My solution for that would be to stick a clear protector over that part of the back of the phone for heavier field use. But they claim the iphone5 lens now is fairly scratch resistant so it may not be a great issue.

Here's a quick unboxing I did of the TakTik for iphone 4s from iphonecase2011 on ebay. I'll be putting up a full review in the near future.

Initial impressions: I am very impressed with the quality of this case.
On a sidenote, I also ordered an iphone 5 case from seller:hoiyamhk, and the first time I put the case back together, I had an issue with the support pieces for the screws literally falling off (happened in such a way that i was convinced they were glued on to the case front. wasn't until i took a closer look and noticed they were just poorly molded). I did not yet evaluate the structural integrity of this part on my 4s case, but plan to do so eventually, and will include that in the review.

Awesome review bro! Yes I had the same issue as you with the iphone5 version which is why I'm hoping the aluminum version holds the solution.

Question though, is the case in your video plastic or aluminum? It looks silver in the vid.

It's plastic, couldn't find any black plastic cases on ebay from this seller. The 4s case is leagues above the 5 i received. The 5 had the issues with falling apart, electrical tape on speakers, etc.

Just received my replacement case. The odor of the rubber is unbearable. Anyone else experience this smell. It smells like mildew...

----------

If so, anyway other than just letting it sit out for a while to eliminate the smell ?

The real TakTik Extreme has zero smell. Maybe if you sit it outside in the sun for a couple of days might help.
Did you have to return the first case or did you get to keep it for spare parts?

I had the issue with the odor from the rubber part. i made a post about it here about a week ago. What i did was I let it sit on a yogurt container full of baking soda and milk and that definitly helped get rid of some of the smell. Its fine now though after time it seems to fade with time and air exposure. It was pretty worrisome and unbearable for me at first thought too I remember. Probably due to the fact the real one is silicone which is fairly stable and inert and the fake one is probably a rubber compound which has more off-gassing of solvents initially. I had my dad, who is a chemist, smell it and he couldnt detect anything readily that was familiar to him as a toxic smell (formaldehyde, toluene etc.) I also used a carbon monoxide detector on it for sustained period of time to detect any similar molecular gasses to that and no reaction. But like i said the milk and baking soda will help some depending on how long you can leave it in there and it gets a lot better with time.

Baking soda and milk???

How long?

Yes. I received the replacement case and kept the other for parts. He never requested the broken one back...

I left it in overnight but if you can leave it in longer I would imagine longer would be better. However a still better option would be if you are not experiencing the same issue with the previous case, then I would recommend simply using the soft rubber impact truss piece from the old case in the new case. All the parts are interchangeable from case to case.

On or in?

In your post you said on a yogurt cup. Later you refer to leaving it 'in longer.'

I appreciate the help.

Sry on was a typo. Fill the yogurt container full so the rubber impact truss is completely submerged. Any jar or bucket big enough for this purpose will do. I also put a lid on the container once full so I can shake it all up periodically. Basically baking soda is gonna help absorb odors and milk is well known to absorb toxins so I figure between the two you should cut down on whatever is emanating from the case somewhat.

And I don't mean a little yogurt cup I mean one of them big 750ml ones. :)

I put the rubber section in a large ziplock with the milk and baking soda you suggested. It's been in there all day. I plan to take it out tomorrow night. Fingers crossed. If not, I will leave it in a day more. If that doesn't work, I'll just send it back.

Right on. Ya it doesn't take it away completely but it made it a bit more manageable and then as the week wore on it seemed to fade.

I just got iphonecase2011 to send the front and back plate of the aluminum one to see how that works. How are you finding the replacement plastic case ? Is it any better? Any micro cracks developing? I'm finding a lot here and there on the front plate of mine that seem to be appearing as time wears on. The rear plastic plate seems to be holding strong however for now. I epoxied the broken pieces on the front plate btw and then tried to reinforce the whole front screw seats with more epoxy (2 stage epoxy) so far so good except for the new cracks forming.

Im thinking of buying this case...should I get the silicon or aluminium version ?

Both cases have the silicon shock absorber. The only difference is the front and back bezel (aluminum or plastic). If you're getting the iphone 5 case go with the aluminum (from what i've seen the iphone 5 cases are of lower quality). No one here has reviewed an aluminum one yet. If you are getting it for the 4, i say go with the plastic. I love mine.

Wait for my review of the metal case. It just arrived in Canada this morning so I should have it by the end of this week. That way I will be able to say definitively if there's any signal degradation on American networks. Ill be posting pics and decibel readings as soon as it gets here.

Metal knockoff iphone taktik case review

The silver aluminum taktik 5 knockoff case arrived today and here is the review:
-iphone 5 32gb
-fido network in Canada on 3G and wi-fi enabled
-purchased from iphonecase2011 on ebay
-average shipping time seems to be 6-7 days from Hong Kong to Toronto

Upon first seeing the case, the back plate is noticeably metallic, the front plate almost felt like a heavy duty plastic at first as it did not have that metallic 'tink' when you struck it like the read plate did. Others who saw and handled it felt that the front plate was metal right off the bat however so that led me to believe the glue and gorilla glass were dampening the metallic ring on the front plate. Both front and back plate are non-magnetic. They both retain a very cold feeling when left unhandled for any length of time similar to how aluminum feels because it is a good conductor. Upon assembling the case I did notice a metallic ring on both the front and rear plate upon striking it with the allen wrench.

The Construction, weight and strength in this metal case is superior in every way. It feels like it should and feels strong. The quality and the visual appeal of the silver is much greater in real life and is quite striking.

In regards to the effect the metal case has on signal transmition, I conducted several tests for which I will provide photographic evidence. My method was as follows:

I placed the iphone 5 32gb running on the 3g band with wifi enabled on a kitchen counter top. All photos were taken in approx 10second intervals from any change being made to the state of the phone. The phone was never moved from the exact same spot on every photo. Decibel readings are visible on the upper left hand corner of the iphone reflecting the true signal strength at all times. (-130 is bad -50 is best)

My final prognosis is that the aluminum taktik 5 case made no significant or reproducible difference in either 3g cell tower signal strength or wifi signal strength.

Now here are some pictures showing how the case looks.

So which one is better?

Should I get poly or aly?

I don't really dig the silver colour

Wish they had a white one

I feel like the better value and choice is to get the aluminum one. It does come in both black and silver and I'm sure you could always paint it if the color is that crucial. The silver really is nicer in real life tho its quite sharp looking.

The plastic versions of the taktik 5 knockoff case just had too many issues with poor construction. Until those issues have been addressed and substantial proof to that effect has been seen I would spend my money on the metal version. I was getting hairline cracks developing on my plastic case every few days. The aluminum is far far superior in strength and build quality.

I will give updates as I use it over the next few weeks. I would recommend buying from iphonecase2011 as he has been very accommodating with returns and working out agreeable deals in resolving this issue and seems to be trustworthy thus far.

Alright guess ill get the aluminium

And the screws dont strip easily like it did on the plastic ones ?
