Expected.. and many other company’s will follow, unfortunately.

Why "unfortunately"? This is environmental protection.

It's ironic that consumers demand a "universal" power adapter so that they can use any adapter to charge their device, but then demand that their device still come with its own. Isn't that a double standard?

Good.
Love hypocrites.
And I’m sure when Apple removes the charging port in 2021, Samsung will mock them, and quickly follow.
I wouldn’t even be surprised to see Samsung introduce an accessory called “SMag and SMag dual,” magnetic chargers that attach to the back.
woah woah woah slow down there. 2021? If apple didnt scrap their wireless charging mat project i'd mayyybe agree with you, but i also don't think you're wrong on the prediction

anyone, and i mean absolutely everyone dense enough to believe their favored samsung wasn't going to take this route after the headphone jack situation should out their own shame. if humanity cumulatively had enough intelligence to see through their nonsense, samsung should have been mocked relentlessly for making ads that assume people are dumb enough to fall for that.

kudos to the people at samsung figuring out how to maximize profit off this type of model. apple does something unfavorable, make ads about it and create attention. a year later, do the exact same thing and reap the cost savings.

i mean seriously though it's not a big deal. buy an anker 20w usbc brick, i got a twin pack from costco for less than $20 or so. they're the size of a 5w which already makes them much more appealing than the standard offering from apple.

*Pretends to be shocked*

Typical Samsung hypocrisy. Blaming Apple before copying them. Who's the "Apple Sheep" now?!
Since there is significantly more lift to engineer your product to follow apple's lead does that make Samsung a bigger "apple sheep" than people who prefer apple products over android?

I like the idea of chargers not being so pervasive and being interchangeable. It’s environmental. However, the less obnoxious thing for Apple to do is include a $2 charger outside of the box with the purchase of a phone as to not penalize people for buying their phones. It’s still a functional necessity to charge in the wall, omitting the idea that you can charge through a computer or USB-C port in a surge protector/brick.

Ugh, was really not wanting this to become a standard - so the future is you have to buy the charger to be able to use the device your purchasing. Earbuds as well?

Another way to transfer some costs to the buyers for the Mfrs.

You're assuming it's pure profit for Apple to just remove the charging brick. It's not: https://9to5mac.com/2020/10/14/ipho...gins-despite-removing-headphones-and-charger/

Had they kept the charging brick, it's likely the iPhone 12 price would be increased or there would be trade offs in other areas of the phone.

Copying is one of the biggest forms of flattery. But this is one thing that doesn’t need to be copied. Shame on Samsung.

I don't mind Samsung getting rid of it their power adapter as long as they aren't introducing a new product that "requires" a newly introduced power adapter to get maximum utility.

Apple's move was: Introduce MagSafe, introduce a new power adapter to take advantage of faster charging speeds, remove charger from box, require purchase of new charger.

Samsung's move will likely be: remove power adapter from box.

Such an awful take. You don't have to use MagSafe.

And if you did, Apple wanted the fastest charging speed, but 9V/3A would cause too much damage to the battery. So they adopted PD3.0 which allows 9V/2.2A. Any PD3.0 charger will charge MagSafe at the full speed. Otherwise, MagSafe will just run at 5.2V/2.4A.

Just like everything else Apple has done. Remove headphone jack, mock Apple for removing it, remove it in their devices a year later. Remove charger, mock Apple for removing it, remove it in their devices a year later.

Same old Samesung.

A more pathetic and lacking self-awareness company could not be.

Mock and make a big to-do about the headphone jack, then do the same.

Mock and make a big to-do about no power adapter, then follow and do the same. Again?

If a company did this on a sitcom you’d think it’s ridiculous and horrible writing.
Now here we are. Again. In real life.

Does the social media arm of Samsung have any dialogue with the suits above? Ever? Just a little chat once in a while so they don’t look like fools would help maybe.
Let's be real, though. There is a lot of following by all companies in the mobile phone market.

Who had water resistance first? It wasn't Apple. I had a Sony Xperia Z circa 2013 which was water resistant. I took plenty of underwater photos of my kids in the swimming pool while I had that phone. iPhone 7 in 2016 was their first with water resistance.

Who had the first edge-to-edge display with minimized bezels? It wasn't Apple. The Galaxy S8 definitely pre-dated the iPhone X.

What about fingerprint scanners? First on the iPhone was 5s in 2013. Motorola had one as early as 2011.

And mobile payments? Apple Pay was early to the game, showing up in 2014, one year ahead of Samsung - but also 3 years behind Google Wallet.

And Samsung was first with reverse wireless charging, although it seems Apple may be holding that back now in conjunction with further magsafe development/proliferation.

What Apple does have going for it is market dominance and brand cachet. If Apple does something, whether they are first to market or not, other vendors have to sit up and pay attention. If Xiaomi or Huawei do something, not as big of a deal. It's interesting, but not a market mover. If Apple, and to a lesser extent Samsung, does something, everyone takes note.

And Apple does a lot of great innovative things. Lightning charger was a revelation b/c it was non-directional, for example. It seemingly took forever for USB-C to show up.

So we have an analyst and a couple leakers saying it, but where does Apple fall into this?
What if my phone crapped out, and I need to put it in recovery mode?
I am so glad you asked...
So all Apple has to do is enable this wireless recovery mode, include a MagSafe puck in the box, and introduce an accessory to turn wired CarPlay into wireless CarPlay. This accessory‘s already exist, but Apple will just have to make a first party adapter.
And then boom!
Completely wireless iPhone.
I already have an idea of how they might market it as well.
More waterproof, more room for bigger speaker and battery, and more secure. Since there’s no more wire data transfer, there’s no chance of gray key or anything like that getting in your phone.

Great way to market the removal of the otherwise included accessory. "We are doing you a favor by removing something we will bill you extra for at a later time."

Yes, but do you remember the Apple ads
"Water resistance, who makes phone calls underwater?"
"Edge to edge displays only lets your thumb get in the way"
"Fingerprint sensors enable identity theft"
"Phones will never replace wallets"

No? That is because Apple didn't mock Samsung (or Motorola or Google Wallet) before copying them.

Now, remember Samsung bashing FaceID? Camera bump? Missing headphone jack? Bending (before the Galaxy tested as more bendy than iPhone)? Non-removeable batteries?

That would be the difference. Calling something stupid while you scramble to imitate it is a bit different than recognizing a good idea and trying to implement it with your own spin.
