumes that Apple actually cares about their consumers enough to do those things.

Great news - although I'm sure someone will complain they just bought a new one.

Apple really can't win here. Don't refresh enough - complain. Refresh yearly - complain.

This is what happens when you're at the mercy of Intel.

Imagine if they created their own chips for Macs? Then you'd get your updates (at least once a year).

I think this'll be what they tried to make with the 2016 ones, but couldn't. Gurman reported a form fitting battery that didn't make it in time. Lots of air gaps in the current battery. So more battery, and more efficient processors, that also happen to hold turbos longer.

I think this is what they really designed the new chassis around, but Intel delays and the problems with the battery forced them to release something else.

Just in time for Intel to release Cannonlake and Coffee Lake.
Intel Core i5-7260U - release date: Q1 2017
Intel Core i7-7660U - release date: Q1 2017
Intel Core i5-7267U - release date: Q1 2017
Intel Core i5-7287U - release date: Q1 2017
Intel Core i7-7567U - release date: Q1 2017
Intel Core i7-7700HQ - release date: Q1 2017
Intel Core i7-7820HQ - release date: Q1 2017
Intel Core i7-7920HQ - release date: Q1 2017
If Intel releases Cannonlake and Coffee Lake processors in Q2 and Q3 2017, respectively, than it would have accelerated its release cycle from one year to three months.

Point being, how much have I heard people bitching in December that Apple didn't put Kaby Lake processors in the new MBPs. Now, if Apple releases Kaby Lake MBPs in Q2 2017, we hear complaints about them not putting Cannonlake and Coffee Lake processor in them. I guess the concept that Intel staggers the release of different processors in the same generation over three quarters (Q3 2016 through Q1 2017 for Kaby Lake) is a very difficult one to understand.

Foist mediocre & underspec'd machines that don't rise to the level a pro machine - complain.

Charge next year's prices for two-year old spec's - complain....

Man you're a real simpleton. Firstly you can't spell the word 'amateur', which I'm sure you meant in your attempt to be witty, and secondly, if you're worried so much about specs, move over to Windows. We'll see how that one works out for you :)

I think you're right. Between battery, CPU, and graphics, I think the 2016 is going to end up looking like a stinker in the context of what is released this year.

Especially because I think they put pricing on the 2016 so high to protect pricing on this next year's model. Not because the 2016's were worth that.

Another major bummer about the 2016 is that it is marginal on 5k. It has some stuttering in video playback of 5k. I imagine the upgraded graphics will handle it as intended.

I probably can get Apple to take back the 2016 tbmbp 13" I have still, since I've been in ongoing discussions with them about the battery.

However, I need a computer now. So I guess I'll keep this until early / mid next year, sell it and try to recoup as much as possible and then upgrade again.

I'd pay $1999 for a 15" non-TB iGPU-only model with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD.
Unlikely to happen though so I'm probably going to buy another old 15" before they become discontinued.

Since Intel will no longer release quad-core processors with Intel Iris Pro, the laptop would have to have AMD Raven Ridge.

This seems very early to expose future models in OS files if they're not updating them for a while.

Strange.
Is it possible that these will be something like prototypes? Or probably they'll be unveiled in the spring with the iPad updates, I dunno...
