I want to upgrade but I can’t spend a thousand dollars on a machine that can’t block autoplaying videos while I browse and it has to be more durable, I don’t expect it to not bend when someone forcefully does so but I expect it to be able to survive being in a bag and not twisting.

Apple will want the next iteration of the cellular iPad Pro to be 5G capable, and other rumors suggest it will likely be powered by an A14X. This means it will not be released until the second half of 2020, after the iPhone. The update will be substantial, A14X, 5G, MiniLED, ToF cameras, 8GB RAM, and will likely emphasize enhanced AR capabilities. It will be a huge success.

I love my iPad Pro and use the front camera all the time for video chats. I think I've taken maybe five photos with the rear camera since I've had it. I hope this doesn't increase the price.

btw, blind gushing is only saying positive things about Apple, regardless of subject. There's certain members on here who will never say a single negative thing about Apple. They treat them like family.
So put them on ignore. That way you can read the dozens and dozens who post blind hate, no need to clog up your feed with anyone who spoils your world view with pesky facts backed by actual data. If Apple negativity devoid of fact or reason is what you desire, you’ll have no trouble finding it here.

One camera is plenty to “scan” documents and QR codes. Adding the other two cameras just for the sake of adding them without a valid application/function isn’t what they normally do.
They do under Tim Cook's Apple.

Outside of techtuber clickbait, that’s not a thing. It’s best to ignore any YouTube video where the thumbnail is some guy making a dumb face and doing some weird pose with his hands.

I have two bent iPads and 5 non bent iPads. The two bent ones are the new ones. This isn't a YouTube clickbait issue. The issue is real.

As someone that doesn't own an iPad Pro and was holding out on this one, I'm utterly disappointed. I'll still wait because it's now likely too close to launch to buy the current model, but I was hoping for a bigger refresh to coincide with the iPhone overhaul (which also may not be happening). What a letdown.
What were you expecting for the iPad refresh? It seems like a pretty big refresh to me. iPhone too, where have you heard that it may not be happening?

Apple’s sold millions. There was bound to be a couple bad ones, seems you got both of them :(

I've never taken a picture with an iPad Pro. Not even to scan a document. iPhone is easier to hold for that purpose.

Also, glass back? Why? Reverse wireless charging?
I’ve taken dozens (hundreds?) of photos and videos with my iPad Air 2. Very handy display for reviewing the footage. Different strokes, I suppose.

lets be real, who actually uses their ipad camera for anything. like, everyone who has an ipad already has an iphone which has a better camera experience
Not necessarily so. I have an iPhone 7 and an iPad Air 2. I use both for photos/videos, depending on situation, though, mostly the iPhone.

Stop trying to make iPad photography a thing, Apple.
It already is a thing. Many iPad owners love to use them this way, in certain circumstances. No big deal.

I also hope they improve the Smartfolio Keyboard with more angles and maybe a soft backlight that uses very low battery power from the iPad. So you can actually use the keyboard at night too.

Having the same wishes and some more pro features for years I have given up recently and bought and additional Surface Pro 7 at Black Friday. It cost about half of a comparable iPP 12.9 and has all the angles and backlight keyboard you mentioned. It is really sad that Apple develop the IPad in the wrong direction....

Im learning now to just get one when it suits your needs. Apple isn’t very consistent with its releases for anything other than iPhone. Other wise you are waiting forever

What do you mean by developing the iPad in the wrong direction?

These new cameras will be great for people who use their iPads for work. With a high resolution camera and high resolution display those that do CAD work will find it great. Last but not least a high refresh rate screen too..

How about you give us two options:
iPad Pro - without a camera or with a non-protruding one for a completely flat back, reduced price
iPad Karen-on-holidays Edition - with 3 cameras, premium price

Seriously, I never took a photo with my iPad. I'm sure it's useful to have for business or schools but this probably doesn't need to be a quality cam, just one that is capable of resolving QR code or something. Is there really a need for an ultra-wide or portrait lens here?

Can’t wait to...

...not use this.

What a waste.

iPad revenue has increased appreciably from $18.3B in 2018 to $21.3B in 2019.

In the most recent 10K, Apple even makes a specific note about why iPad revenue increased:

"iPad net sales increased during 2019 compared to 2018 due primarily to higher net sales of iPad Pro." Source: 10K

I‘m pretty certain the poster was talking about no one needing the camera, but you launched into an iPad revenue argument that has no indicators of those sales being driven by the camera on the device.

Those are the numbers that are relevant to this discussion

I have a similar setup but with a 7+. Have hesitated to upgrade the phone since it already had dual cameras. Really want to upgrade the iPad Air 2 since it only has 32GB. Was not interested in upgrading the Pros in 2018. Really wanted to like the Air2019, but was annoyed that it used the gen 1 Pencil. Will likely upgrade the iPad to the latest/greatest on release day.

Would be a waste of time trying to make a “Pro” photography/filming device like the iPhone pro. The iPad doesn’t need to follow what the iPhone does. I thought that link was broken when iPadOS came out.

Whilst that is true, there is far more of the opposite on here. People that hate apple regardless of anything they do.
That might be true, but I'd say there are far more people here that love Apple products, but only speak up to voice their frustration at the direction or design choice Apple take on a product, and/or frustration at the cost, and this is certainly the case for me. A lot of us particularly love the older designs, such as my 2015 rMBP, and we are keeping an eye on the latest products for when we need to upgrade, and have been dismayed at the butterfly 2016-19 MBPs, and thus speak up in frustration. Fingers crossed the 16" MBP turns out to be as good as it seems. But there is also dismay at the soldered RAM and SSDs, and the horrendous prices to upgrade RAM and SSDs. It's very frustrating being an Apple fan, and we often speak up to voice this frustration.

This would be perfect. I already have an iPhone 11 Pro and a semi pro DSLR. My phone connects seamlessly with the DSLR so the iPad can do the same. Means I have no need for any camera system on the iPad. Just the screen size and the power of the machine.

Smart for Apple. New iPad and ensure that every case accessory will need to be repurchased.

This is the way.

I would be happier if they had no camera at all on the back of the iPad Pro and instead used the expense saved to include the Apple Pencil. I certainly would not upgrade my current iPad Pro just to get a better rear facing camera that will never take a single photo.

An iPad Pro with updated camera would sell like hotcakes to the videographer crowd. Basically it has all the camera capabilities of the iPhone Pro Max but with a much, much better combo viewfinder / video monitor, built-in. And it would cost 1/5th of other setups with screens of that size, and would be much easier to use. It also even doubles as a video editing machine, that can support multiple overlaid 4K HEVC video’s simultaneously for real-time editing.

the camera array will include the time of flight camera. So one of the lenses will contain the sensor for ToF. Then it’s maybe time to update to two lenses system (tele or macro lens).

I have used the front sensors on the iPone for scanning objects with the capture app and it works but it’s very annoying to turn your display so you can’t see what you are scanning.

a real ToF sensor would be really cool so we could skip the large laser scanners we use today. Also really handy for nicer AR integration.

microsoft Azure Kinnect/Holoense 2 has a 1MP ToF camera and probably Apple will have about the same resolution on the depth sensor.

I wrote a post 12 years ago and it is still valid, we are soon there.
