Same deal here. Requested 11/12, box arrived today. The packing tape thing had me puzzled. I was thinking it was some sort of heavy-duty screen-protector, or maybe something to stop the battery exploding in transit, until I realized it was 7 precut strips of tape stuck together like a post-it note pad. Nice touch.

Mine's 4GB white, BTW. I'm wondering if replacement time will depend on capacity (based on differing availability)?

I don't feel like such an idiot now. I thought the exact same thing when I first opened the box.

Well I shipped my iPod out today. I'm hoping I get an iPod back. I bought it on Craigslist the day the recall was announced. It was $20, but the screen and front cover are cracked. I recon if I don't get a refurb back then I'm not out much, but if I do get one back then I'll get a heck of a deal. What are your guys experience? I'm mainly looking for people that sent damaged ones in.

Mine has been hanging on 'Product replacement pending' for a day and a half now. Not too worried about it, but it seems I will be getting a replacement.

And if I don't, it's probably because the internal serial number didn't match the one on the back plate... and it had a shattered LCD. Any word on mismatched serial numbers? I don't think they'll want to plug them in and check the iTunes screen for the number saying the batteries are known to explode, and that just takes too much time. Not like they can look at the screen and see it. No big deal though, since I traded a freaking Pokemon card for it (it was a Weavile from the Secret Wonders set, RH, to be exact.)

Anyone knows if the iPods sent back by apple will have the Wolfson Sound Chip just like the original ones? As the first gen iPods sound BEAST.

still havent got the box (requested November 13) :(. from SoCal, dont know why it would take this long.

I requested a service box on Nov. 16 and I'm still waiting too. Hopefully it'll get here soon.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrr

Don't worry I have not received my box either. I tried to call Apple and they wont talk to me without apple care protection. I got my conformation November 13th. I better not get left out on this one or I will be pissed.

Aren't they being sent to San Francisco (at least initially)? you would think that a box from Northern California would reach Southern California in a few days, not weeks.

Im mainly worried about a line of the email they sent that reads: To avoid cancellation of this replacement request, you must return the original to Apple within ten (10) business days.

They understand about the delays they have. Just relax and wait patiently. They know when the box was shipped to you so don't worry about being past your ten day window. This is almost as bad as people thinking they'd have to pay $100 if something wasn't defective. These are just standard emails that they send out.

Apple received mine on the 24th, and the status page still says replacement pending.

Anyone else still waiting?

Yes, Apple received ours on the 17th and the replacement is still pending as well. White & 4GB. I figure that it will get here when it does, we were not using it anyhow.

They haven't even collected mine (registered it for replacement on the announcement day)... Feel a bit miffed it's taking this long, seems a bit of an overcompensation when they said they were gonna replace them all (right before xmas), now they're obviously fumbling with staff and not nothing to put any focus on this, which whilst fair enough, seems a bit stupid to have left this till so close to xmas...

Apple received mine on November 16th. It has been pending on the last step ever since.

I've been using my 3DS as an alternative music player for the time being. :(

A few days short of a month, and I still don't have the box... (requested the 13th). Its not like I live out in the boonies, I live right in the middle of Los Angeles!

Its cool though, I will be patient haha

UPDATE: Just checked apple repair order status. Empty Box shipped: December 8. Guess that solves it. :)

From what my marketing and logistics roommate once told me, Apple likes to under promise and over deliver. Haven't had to get anything repaired through Apple to confirm their process or procedure, but he says that Apple is strives to beat its own estimates on repairs and such and hence uses overnight shipping when it comes to repairs.

Despite sending mine Monday and getting confirmation about receiving my nano on Tuesday, nothing on the Apple repair status page about mine shipping or even being approved! Still says "November 15, 2011: Product replacement pending." I really hope they don't disqualify my iPod just because I removed a battery that was swollen and dangerous. Should've taken pictures... :(

Also, good to see we're getting nice and shiny refurbs. The amount of entitlement in the thread with the original story about the nanos was ridiculous and aggravating. How Apple does battery replacements has been pretty well documented for a while: You get a refurb that is nicely polished and almost good as new. They reuse the parts that they can and replace the ones they can't and just stick them in new cases. Simple.

Ha, ha. Apple promised box in 2 biz days. Did not deliver or send an update email. Poorly worded 10-day limit implied I may be SOL unless Nano returned promptly so called Apple and waited 30 minutes on hold to hear that they had run out of boxes and would get me one when they get me one. Box arrived 2 or 3 weeks past their self-imposed 2-day deadline, and return shipping is FedEx ground instead of express, such that I had to make a special trip to FedEx to drop off.

So far, Apple is not living up to their own promises. An update email would have been nice. And the 30 minute hold time - geez, is it always like that?
