Zuckerberg must have read Snow Crash but ignored the part where the Metaverse was built by independent hackers and coders and then ruined by big corporations moving in, effectively predicting exactly what happened to the actual internet but in 1992. How he thinks his big corporation-controlled Metaverse will be any better is beyond me.

If he really wanted to make the world a better place he would divide up his $60bn cash reserves amongst the 60k employees (giving them all a $1m severence!) and then run the company into the ground by himself before running off into the sunset.

I thought of something really cool Facebook could do. So, if I am friends with someone and they post something at 12:00 PM I see that post. Then if a business I follow posts something at 12:05 I see that post next. And if my mom posts something at 12:10 then I see that post. Next up, and this is where things get super complex… if a news source I follow posts something at 12:15 I see that post after my mom’s. I call it: Choosing How to Read Only News Or Lame Opining Geeks In Calculated Applied Logic. Or, CHRONOLOGICAL for short. With no algorithms there would be no controversy. Well, it might also help not to try stealing as much info as possible.

Marketing 101: When your brand develops too much of a stink because of the horrible things your company does, just rename the brand. That makes it all better. People won't associate your product with your past misdeeds.

Examples: Philip Morris→Altria, Comcast→xfinity, Smith & Wesson→American Outdoor Brands Corporation

And, unfortunately, with most Americans being as ignorant as they are… It actually works!!!!

The most recent Sway podcast has an extremely interesting discussion between Kara Swisher and Walt Mossberg and the comments made regarding Mark Zuckerberg are condemnatory.

UK's Royal Mail Group plc -> Consignia

I would have gone with ‘cesspool’ but I don’t think that’s the image dead eyes was going for.

Facebook missed the boat on saving it's reputation. No name change or rebranding will help repair the **** it's done to the society as a whole.

like how google became alphabet but everyone still calls it google

good luck

It’s like that time John Wilkes Booth tried to change his name to Larry Finkelstein.

Facebook is reportedly planning to change its name to better reflect Mark Zuckerberg's goal of creating a "metaverse," reports The Verge, claiming the change could come as soon as next week.

From the report:
Facebook's CEO Mark Zuckerberg plans to shift people's mindset around Facebook, no longer limiting it to just a social media company but to "being a metaverse company." The naming change also comes amid heightened scrutiny on Facebook following a whistleblower sharing several internal documents from the social media company.
As for what Facebook's new name and brand could be, it's not entirely clear. The Verge says that even some of Facebook's own high-ranking leadership executives are not aware of the name, but speculates it could have something to do with "Horizon."
Facebook's forthcoming change draws stark similarities to 2015 when Google restructured to be under "Alphabet," its holding company that includes Google itself and its subsidiaries.

NO, Former Guy, you may not spew your venomous vitriol on MetaVerse, either.
How’re those 6 Jan 2021 documents looking?

I feel so hipsterish. I locked my account down, turned it invisible, and stopped using it years ago, way before it was cool!

On a more serious note, I agree with John Gruber that Facebook is basically an ongoing criminal enterprise that is actively undermining our ability to maintain a civil society or even a shared sense of reality and it should be ripped out by the roots and set on fire.

They know that they are hurting people and wrecking minds and they don't care, because $$$.

Facebook is still tracking you and using your data if you haven’t deleted your profile completely.

Am I the only one stupid enough to not know what a "metaverse" is?
Not hard to understand: Me - or "I", Taver - or TAVR (Transcatheter aortic valve replacement), and SE - Southeast. Or put more simply, obviously Zuck's intent: "I'm going to North Carolina to have my heart valve replaced."

I know. They're also still tracking you and using your data indirectly if someone who knows you has an account. I read once that they even built up demographic data (some of it by inference) for people who have never had a Facebook account by data mining all their family and acquaintances.

Its like all those apps are designed to encourage people to login and then trap them in the metaverse where computer generated reality is better than real life, but the computer needs people to feed it, and the people using it don't realise they are the product.

Its almost like some kind of Matrix???
