Replica Taktik cases on ebay?

true it does seem quality control is lacking. At that price point though and the fact that i actually have a case to use its nothing some epoxy wont fix, but im still expecting some compensation/replacement from the seller before I will be satisfied. I feel the metal version of the knockoff would be the best choice but i was too concerned about signal degradation. The tape over the earpiece does seem to be an issue because it is impermeable and not a pass-through type material such as gore-tex, which is what should be on there. I will perhaps remove it or replace it or else puncture small holes in it.

I just heard back from iphonecase2011 and he assures me a new front panel will be on its way to me after chinese new year. Impressed with his service thus far, and now we shall wait and see if a good replacement part comes through.

Oh just a qik question fro those of you more savvy in ebay that I. With this case arriving damaged and the sellers assurance of a new unit being sent after chinese new year, is there some sort of process or complaint I should register with ebay in case the seller doesnt make good on his promise? or should I just see how it plays out? didnt want to expire on time to deal with it if chinese new year ends and he forgets about me lol.

You can open a case and explain the conditions and close it when your new product arrives. Just be clear that he agreed and be polite. It's a precautionary measure incase anything goes wrong you have it documented that the problem was there from the start. Because if you're out of the protection period eBay won't do anything for you because they can't.

If you paid w/ Paypal, you could contact them and tell them the same. They extended the buyer protection period much longer than eBay. I absolutely believe the seller will make good on his promise. He already shipped my replacement and it should arrive this week. I made sure to ask for a complete case; not just the front piece. You never know when it comes to poor quality control. If the front failed, the odds are the back will fail also. He had no problem shipping me a full case. I'd suggest that you ask for the same...

Thanks for the advice Philly, I requested he send a full case and visually verify that it doesnt suffer from the same problems as the last one. I cited the reason of poor quality control on this batch as the reason I wished to be protected by a full replacement.

one other thing i noticed was the smell of the soft rubber part. Did any of you experience the same thing at all? Does it fade over time? I noticed it had a strong scent of some sort of chemical but not sure what it is or if its something to be concerned about at all.

Can't smell anything on mine, but it's a couple weeks old. Don't remember smelling anything pungent when opening really either. But it's common with fake leather material items, so perhaps it's something similar on the rubber, not sure though

Judging by the difference in the plastic by the camera between these and the real thing I think it's pretty safe to assume the bootleggers got their hands on an early prototype. If you look on kickstarter you can see that earlier in production the cases looked more similar to these.

That's probably safe to assume. And certainly a distinct possibility.

Just looking through what else is available in the way of rugger cases out there, for the price point though, (although the genuine lunatik is probably superior) I don't think you can do much better than this case. The outstanding issue for me and it seems for Philly as well is the strength and durability of the plastic bezels which I'm hoping will be resolved by the seller and if replacement cases are sent then I will consider it fair and even.

Personally I feel the metal version of the knockoff case is perhaps the best/strongest case option available, but due to the fact I do a lot of mountainbiking in rural areas I was too concerned about a possible signal loss making the difference between me being able to make a call and not out there in the woods. The screen works like a dream though I gotta say.

At the end of the day though $125 for the genuine + $25 shipping + import tax/fees (from accounts im hearing on their fb page) approx $30 =$150-$180 Thats a lot of money to have tied up in a case, especially if i cant see it in person to make sure its absolutely perfect for my needs before I get it. Worst case scenario with the knockoff is you lose the $2 for shipping, so its still a viable option to consider financially.

One other issue I have however with my knockoff case is that i clean my cases frequently upon returning home with a quick rubbing alcohol wipe down. I noticed this caused some 'whitish fogging' on the black hard plastic area of the bezels. (the glass cleans up beautifully tho) . Was wondering if anyone else had this issue? Perhaps the plastic they used is of a less stable composition. Any other suggestions to keep the case free of germs etc.?

yeah, the customs fees some guys abroad are having to pay is downright ludicrous.

i purchased a strike case from them for $80 so it didn't sting too badly. hoping it plays nicely with my bodyguardz pure- i'll know soon enough.

ya i liked the idea of a strike with a glass screen protector stuck on perhaps. Def share some pics info be interested to see how the real deal compares.

