Working for Apple over the years, Apple has kept the larger machines for fall holiday season. So I don't see much hardware released due to the iMac, new iPads, airtags, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro 13 and Mac mini have already been released for the year.
The MacBook Air, lower-end 13-inch MacBook Pro, and lower-end Mac mini were announced Nov 10, 2020, so no updates this year so far for these products. And only the smaller iMac got a new release this year.

The 16-inch MacBook Pro had its latest upgrade about one and a half years ago. And the other models are also aging. I suppose Apple will not want its lower-end models to be faster and more powerful than its higher-end products for so long.

And, if Apple intends to ever release an M1X, whatever a beefed-up version of the M1 is called, this is the time. In September, Apple should release the iPhone 13, with the Apple A15, and the corresponding M2 should follow shortly thereafter.

I really won’t be surprised either way. It makes sense to announce to MacBook Pros as developers use them as much, if not more, than just about anyone. MacBook Pros are almost ubiquitous with developers and so Apple is probably eager to get them into their hands. However, WWDC has always been a software-first event, so Apple is just as likely to hold off.

It’s only a few hours away, so we can wait and see.

If the new MacBooks are not going to be announced today, why is Apple making all this fuss about this WWDC? As far as I am concerned, Apple is putting more marketing this year than it did in the previous years. So I expect Apple to announce some big hardware news. As much as software news goes, I cannot imagine something with a huge impact unless Apple plans to merge iPadOS and macOS or something on this ballpark, which I do not see happening. So, I still think it will be a huge hardware release.

It's the same amount of marketing as always. Maybe it just feels like more because the world is starting to return to normal.

yes and no . but now apple not following normal trend release ,unless iphone a14 in the release . 1mx or whatever kinda impossible due workload manufacturer
Just "yes." Developers do use hardware to write their software, and they do write their software for hardware. None of that is in question.

TBH I’m pretty happy about this, if true. If Apple announces the MBP that is going to be a huge chunk of time, at least 20 minutes but probably closer to 30 to talk through processor/display/form factor/etc. Which would then mean the software updates this year are lacking…

New MBP can ship at any point in the year, the upgrades announced here are pretty much all the software features we get for the next year (With some exceptions, like the magic keyboard.)

You guys sure are putting alot of stock in someone that said AirTags were going to come in 2 sizes. lol

For the record, I'm guessing he's right this time since the store is still online.

He said that to trick the fake leakers
And what was his excuse for saying AirTags were coming in 2 sizes?

It’s about the same as last year. And, considering it’s all virtual, the only exposure they’re able to provide is online. Which really isn’t different from the way they did before COVID, really. One thing that may be different is that the number of folks that make good ad views from talking about Apple has very likely increased, but that’s not due to any particular effort by Apple.

I've always assumed the shut down is suspense building theatre - they don't actually need to shut down the website just to update it
Yep, it totally is. I'm sure it grinds their IT departments gears that the marketing team makes them do this all of the time (makes them look inept with their peers) - but, often, you just have to suck it up and let marketing have their way.
So, they tried NOT taking down the store recently. THAT was a disaster. The store came up in bits and pieces, you could put items in your cart, but they’re not there during checkout… no, maybe OTHER companies can do it, but I’m not confident in Apple’s ability to leave the store up during a product release.

Yeah, expected :(

sad :(

So now when is our next slot? Friggin’ Sept/Oct?!! ARGH THE WAIT IS INFURIATING.
you'll probably find Apple will hold an event next month for the new MacBook Pro's, or launch them with no event. If I recall they have done similar before? I could be totally wrong of course though.

I'm interested to see what they do with iPad OS, with that M1 power it has now.

Not Surprised. They'll announce a new homepod or something. Feel like the M1X/M2 won't be til at least the Fall if not end of the Year. Remember everyone the M1 is still very fast for what it is. In before everyone says it's entry level Yes I know that. We'll see in 3 1/2 hours.

Its Gurman vs Lovetodream , not sure who I got on this one , both are heavy hitters and can throw combos in a hurry , Gurman has the weight and volume advantage as he broke the latest M2/M1X rumors , so I tend to go with him for this one as he seems to be on top of It , but Lovetodream counter uppercut which he just threw in this thread might take Gurman down , its a close one , if it was Prosser vs Lovetodream without Gurman prediction , then its an EASY K.O for lovetodream with Prosser splat on the floor.

LETS GO GURMAN KILL THAT DREAMER !!!!

well? did I hype it enough ?
Gurman also said no hardware though....

Not sure if true but wonder if someone like Prosser has a poor source or a “mole” leaking info to him

Apple could perhaps more easily trace back who is leaking false info especially as they are trying to tighten security

on a semi related note as much as people have speculated about large iPad OS changes I haven’t seen any leaks to suggest that. Would love to be wrong as I just got the new pro, but at most the rumors have said slight UI tweaks to notifications and widgets and nothing major
