Why would you want 'Refurb' RMBP? There are already issues with them and buying one USED is not a smart way to go...Just my two cents I could be wrong...I would never buy USED laptops...!

Oh lord, this is the dumbest thing I've heard today.

Nice $300 savings. That about covers AppleCare for 3 years.

Nah man..been a Apple guy since 2000 so yeah...!

Well refurbished from Apple means new chassis, and assembled with tested to be good parts.

This is the same for iPhones, iPods, Macs, anything from Apple. Apple does not sell used computers.

In fact I've never seen a refurbished Mac that had any cosmetic problems, but I have seen new Macs with dents (my MacBook Pro came with a dent), scratches, etc.

I think you MIS-READ what I wrote..I am not trying to bash USED laptops I am just saying I would never buy used...but yea...You are not too bright yourself it seems from other postings that you made...lol

Maybe you need to re-read what he wrote. He said that you can get "dents and scratches" with NEW Macs, but he has NEVER SEEN a REFURB with a cosmetic issue. So, if you thought his post was support yours...

The bottom line, Apple refurbs are AS GOOD AS NEW. They have been re-serviced, and you are probably not going to be able to tell the difference. This is not like buying a refurb from CowBoom or Ebay where you may find fingerprints, smudges, etc.

That's one of the longest sentences... No, I would be insulting sentences every where by acknowledging that as a sentence. :p

These are new. For all intents and purposes Apple refurbished computer are new. Everyone knows the computers are new, just apparently not you.

You clearly missed my point on dents and scratches.

You don't buy used, we got it. Apple refurbished goods are not used. They are reassembled into new computers, but by law they can't say it's new, so it's refurbished. No, Apple does not want to say remanufactured. That sounds like B-stock.

So let me get this if you buy a refurbished RMBP laptop your saying there won't be any dents or scratches on them?? Like for example where all the ports are to plug in connections...?? Are you saying they will be in MINT MINT condition like its BRAND NEW? For some reason I find this hard to believe...

I don't think it's that refurbished Apple products are as good as new, it's that the new are as good as the refurbished.

Meaning, I've bought about 6 new and 8 or so refurbs in the last couple years and both sets have had their fair share of scratches and scuffs from the factory/refurbishment centres.

I had refurbished Airs with dents and warped bezels and brand new Retinas with chips of aluminum missing, scuffed keys, etc.

Apples QA is faulty in all aspects of production and refurbishment.

They take a new case, the metal part that has the stuff in it, and put the old internals like the ram, ssd, motherboard, etc in the new case. You get no dents because the outside is new. That's how Apple refurbishes everything. I've been and Apple guy sunset 2006 and know this, maybe you should start reading more instead of making false accusations.

You will most likely not get any scratches/cosmetic issues (and in the rare case you do, it'll be small aluminium blemishes, not actual scuffs). Any panels with cosmetic issues will have been replaced, unless the technician missed them. It's just as false to say that they will NOT have any scratches and marks as it is to say they're used machines - whoever's doing the refurbishing is only human and can miss stuff. You *can*, however, return it if you're not happy just as you can a new machine, which negates that risk.

My main issue with them is that, given the number of panels with IR that have been returned, the chances of getting a refurb with image retention will be incredibly high. Just depends if that bothers you. (IMO the LGs are better displays anyway, even with the minor IR).

All the returns I've purchased have been mint, not a single mark. They replace the casing completely. Considering it comes with the new warranty and you can extended it same as new - you have everything to gain by getting an Apple refurb and nothing to lose.

This is direct from Apple - I'm not commenting on third party sites or returbs.

No MAN I am stating what most ppl think but afraid to say...USED and ABUSED is never the way to go...lol

Nah man..been a Apple guy since 2000 so yeah...!

Hey folks, lay off this guy!

Those of us that appreciate the savings from buying refurb and even "used and abused" need people who think like this to provide us with the economic arb. We should encourage this type of thinking!

No MAN I am stating what most ppl think but afraid to say...USED and ABUSED is never the way to go...lol

Yeah… you're the only one thinking that, and you're dead wrong. Try actually educating yourself about a subject before you spout off next time.

They are not used. They are refurbished. There's a difference. You should learn about the refurbishment process.
Apple Certified Refurbished Products are pre-owned Apple products that undergo Apple's stringent refurbishment process prior to being offered for sale. While only some units are returned due to technical issues, all units undergo Apple's stringent quality refurbishment process.

Each Apple Certified Refurbished Product:
  • is fully tested (including full burn-in testing).
  • is refurbished with replacement parts for any defective modules identified in testing.
  • is put through a thorough cleaning process and inspection.
  • is repackaged (including appropriate manuals, cables, new boxes, etc.).
  • includes the operating software originally shipped with the unit and the custom software offered with that system. See each products "Learn More" for more details.
  • is given a new refurbished part number and serial number.
  • is placed into a Final QA inspection prior to being added to sellable refurbished stock.
Refurbishment procedures follow the same basic technical guidelines as Apple's Finished Goods testing procedures.
Apple refurbished products are considered by most to be a very good deal, as they're pretty much like buying a new Mac, except for the box.
  • Apple Certified Refurbished Products are available online from the Apple Refurb Store and are not sold in local Apple stores
  • Educational discounts do not apply to refurb products.
  • Refurb products come with the same warranty as new products, and qualify for AppleCare
  • Refurb products have a changed serial number that identifies them as refurbished
  • Refurb products come with whatever OS version and software they originally shipped with as new
  • Refurb products come with the same items in the box as new products, only the box is a plain one, not the new box.
  • A refurb product could have some cosmetic signs of prior use, but rarely do
  • A refurb Mac may have some cycles on the battery, but not a significant enough amount to affect usable life
  • The refurb store inventory changes frequently, sometimes several times a day, and doesn't have any direct relation to upcoming product releases. What's available in the refurb store is determined by what has been returned to Apple.
  • If you're looking for a particular item, refurb.me can alert you when it becomes available.

Ah, if only that were true…

They are used. It even says in your Apple quote they are pre-owned. That is used. They might have been used 30 seconds before someone decided they did not want it and took it back but it is used. I have bought refurbs myself and am a fan, but they are used.

Yes, they are pre-owned, but unlike a product that is sold as "used", refurbs have gone through the refurbishment process. There is a very distinct and meaningful difference between a product that is simply "used" and a used product that has been refurbished.

I agree. I've bought several refurb's from Apple and they have always looked and operated exactly as new. Refurb iPod Touch, iPad 1, iPad 2, Mac Mini, etc. And Apple gives their refurbs the same full 1 year warranty as new items, and you can add AppleCare as well. There is no risk buying an Apple refurb. Buying anything from eBay, CowBoom, CL, etc. has risk, period, whether new, used, or refurb.

I don't dispute that they are refurbished. As I said I have bought Apple refurbs and I think it is a good deal. You said they are not used and they most definitely are used. Used for one day or 13 days even maybe... but still used.

They will look and operate exactly like new and have the same 1 year warranty as a new product. The only difference is the price is less.

I really don't mind waiting a few months, even until next year, to get a 13" Retina Refurbished. : )

Those should be nice deals. If they do launch at $1699 (I'm hoping it's a $100-200 less), then 10 percent off drops it to $1529 and 15 percent off drops it to $1444.
