People baulk at stupid decisions not change. People didn't want to buy an original 1MP camera because the quality was terribly poor. People are playing those old games today because many new games released today are pure casino style games that focus on extracting cash from players instead of giving a truly genuine focus on a fun gameplay experience.

Exactly.

People thought digital cameras were a stupid decision. Tons of other examples. They were wrong, even though they held their opinions with great conviction.

It's not a stupid decision. It is to you, and that's fair enough.

But to other people it's a smart decision and a welcome change.

Believe me on this. Samsung will tear Apple apart on those commercials.

This kind of comercials are the most retarded ones. Samsung through this comercials is tearing apart itself. They are pathetic and don't have originality in making ads if they need to bash another company.

I really dont understand why everyone is complaining about this. I'd like to write down my thoughts in bullet points, as I've thought of a few.

- Whether you like it or not the 3.5mm headphone jack is old and obsolete. If you've ever used a decent pair of wireless headphones you'll understand why. My wireless headphones have the option to have them cabled into a device, only if they run out of batteries. Yes this uses a 3.5mm jack, but Ill just leave the adapter on the end of this cable - in my bag. Really no big deal, and I cant remember if I have EVER used this cable to be honest. With the advances in Bluetooth 4.0, wireless really is better in every single way.

- The lightening port has previously been made available to other manufacturers so that they can also adopt this standard, thereby standardising the charging port for ALL mobile devices. So if you have a lightening port set of headphones then other manufacturers CAN make them work in their own devices without an adapter, but they choose not to. Apples fault? No. Has any other manufacturer done this? No.

- Why is this such a surprise and shock to everyone. These rumours have been rife in the community for a long time now. Apple are a leading innovator and quite frankly I agree that they are being courageous about removing the jack. The apple laptops dont have ethernet jacks - so why the surprise here? Does this annoy / stop people from buying apple laptops? No.

- I watched the whole keynote and I didnt hear them once mention that they 'couldnt make the headphone jack waterproof / water resistant. All they mentioned is that they are running out of space and that this space is better used to advance technologies that we use more - camera / haptic feedback etc.

- I think the nice clean design of the new iphone is great, and I cant wait for the iPhone8 when its rumoured to wireless charging as well - eliminating the use for the lightening port. I'm looking forward to having a device(s) that has just 1 button (power!) or maybe even no buttons at all.

I am by no means an apple fan boy, but I am an IT consultant by trade. This is it I'm afraid, this is how quickly the IT industry moves on. But trust me, we're heading in the right direction.

I get over 20 hours out of my new bluetooth Bose headphones. Lose one of the new air pods that would suck and no running with these. I believe it's a backward step Apple.

A bit off topic, but can I ask what model number are these new bluetooth BOSE headphones?

I have been looking to buy BOSE bluetooth ones for sometime now, and I couldn't find them here in Dubai, nor in US, where I was few weeks ago.

Much appreciate your reply. Thank you.

The S7 and S7 Edge have had no issues with waterproofing (the Active did) - Apple themselves still won't offer warranty for water damage on the iPhone 7, wouldn't that also be a concern regarding it's waterproofing? You can try it in water but if it fails you're not covered.

That's because it hard to enforce the resistant. Was the phone under 1m when it got water in, wasn't it? It'd be a pain for Apple so they just aren't going to bother. I don't blame them.

Someone could take their phone 50m underwater, say it got damaged and they say to Apple, I dropped it in the sink, give me a new one!!

What if they found that the jack was absolutely incompatible with their design plans for the 10th anniversary iPhone and they removed it now to get their customers and the market used to the idea?

Oh so you aren't getting better performance, a better camera, better battery life and more storage then?
Barely mentioned in MacRumors article on this is one of the key benefits of the recovered space from the outdated 3.5mm jackhole - - 2 hours more battery life than the 6s!

iPhones have been using the same trick for years. Just FYI: Google search returns this number of hits for the following two searches:

iPhone exploded - 814,000 results
Samsung Galaxy exploded - 540,000 results

So, don't be too smug about it.

and 1 iPhone exploded can create a hundred thousands articles.

I think the difference with the headphone jack is that there's nothing widely available to replace it.

When the Ethernet port was removed the majority of people had been using WiFi for at least five years. We aren't using something else as well as the headphone jack, we're using the headphone jack!

Lighting isn't an industry standard so it will never be a replacement for the headphone jack which is.

Bluetooth is an industry standard but we haven't been using Bluetooth headphones widely for years. That's the difference.

