So does Apple have a leg to stand on with this disclaimer on the AppleStore web page:

Apple is not responsible for typographical errors.

I bet everyone who checks this thread out is hitting the refurb.. list more often now- I know I am!!

i wouldnt post on macrumors forum in case some apple spy notices the quirk in their store and then decides to stop it before it ships. just secure the product, then come and tell us aboot this stroke of luck. just my 2 cents.

Oh, man, I wouldn't be able to sleep until I got my hands on that macbook!--not to mention checking my credit card bill obsessively. How many days does it take to die from sleep deprivation again?

Good luck!

remember when on the iTMS they had some kiss CD for like $4 or something really low and they honored it.

I don't think that would cost them that much and regardless, it looked very good.
Only we know about this incident!

Meh, not as much of a loss there, but I still think Apple is going to honor this mistake. It's gotten pretty far through their system (farther than any of the others that tried to snatch up this deal!), so maaaybe!

I wonder if anyone else out in the world also snagged this mistake as well?

just received shipping notice!

i am so excited! is a refurbished product good as new? i mean not new2 but u know what i mean..

refurbs are usually in very good to perfect shape, so you probably won't be able to tell yours from a brand new one. the only difference, usually, is that it comes in a plain brown box instead of the regular package.

Key word usually...I got my first refurb. and it was actually not so much a refurb. The bad news is that it needed refurbishing, but never got done. There were dirty fingerprints all over the screen, computer, dust in the computer, and the defective fan was till making it's noise. The good news is they replaced it no problem with a newly refurbished one-

my guess is my first one was refurb. on a Friday at 5?!?!:D

Since the store is now back up the price is still only $1049. I was looking at this very model before the new ones came out this week, and it was $1299. The new price (although not $109 good) still sounds quite good to me.

I actually picked up on this the other day too. I added one to my cart, and hit the final "submit order" button and it came back that they were out of stock or some such. Oh well. I hope it works out for you though, keep us posted!

And really, do you need the nice box? The plain cardboard still has an :apple: on it.

The only other difference is that the serial number of your computer will be altered to reflect that it's a refurb. My recently purchased MBP came out of the box in pristine condition.

Well, the fancy packaging does increase resale value. This is important to me because I switch up computers so often. But if you're not planning on selling it ever (or at least for a good 3-4 years), then yah, the special packaging isn't important at all.

So are you saying the white box vs. the brown box increases resale?

The packaging is the same inside as far as protecting it so I can't see how someone would say- "OH MY, YOU HAVE THE FULL COLOR BOX!!!! I will go ahead and give you an extra $50 for this Mac!":D

Well, mock if you'd like, but yes, the original/fancy packaging DOES increase resale value - by quite a bit. Check out eBay auctions, or even the marketplace here (it's often a point by sellers to say "original packaging included", and by buyers to ask if the original box is included).

It's for two reasons, I'd say: 1) People still like to feel like they're buying a new machine even if they're buying used. Original packaging helps with this. 2) It suggests (although I know there are some exceptions) that the machine isn't stolen.

3.) suggests a level of care - good condition box = well looked after computer, no box or trashed box = not so well looked after computer

The brown box is *original packaging* sort of!

No, I know it is a thing for people- but it IS weird that I bet it doesn't matter as much for a dishwasher, fridge, stereo, etc. Just computers! Weird, but hey, we love our Macs- huh!:apple:

Ah, yeah. That too! :p

Eh, it's for a lot of electronics, I'd say. Digital cameras (and lenses), gaming consoles... it's too early in the morning for me to think of more, but you get the idea. :p

Wow, looks like someone just missed the "4" in the $1049 when they were typing the price. ;) I hope you get it! How exciting for you...I certainly wish I had seen it too, or that it had come along a few weeks ago when I was forced to purchase a new one after my iBook died. :p Oh well, I still got a good deal...a refreshed (a.k.a. buyer's remorse) $1099 C2D for $899, $50 cheaper than what the refurb price was for the same model.

I would say they would have to honor your price...you purchased the item in good faith at the price they had listed -- how was the customer to know it was a mistake and not just a really good sale? LOL ;)

I missed out on the $109 price, but I did just order one at the newly lowered $1049 price. That is just too good to pass up. I was just at CompUSA yesterday and they had a few of the same model left at $1199, and I almost bought one then.
