How many of you still have a Facebook account despite the negative comments?
I see two main reasons:
1) Facebook was incredible at making everyone think that it's a fundamental tool for networking and for maintaining human relations. The vast majority of people think they need FB (or IG) for some sort of professional reason, even if what they put on it is everything but professional.
2) Facebook is indeed a good aggregator. Appointments, groups, birthday reminders, etc. are all part of the FB ecosystem. I don't use FB much (I am more of an IG user), but it takes me a second to know what's happening around me in terms of events or stuff organized by my friends and/or groups.

It's logical that Facebook would change the name of the parent company (like Google did with Alphabet). It didn't make sense to me that the parent company of WhatsApp, Oculus, Instagram and Facebook was.... Facebook.

It doesn't help the others in any way to always have the Facebook name attached.

I just wonder what Mark's vision is, like the money's definitely not an issue for him and in the same boat I'd probably say to heck with the company and retire at this point... Not as bad as the octogenarians in government who could be spending time with family instead of gripping to power at least.

A turd by any other name is still a turd.
At 0644Hrs after three posts, this thread officially became redundant.

You hit the nail on the head. FB is a cancer on humanity. A lot of people have differing reasons why. Real world friends of mine of opposing political stripes think I left FB because I agree with their political reasoning as to why FB is evil. Which is a great way to explain WHY I think FB is evil.

The way information is presented amplifies the worst in all of us. The whole premise is a feedback loop so that what you see is what FB thinks you want to see so it can sell more advertising. It's basically a giant echo chamber. The absolute antithesis of independent thought and critical thinking.

I don't believe it's hyperbole to put FB in the same category as tobacco or alcohol for the societal harm it produces. While it's hard for people to see beyond their addictions, whether it be to money, or the dopamine dump that comes from collecting likes or responses, eventually enough people will see and smell rot for what it is. Rot.

The name change isn't going to help it. I think Zuck should hope it pumps the stock a bit, and then he should dump it all and go do something productive with what's left of his life.

The oil barons and trust moguls of the gilded age eventually saw how history was going to judge them....

Sounds similar to when Comcast changed its name to Xfinity because it had landed at or near the bottom of every customer satisfaction survey, including "most hated companies in America" (Forbes or Fortune, I get them mixed up) and at the top of every customer complaint list. CEO: "Comcast? Never heard of it."
More like they realize that "Facebook" carries mostly negative reaction...so they're trying to switch names. Kind of like how Amway changed their name to "Alticor" or Comcast to "Xfinity".
Amway is still Amway, only the parent company changed names.

Its not similar, its the exact opposite. Comcast changed the name of the product, not the name of the parent company. Facebook does change the name of the parent company, while not changing the name the product.

My wish for this Christmas is that all people on this planet sign out of facebook and all its apps, and never use them again. And I really want to see that criminal Zucker behind the counter on a McDonalds, if two gifts are possible...
