It was implied when Apple says the false positive rate for Touch ID is about 1 in 50,000 and for Face ID it is 1 in 1,000,000. Turned out it was just false marketing statistics.
It clearly was not implied. They continued (and continue) selling and marketing devices with Touch ID. You appear to be conflating “b is more secure than a” with “a is insecure”. This is simply a logical error on your part.

I prefer touchID than face ID. I have got more used to it, but it's still annoying to have to physically look at your phone. There are many times I don't want to do this. Grabbing it to mute the music. Using my phone in bed when the pillow has smooshed it into a marshmallow shape. Enable apple maps while driving.

CarPlay. Touching your phone in many jurisdictions will get you a ticket. Don’t argue one irresponsible action is better than another irresponsible action.

Thanks, dad. So does use your phone in non-aeroplane during a plane takeoff despite no evidence it does anything. Not all of us have a post-2012 car with all the trimmings with car play. I don't see how opening apps on your phone is any different from opening maps on car play, or turning the AC on or turning off the radio.

Not discussing aircraft. Referring to the traffic laws in many places, regardless of your beliefs of distracted driving. Not the first time this discussion has surfaced.

That's why the iPhone 12 need to let go of front-facing camera and it's something that the people don't always use every day and Apple can sell a lightning to camera module for the customer who occasionally need to make facetime call.

It makes sense that ultrasonic fingerprint is coming to the iPhone 12. Therefore, Apple is fixing the screen design without a notch(faceID) on iPhone 12.

I understand why public would prefer TouchID over Face recognition, but from my own experience, the later is working substantially better for me - I hope they keep it. I get sweaty hands really fast and despite wiping, TouchID on iPhone 7 worked so seldom I disabled it at one point, as it as faster to type those 4 digits then re-checking the finger randomly most of the time...

In times of Corona FaceID is just a single point of failure.
- Constantly remove/touch your mask is a bad idea
- Using PIN number for Apple Pay is cumbersome, you have to disable FaceID completely or wait until it fails
- Using those hacks available on the internet to trick FaceID breaks the security

There should be enough expertise and prototypes available at Apple to integrate a fingerprint sensor into the iPhone 12. TouchID integrated into the display will be a major selling point.

Any kind of distraction while driving should be avoided. Lose phones that people fiddle around with are the worst. And yes, I have been in an accident with one of the phone while driving idiots already and many continue to be victims of distracted drivers every day.

Edit: sorry for the OT.

In an era of face masks and coronas, this is needed. Dearly.
My wife is continually frustrated when Face ID doesn't work due to her mask. My iPhone SE is already unlocked by the time I wave it across the NFC terminal :)

Whether or not you have Face ID or a finger print reader is irrelevant. If you have to take your mask off to use your phone or use your finger print, your phone is getting contaminated. If your phone is contaminated and you are putting it in your pockets or up to your face, you are contaminating other places ... including your face. I do not use my phone in public anymore.

I don't take off my mask, I enter the passcode with my gloves on. (glad the screen recognizes touch through the gloves). You are contaminated anyway, so I don't worry about putting my phone in my pocket. When I get home, the phone goes into "phone soap".

I do. Using a touch screen requires a lot more focus and attention than turning a physical knob or pressing a physical button which can be done pretty much without looking.

Sorry, I wasn’t clear it seems. I was thinking more of gloves in order to protect yourself from germs and the like. Similar to the mask, when interacting with others in times of the pandemic that’s also important.
Just wash hands frequently and avoid touching faces.

I have owned the S10 (which had horrible under screen reading) and now the S20 ultra, it has improved over the S10 but I still miss Face ID all the time. The finger print reader works but if your hands are wet, greesey, dirty than you can kiss getting into your phone with the reader goodbye. Face ID is just so easy and practically, I wish Samsung would of kept the iris scanner. I hope Apple doesn't move away from Face ID to a finger print reader.

No need to worry there. Apple would not abandon FaceID, unless it was for something else they consider superior. TouchID's return to the flagship models would really only be as a supplement.

Face ID is an epic Apple Fail like the non existing charging mat, the Mighty Mouse that you can't use while charging and handwriting recognition on the Newton Message Pad.

Steve would have never allowed this.

Get rid of Face ID and the notch, size down that phone to 5 inches, under display Touch ID, OLED screen, flush camera, and you will break all sales records of any phone previously offered.

Just sayin.......

don't wanna be way off topic here.. but I would kill for that wallpaper 🤤 ..if anyone can help would be greatly appreciated! thanks
