It seems like the industry agreed on the term "pro" to work best as an excuse to raise prices. Pro in-ear headphones, seriously? These used to be product improvements for the regular product lineup.
Lots of industries do the same thing. In the food industry companies tout "gourmet ingredients" and in construction equipment / power tools companies use the phrase "industrial grade". With that said, Apple needs some way to identify their highest performance item in each product family (iPhone, iPad, laptop, etc.) without making the other items in the product family sound inferior. I kind of like the consistent "Pro" label to identify the best version of each product category. However, I probably won't get the AirPod Pros because I LOVE my PowerBeats Pro earphones :)

Still rockin' my gen1 airpods. Battery is starting to get a little bad in the left airpod (the one I use the most). I may need to replace them soon, but I like the current design. I'm glad they're offering an in-ear model too though, as that has been a very much requested feature since the airpods came out. That "pro" price tag seems absurd though. I'm glad the current airpods fit my ear well. I even run with them and have no issues with the falling out.

I used my 1st gen for 2 years and they were still ok after 2 years. Maybe half of the battery left, which is definitely enough for normal commuting.

Those 28 years old headphones weren't wireless. Don't compare apples and oranges.

And??? Wireless devices have to be obsolete at a certain number of years??

That's not my point, a 67% increase is my point, I could understand a $10 price increase, not this.
Adding a better form factor (no more Q-Tips) and adding noise reduction/cancellation and a snugger fit sounds like a good upgrade to me. And that awful 67% took the price from being surprisingly cheap to still-competitive. My only concern is that they won’t be available in black.

You're trying to drag me into a debate ..... but I prefer the HD4.50 BTNC .
I have the headphone I like for now, and if I needed a new set of headphone/earphones, then these airpods wouldn't be it.
Just trying to understand your point. It sounds like you’re not in the market for headphones, and the ones you like are over the ear cans. If you love you current headphones, great; you shouldn’t spend $1. But that doesn’t make the new AirPods expensive.

And by the way, if you don’t want to elicit a discussion, you shouldn’t post on a public forum. Just saying.

I knew they wouldn't already replace gen 2. This is just another product to add to the AirPods lineup.

It took Apple over 2 years to introduce the 2nd gen Airpods which were just released in March and now they are going to release a 3rd gen? Thats less that 7 months - I just purchased my 2nd gen 2 months ago..

Noise cancellation would be an awesome feature but I'll hold off and see what Apple includes in the 4th gen

I don’t think these will be “Gen 3”, but a new product line. Personally I don’t want noise cancelling/sealing AirPods, the reason why I like my current ones is that I just drop them in my ears and don’t have to play around with getting a perfect seal.

Pro in name and Pro in price ONLY!! fact!!! And I do mean Fact!!
When artists use them in studios and on live stages in front of thousands of fans, then they can call them Pro!

Kinda a joke product from Apple, I’ll stick to my OG non pro AirPods thanks.

Those mentioning price, it is actually on par with the competition. E.g. Sony WF 1000XM3(direct competitor). You are severely underestimating the cost of good noise cancelling.

True. However, in this case, it isn't totally outrageous. The other quality earphones with ANC are all around the same price point. The Sony equivalent is $230.

The question is how good is the ANC? I've had seevral Bose QC, currently have their latest and it is pretty darn good, better than the Sennheisser Momentums I have had; although the Sennheissers were not bad and probably a bit better at sound reproduction.

My concern is how long will the battery last, both in use and lifespan. I get 17+ hours out my Bose so they do not go dead even on an international flight. And once they lose capacity you will not be able to replace the battery on the Apple units. One thing I liked about a number of my earlier ANC headphones is they all had user replaceable batteries.

Not sure about you guys but absolutely hyped.
I'm one of the rare few that the airpods don't fit. Bought it on launch day but had to begrudgingly sell them as they couldn't stay in my ears.

Guessing they'll keep both versions (Gen 2 and this Pro version) available at the same time. If the batteries could be replaced (even by Apple) I'd be much more open to getting a pair...

I'm sticking within the $50 range for wireless buds. None have ever impressed me with sound quality. If I want some great sounding audio, I'll whip out my Grados.

Glad they're changing the design, though, the one size fits all did not even come close to fitting my one sized ears.

I don’t think I’ll buy AirPods again when my week 1 generation 1 finally kick the bucket.

I love them, but I wish i could change the battery.

I understand that something that small it would be an impossible ask. And that’s fine. I won’t knock that from an environmental perspective, they are so tiny and they do seem to last 3 years at least so far, they aren’t that wasteful at all.

But from a personal finance perspective. I’m going to shift to bulkier over the head wireless headphones that have a serviceable battery so I can keep them running for maybe double that time.

My daughter continuously had wired headphones/buds break on her due to them being in her bag. She moved to wireless over the ear and had the same problem with the connecting wires breaking. She has now had AirPods for nearly year and they continue to work. Amazing device without any "wear/tear" pieces that could break. Battery replacement does stink though.

I literally 10 minutes before this ordered the Airpods 2 wireless charging case. I literally when I read this canceled that order. I need to know what this is before I make a decision.

you can even buy a very good microwave oven.. but I guess that both the alternative options won't let you listen wireless audio with noise cancelling.. good luck

Exactly two different use cases

If these air pod pros have better sound, better battery, noise cancelling they will be worth it for me for the gym. Will use my current air pods for work

I'm a very tall man with big ears and Airpods don't even attempt to cling to my ears. There are, however, very simple and cheap solutions out there for this. For about $2 I got a pair of silicone skins that have an extra vertical bar that press up into my ear and also add a bit of sound isolation and comfort. I can even run with them in. The only *slight* down side is that the covers need to be removed when putting back in the case, but it only takes 1/2 second to put them on or take them off and I just keep the covers and the charging case inside a little zipper case. Not ideal, but also not a hassle in the slightest. It would be nice, if moving forward, Apple allowed for some wiggle room within the charging case.