Im contemplating the possibility of getting the metal version instead. Any one on here who has the metal one for any time please weigh in on its performance regarding signal degradation.

I tried to do some tests at home by fashioning a similar case design from multiple layers of tin foil. When testing your cases reception it is very important to put the phone in 'field test mode' this displays the actual decibel level of the signal.

What I found in my tests so far with the makeshift aluminum case is there doesnt seem to be any significant difference with it on or off. The cell tower signal strength seems to arbitrarily move from -68db to -90db with no difference whether I am standing in one spot or on a call.

I attempted making a call from a concrete basement, from the fist floor and from the top floor of my house in addition to using the gps and wifi and I couldnt seem to find any discernible pattern in cell strength whether the tin foil was on or off.

One thing that did seem to make a noticeable difference though was my chest freezer. I noticed a jump from the -99db to -102db range when the phone was in the freezer without the tin foil case on to -112db to -120db with the tin foil case on. From what I could tell this pattern seemed to be fairly consistent in this scenario.

So any engineer types or people with more experience please weigh in I would love to get a firmer grasp on the truth of the matter regarding metal cases.

Pictures of the authentic case are surfacing and they look exactly the same except for a different cut for the front facing camera.

They might get it right if there's version 2 in the works :D

Btw, anyone come across a replica TAKTIK STRIKE?

I've seen a couple strikes on eBay but I think they're real. Not 100% sure tho. I decided to go for metal one. I'll post photos and full review on both when it comes along with actual decibel readings on the metal case. I had a discussion with an electrical engineer friend of mine and showed him my findings thus far and his reasoning gave me sufficient confidence that the interference of a metal case of this type on the iphone5 would be negligible.

And yes the authentic ones look very similar. I would hope at that price the plastic quality is vastly superior though. Either way, the price point is too high for the real taktik average total cost for anyone outside USA is $180 I might as well buy apple protection at that cost and enjoy the phone naked.

I like to take it out of the case now and then to remind myself how light it actually is haha

Looking forward to your impressions on the metal case. Post pics

I saw some pics of the legit Taktik next to a Fre. Anyone have a Defender they could put the knockoff by? The OB is too bulky and the screen is terrible, but being military I still want good protection.

If you can wait, I would wait till I get the metal version in, that way Ill be abl to compare the signal strength side by side and comment on the integrity of the case. I personally feel that if the metal version works well with the cell phone's signals then it is the superior option for maximum durability and strength. Reading the reviews of the genuine lunatik, Im just not sure its worth the price, I mean most people here in Canada are getting hit with $150 + $65 import tax from UPS. Thats just too much for a phone case to me. Now the knockoff plastic version feels like the plastic they used is a little on the weak side (at least the one I got) but I think metal one may hold the solution for a strong yet inexpensive case.

I used to use the Otterbox defender and I switched because I as well got sick of the screen. I can say that the knockoff version has the nice glass screen and it works flawlessly. I only have the defender for the iphone 3gs but the difference is night and day, even the knockoff version of the taktik is absolutely mint when it comes to screen clarity and response. If you're not getting deployed too soon, Id wait for my review of the metal version and go from there. I should receive it within the next 5-10days and I will post pics and review immediately.

No they don't!...the interior photos of the case construction are obviously different and show far superior construction.

Can't believe people are buying fakes here then complaining about "quality control issues"!...these are made in backyard factories with no quality controls in place, made to tempt suckers like you to buy them only to find they fall apart after a month.

Which reminds me, my 'Rolex' I bought in a Bangkok market place stopped working recently, not what I'd expect from a Rolex! I wonder if I write a letter to:

Quality Control Department
Fake Rolex Company
China.

I will get a refund?

I can wait. I'm in no hurry, I've got 2 years left at this duty station. I'm waiting on the Magpul Bump case to compare anyway. Thanks