And likewise people could just believe what Apple say, put the phone in one foot of water and have it die - with no warranty cover from Apple. It works both ways.

Apple could release a new 'phone' without a screen or speakers and the blinkered boys will buy it and defend it blindly just so long as there's an Apple logo on the back. Argument and reason have no place here. So don't get too upset and angry at the irrational counter 'arguments'. It's not their fault. It's a misguided loyalty which isn't always based on reason. So, by all means state facts - yes, there's no headphone jack now. Yes. It looks exactly the same as the 'old' one. Yes it's obviously going to be quicker than it's predecessor but that applies to all phones, etc, etc. It doesn't matter.

It's got the Apple logo on it. Not listening. Not listening. It's got the Apple logo on it! Go away bad people applying logic! I'm buying one, ok?

Ha ha. Ok. Off you go then.

What they meant with courage is that they know many people love that 3.5mm (personally I hate it, have been using wireless for 2 years now) - therefore they know many people will simply not buy the new iPhone because if it. However, it's something they wholeheartedly believe is a step that must be taken, therefore goes ahead and takes it. Courage. A good choice of word, IMO.

"Jason Rhys Thomas is the founder of Custom Cans, which makes and refurbishes upmarket headphones.

What does he make of Apple's move towards wireless headphones with the iPhone 7?

"Going wireless probably is the future.. with a big player like Apple behind it - it will probably push it along a bit quicker," he said on Radio 5 Live.

Are wireless headphones as good?

"For everyday use for most people, they'll be just as good. (90% of iPhone users) For the really high-end stuff, you'll probably end up using the lightning port in the iPhone... because you'll get slightly better quality than wireless. (10% iPhone users)"

honestly though why are people even mad?
They included an adapter for old school headphones

I stream I heart radio 8 hours a day at my desk. I keep my phone plugged in while doing this. That is one example. I do not like Bluetooth headphones. Also, I don't want to have to carry an adapter with me.

People thought digital cameras were a stupid decision because the 1MP quality was rubbish. They were justified.

And those people were wrong because other people loved the first digital cameras, which went on to be an overwhelming success. The technology was great from day one. It improved with time. The idea was brilliant, not stupid.

Same now. SOME people think removing the jack is stupid. Those people are not going to hold back change just because they can't see the value of change. If tech stopped advancing because some people have doubts, we'd still be using slate tablets and chalk.

I know you want to look wise and knowing and powerful, as if your objection to change validates your being. But your objection just makes you look averse to new ideas. There's no merit in that, though I fully respect your right to think as you do.

I pity you and others like you.

If we had started with wireless headphones and then someone introduced a wired set, we'd all see the craziness of having a metre of wire dangling from our ears.

In time, people will look at wired earphones and see them as quaint, flawed, and archaic. That time is now.

People thought digital cameras were a stupid decision because the 1MP quality was rubbish. They were justified.

I spent a decade in the photographic market. It wasn't just the quality that made people say digital was a fad, it was the arrogance of brands who thought things would never change because there was no reason to change.

Kodak and Fujifilm in particular simply couldn't believe digital would ever "catch on". I had conversations with customers who told me I was crazy to think people would take digital pictures and print them at home on their inkjet printer, as I was doing at the time. The mentality was that people were going to keep doing what they were used to, snapping pics and having all of them developed.

I myself didn't see the future of taking more pictures, but printing almost zero, because back then digital storage was expensive. So Apple pulling the plug on the 3.5mm jack is really just another step forward into a new way of doing things. People will complain and then move forward, sometimes kicking and screaming.

They are the QuietComfort35 (QC 35), I guess. The bluetooth version of the in-ear pendant will follow soon.

My last phone before I changed to the very first iPhone was this.

One of the reasons I hated this phone and loved the iPhone was that the iPhone had a headphone jack. The k750i had an adapter which sometimes you forgot to take (on business trips) and then you were out of music.

A headphone jack was one of my purchase decision factors. Removing it sucks.

Meanwhile I would be happy if the latest iPhones support USB 3 syncing already ? With 256 gb USB2 is just too damn slow.

The easy answer, which frankly will make using your iPhone at your desk a more enjoyable experience, is to get a new IPhone dock stand, once they make them with an extra Lightning jack for wired headset use. I use the current version every day at my desk, although I've not used wired headphones in years, so the jack is actually covered up (with a wood veneer wrap, as is the rest of the stand).
