Some of you just don't get business. Nothing is free. The charger included with phones cost money to make. Apple keeps their profit margins pretty consistent so in order to keep pricing the same, the cost to build the new model must equal the cost to build the old model. If they decided to take out the charging brick due to price increases or so that we can have something like a slightly more expensive camera, then what's the problem. Would you rather them include the brick and charge more for the phone or pay less now and buy a brick if/when you need one. Including and paying for something that a lot of people throw away (I've got a ton of wired ear pods that were never touched) is dumb for the environment and its a waste of your money (because its not really free).
They included new technology every year but didn't take way something to make up for it. Not only that, but seems like existing devices that have already been out with existing technology are still being sold for the same price as before but now with less in terms of what the consumers get.

You're assuming it's pure profit for Apple to just remove the charging brick. It's not: https://9to5mac.com/2020/10/14/ipho...gins-despite-removing-headphones-and-charger/

Had they kept the charging brick, it's likely the iPhone 12 price would be increased or there would be trade offs in other areas of the phone.
That would similarly be an assumption as well. On the other hand, taking the SE as an example, the cost stayed the same while you now get less with the purchase.

But is it relevant to rumours about Apple or does it fuel ad impressions half full or not?
Certainly what pretty much direct completion does or doesn't do is relevant. And just like any article or discussion it can also generate revenue, given that without that sort of revenue it would be rather hard to offer what a site like this one does.

No no... It's because not including a power adapter was ridiculous a month ago. Now it's just common sense...

If I was a gambling man, I would have bet a hefty amount of money on this happening the day Apple announced they wouldn't be including chargers with their phones.

This site has no problem creating revenue. And good for them, of course.

They don't care how you see the glass, as long as you are talking about the glass on their website.

And of course the more us vs them debate, the better for the clicks and ad revenue. Too cynical?

Not trying to fight here, genuine question: has Samsung been changing their plug and charger ins and outs with every device release? What feels
So predatory about Apple is they’re constantly changing their stuff so it’s very likely that people don’t have the new stuff and HAVE to buy it anyway. They could have waited two more generations and just standardized with their other product lines and the industry with usb-c on both ends of their cables and the charger. MagSafe options being a special case of course.

to me, Samsung feels like it’s anti consumer and piling on because they’ve been on usb-c for awhile, as far as I know, but it doesn’t feel like a slap across the face like Apple’s move. They should both be offering 1:1 trade ins on new generation chargers and cabling if they’re really so concerned about landfills.
I would agree with you, except for Apple hasn’t changed anything. Apple has added options, but that’s it.
If you bought an iPhone 5 back in 2012, the first iPhone with a lightning cable, it came with a 5 W brick.
You can still use that original lightning cable and that original 5 W brick with your iPhone 12. It still works, just as effectively as it did in 2012.
Apple has just added options, and there always was options. Even with the old 30 pin connector, the iPhones came with a 5 W brick. They also offered a 10 W brick for iPads, but if it was used with an iPhone it would actually charge faster.
So Apple has not changed anything, they have just added options. Now, you could use the 5 W with lightning cable that they shipped from 2012 to 2019, you could use the 10 W brick they used to ship with iPads, you could use a lightning to USB-A or USB-C cable, you can use any brick you want, you can use a third party brick, Lightning cable, or QI wireless charging pad. And, in 2020, apple introduced magsafe, just a new option in a market full of options to charge your phone. It’s not a requirement, it’s just a new option.

Everybody here assuming Samsung is copying Apple. Wrong. This has been on the drawing board for a while now.

Samsung executive meeting:
”ok, now hear me out fellas. If we don’t let the user charge it, it can’t explode in their hands”.
...
”Genius! Put it on the product roadmap.”

Expected.. and many other company’s will follow, unfortunately.
What happens when a company go down the path of something that's just dumb, others realise that they got away with it and jump on the thing that they can do it too. But it's the customer that looses out and no one from a company side give a stuff.

Why "unfortunately"? This is environmental protection.

It's ironic that consumers demand a "universal" power adapter so that they can use any adapter to charge their device, but then demand that their device still come with its own. Isn't that a double standard?
An environmental protection doesn't work when you just pass the buck down to the consumer, it's just about making a company look good.

A certain company mocks Apple... then copies Apple... sounds like Samsung.

Exactly, well written.

No surprise that other will follow this step. The Time of free chargers are start to ending :(

Weren’t Samsung poking fun at Apple with an ad that they still included a charger? Shocking....🙄

When Apple removed the headphone jack not only did they include headphones that would work with the lightning port but they also included an adapter in addition to it all. Now when Apple changes the cable that's included they completely remove a power adapter from being part of the purchase.

Ugh, was really not wanting this to become a standard - so the future is you have to buy the charger to be able to use the device your purchasing. Earbuds as well?

Another way to transfer some costs to the buyers for the Mfrs.

You’re seriously trying to convince us that you don’t have access to even ONE usb port?

For $4 you can buy an adapter. Problem solved.
