For professionals who can’t fully transition away from intel yet due to compatibility issues?
This is true but I think Apple will keep the current Intel line up for sale for much longer and start moving 100% with Silicon for the new machines. Adios Intel!

How big are Apple's enterpise sales? This is the only way it makes sense, IT departments already hated having Mac support and just relied on windows virtualization, with that gone it wouldn't surprise me most departments stopped getting new Macs

I suspect this rumour is one planted by Apple to smoke out who and where lovetodream is getting their leaks from.

Keep in mind that this guy's native tongue is Chinese. He probably thought that the news reported by MacRumors was about a redesigned version of the current Apple Silicon Macs.

So when he says "not only for Silicon", he means that a redesign is not coming just for the MacBook Air, MacBook 13" and Mac Mini, but also for other products (iMac is definitely the most likely).

I doubt it. Your explanation doesn't really make sense, even with his first language being Chinese.

I am guessing he is probably getting his info from the supply chain, and not Apple employees.

There was already an article here about someone running 6 monitors on an M1 Mac, so 2-3 shouldn’t be a problem.
That is not hugely relevant for most people, because they are running 3rd party software to achieve that. It's like saying Apple supports an extra monitor if you run Luna. Technically it's true that the Mac is running an extra monitor, but that's hardly a standard configuration. Even Apple's own Sidecar is pushing it.

a 100% chance there will never be a fully redesigned Mac with new intel processors.
Fully agree with you there, why would Apple compromise the design to make room/power/fans for Intel gear? Makes no sense at all.

I can see it being one last Intel machine on a high-end SKU for pros that will need a much longer amount time to transition from x86 due to specialized apps/plugins, or the Apple Silicon processors for the high-end SKUs need more time to cook.
Speed bumps? Possibly. Redesign? Absolutely not.

I'm planning to buy a friend of mine a 16" MacBook Pro as a gift but I don't think buying an Intel one at this juncture is a good buy. I hope that Apple doesn't release any new Intel based Macs and just steams right into ARM on all refreshes. Maybe that's not realistic but I don't wanna purchase a dead end or buy into old technology, I'd rather invest in the future.
I want to be your friend 😂

I'm typing this on an M1 Air and it's lovely. I'm never buying anything with an Intel processor again. If I wanted something that sucks that much I'd buy a Dyson vacuum cleaner.

Then the thermals for the Intel ones will be utter trash. Welcome to throttle city.
Yep, the thermal design of the recent Intel MacBooks are trash, whereas the thermal design of the M1 Macs is excellent. Put the quality thermal design into the Intel machines and they would run a damn sight better than they do. The design is so horrifically bad that one has no choice except to strongly suspect it was a deliberate move by Apple to make them look even worse than they really are compared to the M1.

Have a watch of the vids below, they will blow your mind, Apple did this to the2020 Intel MBA:
1) Mounted the heat sink over the CPU in a way that it doesn't actually touch the CPU, and thus is near on useless, and thus makes the fan spin up at the slightest usage
2) Removed the heat pipe connecting the heat sink to the fan, thus rendering the fan useless. And when it spins up, it stays spinning up, because it isn't actually cooling anything.

And in comparison, the M1 MBA has a massive heat sink that connects to the CPU, and spreads over a huge space including to where the Intel MBA's useless fan used to sit.

I Think still making Intel Mac's makes sense. Not everyone uses Just apple software.
I use Ableton, Unreal Engine zBrush adobe tones of music video and art for my business and a lot of them have issues.

On my Mac book m1 my native instrument plugs don't even install. I have other Macs so my m1 MacBook Air was a extra Mac. but if you do work with multiple programs and plug-ins it could take months or years for everything be proper. my main Mac is a Mac Pro 2019 12core that is will be main Mac for a long time. I think if your making money off you may still buy a Intel Mac to get hard core work done. That being said these m1 mac's are amazing when they run native

Fellow zbrush user here. Have you tried it on the M1 mac? This along with substance painter and marmoset toolbag 4 are the software i am waiting for to transition over. Do you know if it works under rosetta with a tablet?

More likely the thermals will be about the same as they are now for Intel, and overkill for M1.
Why have separate models when you can just make one chunky one to accommodate Intel, and force M1 users put up with the same design?
Apple is all about Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
  • Reduce costs to Apple
  • Reuse the same manufacturing plant
  • Recycle old designs

Imo the current designs were already intended for the AS Macs. Example is the Intel MacBook Air with a patched on fan that is not connected to anything.

Yep, consumer models (MacBook Air and Mac Mini) remain on Apple Silicon while the Pro models more gradually transition. Very smart. It gives pro users another several years of optimal x86 performance and untranslated binary compatibility, and it buys more time for Microsoft to get its ARM release together. Also gives other developers time to rebuild binaries for the new architecture, optimize, test, and deploy.

OK, so my timeline got pushed back a bit, but the rumor is true. It's happening in Q2 2021. Last delay, I promise! FROM AN OFFICIAL SOURCE. (But the iBrick name was already taken by this year's MacBook Air.)

That seems needlessly complicated. It would be interesting, in an anorexic notebook, how they are going to put that much 'stuff', and temperature management (fans, heat sinks), into that thin flat box. And how much of that will cost, on so many levels. I remember the DEC Rainbow, and it was also a dual CPU box. It had other issues that killed it, but it was an interesting box. Who ever saw one.

I'm doubting a dual processor... Yeah... Why would Apple resurrect Rosetta if they were going for the Rub Goldberg angle.
