Also the marketing is abusrd and dystopian. In a time when we all want to reduce our screen time, you have couples conversing with their eyes through the headset in the marketing material 🤦‍♂️🤢
It's a face hugger...

The problem is a lack of meaningful/useful application development for it. But unfortunately, that won't come without a decent user base. (Circular!)

Apple set the price way too high for the masses and they are suffering for it. Plus it is a Gen-1 product that has some serious issues (weight, battery life) discouraging people from taking a chance on it.

Apple has dramatically shifted the narrative since then
This didn't release as some obscure "play beta test" that "wasn't meant for the masses"

How has Apple dramatically shifted the narrative since then? The original VP was not meant for the "masses" but that doesn't mean that the Vision product line can't represent the beginning of a new era of computing or the future of "spatial computing" as outlined in the press release.

As far as price is concerned, a similar question could've been asked about the original Macintosh in 1984. When compared to the price of Atari and Commodore computers, who in their right mind would even consider buying a Macintosh?

However, not everything is just about the price.
I went Amiga and enjoyed color and multitasking a decade early :)

At this point all they need is one display unit per store and two or three units in stock that will be bought and returned. Maybe some new boxes and accessories for repackaging.

In the meanwhile they will be waiting on someone to come with a great new direction to take this product. Like others pointed out before, Apple Watch used to be a fashion item before it became health oriented. All we need is one of the beta testers to come up with an idea. Direct yours at tcook@apple.com.
I like the idea of making it a personal porn machine. Just include some sort of Apple iVibrator attachment and I think this could be the biggest hit since Deep Throat!

It’s always surprises me that when this type of subject matter arises. There are those that believe that badmouthing or trash and something will cause other people not to buy it. People fail to realize that people buy what they want when they want. These fan sites Funny to read. But falling face mainly because the data and information posted by fans are Useless since they’re just Jump up with hatred Roderick. As for the Apple Vision Pro I think the product is excellent but first generation product it’s over priced. But the proceeding Will be far better I’ll be another product in Apple sign of successful products.

Again people buy what they like. Who cares about what fans site complain about everything they Doesn’t fit their criteria what’s good.

Yes I’m not attacking your comment, that’s completely valid. More of a commentary on the general feeling on the AVP.

Your comment on what form factor was available is also interesting because there is no other competing product to the AVP. In terms of what it does at a very high level.
Yet still there is indifference.

It’s a bit like saying I’m not going to use a mobile phone in the 80s because they don’t fit in my pocket. That’s fine, but people didn’t attack the 80s mobile phone saying it shouldn’t exist!

Just baffling to me right now.
We all knew what the phones were for.

The problem is not the price point. The problem is it does not perform tasks better than a computer or tasks that a computer can not perform at all. It is a problem looking for a solution. It is uncomfortable and, right, it is pricey. It was born dead and it does not make any sense to make a lower priced Vision Pro.

This was one of the most stupid products in Apple's history. Steve Jobs never would have allowed it to ship.

Smart glasses is a different thing (not a computer on your nose but a device with specific but limited functions).

I am worried because Apple makes stupid things and miss obvious game changers like AI (they have recognized being two years behind the competition!).

To me, the best thing about the Vision Pro is how it forced Meta to step up their game in 2024.

Although they have just released an even cheaper Quest 3S - its not as if the 3 is anywhere near 'expensive' for what it now is capable of.

Throughout 2024 meta have been on a mission to match Apple VP features as far as possible and now we have a machine that to all intents and purposes IS indeed better than the VP - certainly in terms of its value proposition.

Multiple free format windows for multitasking, ability to view spatial videos and pictures taken on an iPhone, not to mention a gaming experience far in excess of what the VP gives you at a fraction of the price.

People talk about the VP needing to come down to under £1000 but I think even then it wont be as successful as people think.
A headset that is strapped to one's face is always going to be niche - this will not change. The quest 3 gives you everything in a cheaper lighter package.... and I can certainly see the Q3 outselling the VP by a significant margin.

I don't know why this should come to a surprise to anyone. VR doesn't have a place in daily life for the masses. I fell into that trap with PSVR when it first came out. It's mind blowing for a day, fun for a week, and then you never touch it again. It has too many inconveniences to be useful.
I agree. In hindsight, Apple was far better off sticking with the Project Titan car project and dumping Vision Pro.

The device is basically a Mac/iPhone on your face. While I'm sure the experience is cool, it's just not $3500 +tax cool. Perhaps if it did more...less gimmicky and more practical. Apple has a habit of pushing new features on devices that you can only use with the latest hardware, and it's not uncommon to provide hardware upgrades annually. It makes the Vision a bad investment.
I was not and still am not sold on it personally, but I hope it's not the end of the AVP already - so much R&D money, time and brain juices, what a waste if it just gets tossed out.

The lack of use cases and apps to make the device shine is my main issue, Apple can certainly revise the hardware to make it lighter and cheaper, but we desperately need a reason to use it for it to work.

It feels a lot like Apple's biggest problem is, well, Apple.

I will never understand people's affinity to hate on things they haven't even tried. Just baffles logic.

Once you try it once, it's perfectly fair to hate on it.
I've never tried jumping off a bridge. You're saying I should before I know I'd actually hate it?

Sorry, reality doesn't work like that. You don't have to personally put your hand on the burner to know it's hot.

But your opinion is rather binary. If you don’t value it it’s a turd in your opinion. That’s just ridiculous. Of course you are entitled to your opinion but it’s rather worthless if that is your criteria when judging anything.

A Porsche Taycan is something I can afford but don’t want it therefore it’s a turd.. like really?
But yet again, you have made some assumptions without anything to back them up.
I happen to think this particular product (AVP) offers so little value to me that I would classify it as a turd.
Assuming you understand how I evaluate all products as a result, and then getting upset about it is all on you, I’m afraid.

The tech doesn’t exist to make it small enough to wear a good portion of the day and maintain all day battery life. I know Apple will command a premium price, but 1k should be their target.
Repeat that sentiment for so many of their products. I'd like a small Apple Watch with week long battery life. An iPhone that doesn't need a battery replacement after a few years...

biggest mistake Apple did was ditching the Car project in favor of Vision Pro. It should have been the other way around.

There was no car. There was NEVER going to be a car. The "car team" was somebody's pet project that was NEVER going to turn into an actual product.

There are reasons no tech company has EVER successfully built a car.
