Well, then why not include it with the craziness next year, where all the other changes would actually justify the inconvenience?

My best guess.. Apple is going to remove the lightning jack all together very soon and push towards a complete unibody design.. there leaking it to us slowly this year the 3.5 jack.. adding a solid state home button... next year add wireless charging as an option.. 2-3 years down the road.. nothing but a couple of speaker and a mic..

AND totally waterproof

Oh right, so I guess Sony are frigin technical geniuses then as they managed to make water proof headphone ports YEARS AGO!!!

If Apple are that inept at technical design, I highly suggest they hire some of Sonys mobile division engineers...

Or basically Apple is talking UTTER BS to give excuses for ditching the headphone jack which is far more likely..

Apple truely really are getting more and more arrogant and treating its customers with more and more contempt as the years role on.

It does take courage and they've done it before by not caving in to removable batteries and removable media. It isn't necessary. Other manufacturers will follow suite soon enough.
You mad?

Not gonna disagree. That stupid lightning port is actually one of the worst inverntions Apple has ever made. The number of corroded cables and ports I've seen thanks to the exposed connections are proof of how terrible the design was.

They can't really get rid of the port since they've created a whole ecosystem around it but ugh.
My nephew has to replace the stupid lighting cable once 1-2 weeks because of the stupid design. It's a smart design for them to make more moolah.

This is exactly the point here, which you don't seem to understand. Getting rid of the headphone jack didn't suddenly make wireless headphones possible. Samsung can do wireless listening just as well as Apple, but now Apple has problems with quality wired headphones and still doesn't have wireless charging. Samsung can do 100% wireless.

headphone choice and wireless charging are 2 pretty big things that other companies clearly do better than Apple and they will be selling points.

HTC dumped the headphone jack too. Wireless charging is a nearly pointless feature...carry around a second device that requires a cable to charge the other. Buy more of those devices to put around the house. And, I've had three of them fail on me.

Essential? Guess Samsung is out engineering them these days too

This just gives Apple apologists more fuel to the fire.
You have to be kidding. This is a great move by Apple. It will make it much easier to add other things in the iPhones ahead. And if you can't use the adaptor if you have to stay where you are, I feel sorry for you. Wireless is the way to go.

So you're telling me he spends between $1-2k a year on lightning cables? Sure.

Did he teach you to say "You mad?" to troll people?

There has got to be over 2000 posts on MR alone (and increasing by the second) and who knows how many thousands of others on other web sites bemoaning the loss of the headphone jack.

To what purpose?

It's been done. It's never coming back ever again. Move on.

You still can't charge your iPhone 7 while listening to musics. So either you have to listen to musics and let the phone battery die out and then charge your phone again. Or you have to listen to musics via the AirPods that will only lasts you for 5 hours (at moderate volume and not at max) before you have to stop the music listening to charge them.

With a 3.5mm minijack. I can listen to musics or whatever forever as i can charge my phone while i listens to musics.

Seems like the iPhone 7 users will be more 'wall huggers' than it ever has been before.

That's EXACTLY why the fools don't get. This is the biggest flaw in the iphone 7 design because playing music ( or video ) with headphones using Apple Music/Spotify/Pandora or whatnot is a drain on the battery. With the new SE I just got, I can easily use my 3.5 and charge it in the same time.

Apple truly EFFED up today in not providing wireless charging for the phone itself to alleviate the singular Lightning port to headphone problem. I don't buy Phil's argument one bit. It's nothing but defensive BS talk. I think he was sweating like a pig for a bit on stage.

When samsung removes the headphone jack, we will welcome them to 2016.

Why you can't afford it? You mad? You obviously don't have a rich uncle. So what he spends this much on cables. I gave the kid 800k as a down payment on his house.

PS Wonder how the Samsung batteries are doing? What, they caught fire? Great engineering. Wonder how long it will take for them to copy Apple's move? Less than 6 months?

Let it fail like the Galaxy S6 without SD.

The problem with all this concept is joining digital with the analog parts of how the sound is produced. I have some audiophile equipment, and althought digital tech is evolving very fast, the analog part of it is not. So, it's very common to buy a new DAC (digital-to-analog) converter when you have a amp + speakers several years old.

Making the whole thing together will force the user adapt to upgrade cycles that only makes sense to the digital part of chain while your speakers/amp were already fine without upgrading.

If they are carrying around wired headphones, then they'll just leave the adapter on the headphones. And, I'm sure that Apple will gladly sell more adapters. The headphone jack won't be coming back? Has Apple ever caved on removable media? Removable battery? Nope. In a couple of years it won't make a difference as the other phone manufacturers will follow suite.

So people that disagree with you are trolls? This may be something that you want to discuss with a therapist....
Yea buddy. I probably own more stocks than everyone on this site combine but yet I trash Apple. Really sounds like I'm getting paid to troll on how crapy this iPhone 7 is. Haha

LOL, yeah, I'm mad and can't afford it...man, grow up.
Ok. You got more Ph.D. than me? You mad?

Nothing implemented in today's throwaway devices - like an iPhone - will last a tenth of that time
I agree. Many trade phones every one to two years anyway. Good move Apple, remove as many moving parts as possible will help with reliability, waterproof, and allow more firmware updates. To do it or not a decision about timing the industry trends, so far Apple has a very good track record of moving just ahead of the industry technology change.

I'm pretty happy with this. Technology needs to advance and Apple got it going. Look at it this way guys, do you still want to carry that CD Player when we can store MP3's on our phones? Apple is God

CD player? Hell, I know someone in my area who uses 8 track tapes to play at home. You got a problem with old school tech? CD players have nothing to do with the lack of the headphone jack. Bad comparison. In fact, that wireless adapter for headphones have existed already for a few years for bluetooth so Apple did NOT get it going nor was it the first.

I remember the days of the cd player and not all cd players are the same. Some are portable and some are built into stereo systems to shake the entire house.

Apple as God? Please. The Jehovah's Witnesses would love to recruit you to evangelize door to door.

Good luck RECHARGING the iphone 7 while using the Lighting EarPods unless you have the money to blow off on the AirPods for $159.
